To think the 'Disrespect NoBody' ad campaign is horribly sexist?

Not sure if this has already been discussed but has anybody else seen the 'Disrespect NoBody' TV adverts that are supposedly raising awareness for healthy relationships and domestic violence?

Every single scenario in the advert is targeted at men abusing women whether it be physically or emotionally. Y'know because men are never victims?

Now women who want abortions must be virginal and innocent to be granted access to a termination, they are the only ones who deserve that choice the rest of the slags must carry the unwanted pregnancy full term. Any fucking cock sucking MRA body knows that!

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 03/03/2016 12:56

Don't be like

SunsetSinger · 03/03/2016 12:59

Honestly, I don't think there is any point in engaging with these people. They are not going to be persuaded by rational argument.

OhShutUpThomas · 03/03/2016 12:59

No Posie - women are allowed a choice in abortion - but only if it's the same as the man's.

Does it work the other way zig? Should men be able to force women to abort if the man doesn't want a baby?

KERALA1 · 03/03/2016 13:00

This thread is utterly mental

Love the what about the men thing. Exactly

Isabellestreight I mean to say that they have to cater it for what will cause the least damage and give the most support.... so sadly it cannot depict nuances or domestic violence against men really... because of the reason I expressed and also because most domestic violence does happen to women and is potentially life threatening. To be honest I think there should be a lot more info in schools about what constitutes a healthy relationship for men and women.
Don't think I don't massively care about this issue because both my partner and I have been victims of DV in the past. Me from a man and him from a woman. The domestic violence against me was actual physical violence whereas I actually think it was more difficult for him to identify the DV against him as it was not physically violent but took the route of cutting off from friends, stalking, emotional blackmail, destruction of property, harassment via any means possible...... (he was taken completely seriously by the police who were great when he went to them)
Im not saying it wasn't also difficult for me to accept that I was being abused but I guess I was forced to much faster because of my obvious physical injuries and the threat to my life.
But how do you depict non physical abuse in a short advert? And how many people would it reach? and how many would misinterpret it as i detailed in my last post? I worry about this because many women were in the situation I was in where they are very young girls with older men who convince them that they are just emotionally unbalanced and they are responsible for the violence against themselves, its because they answer back its because they don't do this or they do do this etc etc
They have to cater the adverts towards women mostly because they are aimed at reaching women whos lives are in danger. As I said to address other forms of abuse they need to start much earlier.... in my view with children in school. Teaching them in detail what constitutes a healthy, respectful relationship. Teaching young men about healthy relationships and how to navigate ad talk about emotional abuse in school would help massively more. These adverts aren't aimed at men because it would be extremely difficult to aim an advert at the men it needed to reach. You've got to think about that when making an advert not just about how to be PC but who its actually going to reach and how it could help them. Like I said you could be putting women more at risk by including shots of women shouting at men etc and it wouldn't actually reach the men affected anyway. Many men don't come forward about DV against them because they feel like it just doesn't happen because they are supposed to be strong and it would be a humiliation.... showing images of a women humiliating a man is probably only going to make that feeling worse. It needs a much more detailed nuanced approach to explain how these things can happen and men can become trapped in these situations and how its not weakness but something that can happen to anyone.

Why can't breast cancer charities fun campaigns for men? #sexistbastards

Yy slugs.

DaphneWhitethigh · 03/03/2016 14:27

Already do Posie
Breast cancer kills more men than testicular cancer.

DaphneWhitethigh · 03/03/2016 14:33

I realise that that wasn't your point btw, but it's my favourite Hmm stat and I can never resist the urge to share it.

SpeakNoWords · 03/03/2016 14:37

It seems a very close call, as cancer research UKs website had 73 deaths for male breast cancer and 63 for testicular cancer from 2012/2013 stats.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2016 14:37

What's the source of the stat daphne? That's an interesting one.

DaphneWhitethigh · 03/03/2016 14:38

I didn't say it was a lot more...

SpeakNoWords · 03/03/2016 14:39

I know, I just thought it would be interesting for people to know the numbers. It's not like is twice as many deaths.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2016 14:40

There is a big difference in the age demographic though-most testicular cancer sufferers are young men while most male breast cancer sufferers are over 70.

pastmyduedate0208 · 03/03/2016 14:44

In the UK 11,643 women died of Breast cancer last year compard to 75 men. You see why it's considered a "womans problem" how sexist of women.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 03/03/2016 14:48

I do know that % wise, a man diagnosed with breast cancer is waaay more likely to die than a woman diagnosed with breast cancer. Interesting fact for those who like interesting facts.

But yeah, the 11,643 : 75 ratio.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 03/03/2016 14:49

Another interesting fact for you, breast cancer in men is correlational with use of anabolic steroids.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 03/03/2016 14:54

I wonder (though i realise anabolic steroids and synthetic testosterone arent the same) what future rates will be in trans-men? Already predisposed as born females, does the testosterone have the same effect as steroids and increase the risk?
Who'll (of course) be counted as men and increase the stats of men who have breast cancer...

eatingworms · 03/03/2016 16:59

You are verbally abusing people on this thread Zig in order to prove men aren't abusive.
Umm, it's not working.

PosieReturningParker · 03/03/2016 17:12

Very interested to hear what Zig is doing to fund and help start men's refuges.

OhShutUpThomas · 03/03/2016 18:09

So men have to make their own refuges to help other men? Should over 70% of the police force refuse to help women? Grow some empathy.

No Posie, he's already implied that we should be.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/03/2016 18:17

It's very telling how outraged this poster is by the suggestion that men might organise and work at refuges. Women's work, is it?
