Bil has given himself whiplash on purpose

tartenjane · 21/02/2016 21:45

Found this out yesterday and still not sure what I should do.

Bil's car failed the mot, so he waited until someone was tailgating him slammed on the breaks and claimed a badger ran out into the road. This was fake. But the car driving too close was real and it went into him causing damage. It will cost too much to fix his car, so he's hoping to get the insurance payout for the car and a whiplash.

Its more really a wwyd?

You can report him to the ifb cheat line. Helpful if you have his registration. You can do so anonymously. If you don't his claim will be paid.

bakeoffcake · 21/02/2016 22:11

I've never seen a badger run anywhereHmm

He is a complete twat and hopefully his lack of intelligence will shine through and he'll be rummbled by the insurance company.

Doubleuponcoffee · 21/02/2016 22:11

Severe back pain aren't the other drivers insurers paying? They'll usually give very generous pay out. It's inky if you caused it they decide your car is worth 29p. I got £1500 for a £300 car in the above accident

ThomasRichard · 21/02/2016 22:15

I wouldn't report him for this one. I loathe tailgaters and have wanted to slam on my brakes many a time mainly when suffering from PMT. The muppet has hurt himself anyway.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 21/02/2016 22:16

You can report it to the IFB - Insurance Fraud Bureau Call 0800 422 0421

They will pass the information onto the insurer who will get the claim in for damage/injury & it will be passed to the fraud dept. The quality of info will determine how far they can go. It would be helpful if you had details of where his car was tested for MOT, his REG no, and any details that you think will help/undermine his scam.

The claim might already have been picked up as fraud if the other person who hit him has raised concerns so your call would help back them up/prevent the claim being paid.

severebackpain · 21/02/2016 22:16

Hopefully doubleuponcoffee - eventually.
Nothing can compensate for the pain, shock, flashbacks and the disappointment of missing the British champs though.

Plus, there were several other very important A level related things organised for this week and she hasn't been able to do anything but take pain killers and struggle to physio.

Money doesn't compensate for everything. Sad

kirinm · 21/02/2016 22:17

Double - I used to deal with RTA personal injury claims and I can assure you I did my best to agree the lowest possible settlement.

In my younger lawyer days!

AppleSetsSail · 21/02/2016 22:17

You should assume that the person in front of you is going to stop suddenly at any time, and therefore maintain a sufficient gap. I hate tailgaters.

AppleSetsSail · 21/02/2016 22:19

Yes. And how can you actually prove why someone has stopped suddenly, or that they had no reason at all to do so? I'm sure we've all slammed on the brakes at seeing something alarming that turned out to be nothing at all.

Celticlassie · 21/02/2016 22:20

I'm sure I read that you shouldn't stop for anything smaller than a dog. So he's probably to blame anyway.

PennyHasNoSurname · 21/02/2016 22:21

More fool the twat driving up his arse.

LIZS · 21/02/2016 22:23

The failed mot will be logged. If it was as simple as replacement bulbs he was an idiot to try this on. Is he intending to claim compensation for injury too Hmm

Crispbutty · 21/02/2016 22:23

have you seen the size of a badger? its bigger than most dogs

AppleSetsSail · 21/02/2016 22:24

I'm sure I read that you shouldn't stop for anything smaller than a dog. So he's probably to blame anyway.

A lot of driving decisions are governed by reflexes, so what the DVLA thinks you should and shouldn't stop for is largely irrelevant.

severebackpain · 21/02/2016 22:24

Regardless of the tailgater (and I hate them too), he deliberately caused an accident that could have seriously injured someone else as well as himself. That is completely unacceptable IMO.

Equally, the tailgater caused the accident.

I'm always amazed on mn how many people advocate reporting any crime whoever it is committed by. I can't imagine reporting a family member for something like this.

cdtaylornats · 21/02/2016 22:30

If it was during the day its going to be hard to convine the insurers that a badger was running about.

I hate tailgaters too but FFS! He could have caused major injury to someone.

I'd be reporting it to the insurer if you can. I mean BIL's insurer. I presume you don't have details for the other one!

what a nasty piece of work your BIL is.

kirinm · 21/02/2016 22:33

Rear end shunts almost always used to be considered the responsibility of the car behind but it's also one of the types of collisions involved in fraudulent claims.

Birdsgottafly · 21/02/2016 22:40

My Dad used to slam on when tailgated, that was the 70's/80's, with children in the car without Seatbelts.

People shouldn't tailgate, full stop.

I wouldn't report him, whilst I hope he picked a tailgater with no children in the car, tailgaters aren't usually that fussy.

It was the tailgaters illegal driving that caused the accident.

NameChangeEr · 21/02/2016 22:40

I would report him as suggested up thread.

NeuNewNouveau · 21/02/2016 22:40

On the contrary I am always amazed by the amount of people on here who think it's ok not to report crime because it was committed by a family member.
