Trafford Centre Selfridges display a huge sign, STATIONARY. So I stopped stock still as requested and noticed a huge load of STATIONERY for sale.
I know I'm a pedant but this is writ in huge letters in a superior store.
No response from Twitter!

No they have not responded. Tbh that's why I put it on here...I thought they were ignorant, in both senses of the word.
I was also fuming about their tiny waisted mannequins but I might save that for another thread.

"The OP calls it Twit, not Twitter."

Where?

rosebiggs · 18/02/2016 12:12

Step away from the ellipses op.

DiscoGlitter · 18/02/2016 12:12

Now, did you take a picture?! I would have done. Get it tweeted and I'll RT it for you. My followers love stuff like that all as pedantic as me Grin

DiscoGlitter · 18/02/2016 12:13

The OP calls it Twit, not Twitter."

Where?

Exactly. This thread is seriously confusing, as I have absolutely no idea what some are on about! Confused

Disco...twit?

Ah Pedantry, my favourite.
I'd have grabbed a staff member and pointed out that the sign was incorrect.

firesidechat · 18/02/2016 12:16

Disco everyone is taking the mickey out of everyone else. Grammar threads always look like this.

firesidechat · 18/02/2016 12:18

Writ-past tense of write

But you said "is writ", not "was writ", so present tense surely.

No idea if I'm right and don't really care.

ciele · 18/02/2016 12:19

Thanks Pedestriana. I wish I had taken a photo.

Well someone did. Typed in Trafford centre Selfridges on Twitter and a picture was one of the first things to come up. From yesterday.

Bollingerbolshevik · 18/02/2016 12:22

Funny!

Ledkr · 18/02/2016 12:25

This is very funny. I don't even care who is right tbh!
Surely the past tense of write is wrote? Or am I totally illiterate?

EponasWildDaughter · 18/02/2016 12:26

You can have 'is written' and 'was written'. So surely the tense is not decided by the word.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 18/02/2016 12:27

Past participle not past tense. Modern pp would be "written". Archaic pp would be "writ".

(Caveat: educated in the 1980s so nothing I say about English grammar is all that reliable).

ciele · 18/02/2016 12:33

I was also educated in the 80s. Think I should have said archaic not past tense.
Sincere apologies...not!

This is the funniest thread ever. Grin OP, I understood your OP and thought it was funny and no YANBU. Everyone else is just adding to the entertainment. Grin

JessieMcJessie · 18/02/2016 20:50

"Writ in huge letters" is a play on the phrase/concept "writ large" which is very much in current usage today.

The OP said she "stopped stock still as requested" because she was in front of a sign that said "stationary" which means "completely still" so she was joking about obeying the command on the sign.

I get you OP Grin.

BillSykesDog · 18/02/2016 20:55

Your OH wasn't the fella doing the sadface story about being sexually harassed at the perfume counter in that self same shop in the DM last week was he?

Olddear · 18/02/2016 22:39

Best daily mail sad face was Sam and Nat yesterday. Nat had 4 kids and didn't want to have sex with Sam (ever again it seems) but having seen Sam......
