There has been a proliferation of people in super dry outerwear. Everywhere you look the the logo emblazoned on the back right shoulder. I saw a whole family the other day branded with "super dry" on their puffa jackets. Why????? Am I an old fogey or is it a bit vulgar?

My teen boys love it. It's good quality which I like. My only objection is how dark the shop is, tricky for my middle aged eyes

That's so funny goodnight !
I mean vulgar as in crass or gaudy, not sexually vulgar. Grin I didn't mean the words "super dry" were a connotation .... But now I'm going to pmsl walking behind a superdry jacket!

I'm sure OP means vulgar in the sense of lacking good taste rather than obscene.

I have been informed by a reliable source (my teenagers) that Superdry is not 'in' anymore and 'no one wears it' Grin

Yeah it's vulgar just like Gap hoody's or Nike t-shirts. I thought it was more a small town thing. I didn't know about super dry until I visited a friend in Wales and her dd 'had' to have the cot to fit in with her friends HmmConfused

"Vulgar" just makes you sound like a snob.

maid that made my evening! I mean vulgar as in crass or gaudy to have a logo on the shoulder, not sexually vulgar. I didn't imagine super dry as a connotation for being super dry or whatever (?) But I'll not look at another super dry wearer with a straight face now Grin

I always just think of continence pads when I see someone walking around with Superdry written all over them.

I strongly suspect I am not in the target demographic.

It's mainly worn by middle aged men who wish to be in their 20s. The youngsters have cottoned on to this and no longer wear it.

I have no idea if it's vulgar or not, but I know it's ironic. I went in because they had rather a nice looking coat and I want something fully waterproof for dog walking - but "none of our stuff is waterproof, only showerproof". Why call it SuperDry then?! Wink

Good to know, I would have worried about your sanity otherwise ... I don't find it vulgar (in either sense) Grin

DD has a festival super dry coat. It has a lovely lining, it is warm, water proof and has been kicked around the floor of a secondary school for months and still looks in good condition.

YANBU. I agree OP. People just buy it cos other people buy it and they think it makes them look cool. Which obvs is what most teens do, but when adults do it it makes me cringe a bit.

Vulgar :o

I love Superdry because it's long, long bodies and arms for my gibbon-like body. I avoid the logo stuff and snap up the vests, maxi dresses and cardies. I also have joggers. They are extremely well-made and last ages.

I'm mid-40s so I think I may have helped to make it uncool. I've noticed friend's 13yo DD no longer wears it!

I've just checked and dds only has one logo on the arm which reads super dry nautical so it might not be as over the top as the others.

The only people I know that wear SuperDry are my DS (12) and his mates - they all have the rucksack, not the clothes, and ageing male work colleagues 50+ in a kind of desperate menopausal kicking and screaming "I am yoof ful" stylee.

I have never understood why the logo is on the back and what's with the Japanese thing when they are from Cheltenham.

Lots of people wear them round here but my teens have rejected the brand entirely, actually coats entirely. Hmm

saucyjack I love it, perhaps Superdry is a badge of honour.... Proudly displaying one's continence credentials.... It all becomes clear now.

Ilostit... would you ask them what the trendy teen about town is wearing this season? I'm fascinated.

DS1 told me I must never use the word trendy Grin.

According to some internet dictionary, vulgar means:
adjective
1.characterized by ignorance of or lack of good breeding or taste:vulgar ostentation.
2.indecent; obscene; lewd:a vulgar work; a vulgar gesture.
3.crude; coarse; unrefined:a vulgar peasant.
4.of, relating to, or constituting the ordinary people in a society:the vulgar masses.
5.current; popular; common:a vulgar success; vulgar beliefs.
6.spoken by, or being in the language spoken by, the people generally; vernacular:vulgar tongue.
7.lacking in distinction, aesthetic value, or charm; banal; ordinary:
a vulgar painting.

I suppose that Superdry is definitely number 5, and to the OP, number 7. I think it is very twee though to call a inoffensive clothing brand vulgar.

SuperDry aren't any worse at this sort of thing than say Jack Wills, Hollister or the godawful Bench.
