I was hoping someone else would post about this but no one has yet.

I've just seen on the mirror online that Matt Dawson has decided to release pictures of his ds battling and getting over meningitis.

I think, and please dont flame me for this, that this is a little bit of a kick in the teeth with regard to little faye, who's mum released pictures of her dying and possibly damaging to the petition. I mean, meningitis is an evil fucker and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Thank goodness his son survived and is getting better but aibu to think the could've waited until tomorrow to release the pictures...

I don't know who Matt Dawson is. However surely he is trying I add to the campaign.

Personally, having nearly died of meningitis myself, I think it's important to see that even when you do survive it's a pile of shit to get through and can leave lasting effects.

Perhaps he contact Faye's mum and she gave it the go ahead?

SoupDragon · 17/02/2016 18:06

YABU.

How in earth is it damaging? Is he saying "look, the vaccine is unnecessary!" I suspect not.

ghostyslovesheep · 17/02/2016 18:06

blimey - YABU

it's not a competition - I'm guessing it will HELP the campaign

Doublebubblebubble · 17/02/2016 18:06

Perhaps. I think I've posted this as a kind of knee-jerk rather than thinking it through... Of course anything that adds to the campaign is good. Sorry everyone x

I've seen the Matt Dawson story ,I assume he and his Wife are adding support to the campaign.

He's a well known Sports and TV personality hopefully his input might garner extra interest.

I don't get your point at all. The man is a public figure, his child had a life threatening illness and is making a recovery from a disease in the public eye at the moment. I would imagine he wants to give hope to people in similar circumstances. What difference would releasing the pictures a day later make? Weird.

CaptainCrunch · 17/02/2016 18:09

sorry, I didn't see your subsequent post. Fair enough.

DontCareHowIWantItNow · 17/02/2016 18:09

Sorry YABU.

Anything that adds to the campaign is good.

Spadequeen · 17/02/2016 18:12

Wow. Glad you've seen sense op

DinosaursRoar · 17/02/2016 18:28

Glad you've changed your mind OP - I think he was posting the photos in response to the Faye pictures, trying to keep the momentum going on the campaign, he's famous so pictures of his DS struggling to recover will get this issue more exposure.

(katenka - former England rugby player, does a lot of commentating now, one of capains on "A Question of Sport", won celebrity Masterchef)

Thank you Dinosaur didn't want to google it, incase this story came up. I am still suffering effects 15 years later. Too upsetting for me.

That said I don't object to his photos or the picture of Faye. I was shocked and a bit upset when I came across them earlier, but I think there is a need for it.
