To be gutted that BBC3 has gone?

In 2007 they took ABC1 from us and now The Man has taken away BBC3.

Really feel the BBC Trust has let us all down on this one. This is the time at night when I would normally flick over for some Family Guy before going to sleep and BBC3 overall gave us a lot of really good comedy and gave shows their start.

Bastards.

My cable box has died (it's a bit old, still has an NTL logo on it), so I've only got online stuff till a new one comes. I don't like watching stuff on my laptop though.

There was quits a few shows on which as far as I know had not reached there final episodes. The death row doc has been on and new series of traffic cops which i know may not be everyone's cup of tea but when compared to say ch4s doc style eg the A&E prog filled with stupid small talk which seems to be there format for everything, it's definitely going to put a dent in my viewing highlights.

Streaming online channels to your tv is all very well, but some of us dont have unlimited broadband and can't afford it either.

A bbc1+1 channel is a good idea...if there was ever anything on there worth watching.

Brecon, I think I love you! ;)
Everything I wanted to say, you said!

fuzzywuzzy · 18/02/2016 13:58

Is that you dp?

DP's very upset about this too he has the same watch family guy to wind down before falling asleep thing.

Just wait until the BBC have to cover the cost of free TV licenses for the elderly. Say goodbye to BBC4 and news 24.

LurkingHusband · 18/02/2016 14:42

Say goodbye to BBC4 [and news 24]

In which case, it's goodbye to our licence fee. We haven't watched any "live" TV this year (which is the reason you need a TV licence). I haven't bothered to cancel our licence because we do watch BBC4 quite a bit (plus a handful of other shows during the year).

eyebrowse · 19/02/2016 12:35

Have bought a cheap smart TV with iplayer app installed (apparently they might stop updating it so the app might stop working but fingers crossed). Found we were mostly watching tv with laptop attached for iplayer anyway. Most of BBC 4 stuff is stuffy, most of BBC3 was worthless but there were one or two gems like Being Human.

In the past quality US programmes like friends, frasier, star trek were available on BBC or Channel 4 but now their equivalents (e.g. GOT) seem to be going to sky and netflix so have to pay extra which I am currently refusing. I am also refusing Amazon because they don't pay their taxes and I don't want to pay Jeremy Clarkson

paintandbrush · 19/02/2016 21:25

End of a flipping era. I absolutely loved bbc3. watched the half of it online anyway to be fair.

Bogeyface · 19/02/2016 23:51

If you have a PS3 then you can download the app and watch it on TV via that, only found that out tonight! So I can still "watch" TV while MNing :)

NellyTimes · 20/02/2016 00:04

It seems like Family Guy is the In The Night Garden for grown ups.

xenapants · 21/02/2016 08:31

Why in gods name would anyone be upset by this? BBC3 was full of shite for imbeciles like Don't Tell The Bride and Snog, Marry, Avoid. Utter drivel.

Destinysdaughter · 21/02/2016 08:44

BBC1 is so crap these days I think they could have just merged some of the channels rather than having 4 mediocre ones!

sooperdooper · 21/02/2016 08:51

It makes sense from a technology perspective, netflicks/Amazon prime etc prove that lots of people like watching TV in an online format

I think eventually all TV will be streamed rather than scheduled - we rarely watch anything at the scheduled live slot, we record it and watch when we like, but scheduling costs loads of money that could easily be saved, not just for BBC but all TV channels (I'm sure if it means Sky makes more profit they'll move that way soon enough)

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 21/02/2016 09:58

I know Family Guy has its moments, but I can't see any justification for spending the licence fee on showing hours of it every week. The other things, maybe, but that? No.

As you'd predict it's been snapped up by another FTA channel immediately.

BikeGeek · 21/02/2016 10:19

Streaming online channels to your tv is all very well, but some of us dont have unlimited broadband and can't afford it either.

Some don't have the option of broadband good enough to stream tv either.

oliviaclottedcream · 22/02/2016 07:37

Here - here. Beeb FOUR goes - then it's bollocks to the licence fee.

YoJesse · 22/02/2016 09:19

Yes, really gutted to see it go. It's been my late night companion for ages. We have limited broadband so it's shit.
