To be gutted that BBC3 has gone?

In 2007 they took ABC1 from us and now The Man has taken away BBC3.

Really feel the BBC Trust has let us all down on this one. This is the time at night when I would normally flick over for some Family Guy before going to sleep and BBC3 overall gave us a lot of really good comedy and gave shows their start.

Bastards.

I like Netflix and Prime. But they aren't TV channels.

I like to watch TV WHILE I mn/fb. Not on my laptop. boooooo

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 17/02/2016 00:38

no more young dumb and living off Mum?

CharleyDavidson · 17/02/2016 00:43

Family Guy has been bought by ITV2 so that will still be on. No idea when though.

NellyTimes · 17/02/2016 00:46

I thought it was largely shite. However if they ever scrap BBC Four, I shall throw a large and unattractive tantrum

thebiscuitindustry · 17/02/2016 00:49

I don't think I'll particularly miss it TBH

kali110 · 17/02/2016 00:51

Yes i love family guy, american dad and some girls at night!!
Used to love watching cuckoo and orphan black too.
It's ok if you have fox.
I refuse to watch tv on the net.
Not everybody has the option to watch it on the net anyway though!
Apparently they had no money but want to bring a bbc+1 and make cbbc and cbeebies go on for longer!
Oh yeah, no money??
I'm not going to watch any bbc channels now, looking on the internet it seems i'm not the only one!

kali110 · 17/02/2016 00:53

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut to you.
Maybe the rest of us lack mental capacity.
I liked the comedies, documentaries and highlights from the festivals that i am actually interested in, rather than the popular ones that are always shown.

Destinysdaughter · 17/02/2016 01:12

BBC is shit now. Is there anything worth watching now? I like the music programmes on a Sat night, not sure if they're BBC3 or 4?

Destinysdaughter · 17/02/2016 01:14

If you like comedy, 'Kaboul Kitchen' on 'Walter Presents' on All4 is brilliant!

Bogeyface · 17/02/2016 01:16

Ermm....its still there on my tv!

We have Sky, does that make a difference?

GruntledOne · 17/02/2016 01:21

I'm really angry... we pay for that! they can't just take it!

Not exactly. The licence fee didn't go up when BBC3 was introduced, and the reality is that it's having to be abolished because of the government's refusal to allow further rises to cover costs of all the BBC's services.

sheldonesque · 17/02/2016 02:22

There were some gems on bbc3 but like nelly I would throw a proper fizzy if they got rid of bbc4.

mutton and your "it's like watching Brass Eye" ...

That has got to be one of my favourite observations on here. Ever. Grin

Topseyt · 17/02/2016 02:36

Can't say I realised it had gone and can't say I will miss it either.

I hadn't noticed it had gone. I did fill in one of the consultations on here but hadn't noticed much about it since then.

I don't really watch live TV anymore. I will watch catch up stuff on my actual TV and then occasionally on phone or tablet downloaded programmes.

So I'm not bothered about the channels as such more the programmes that get made.

LordBrightside · 17/02/2016 07:50

What's good on BBC4 other than the Scando dramas which should have been on BBC2?

HermioneJeanGranger · 17/02/2016 07:52

I have to admit I don't really watch the BBC anymore. If I do watch TV, it's Channel 4 or E4 as a rule, but mostly I watch Netflix or NowTV because it's just easier to watch it on demand through the Xbox.

BikeRunSki · 17/02/2016 07:55

Family Guy was on a different channel a few days ago, about the same time. I can't stand it, sorry, so I didn't pay much attention.

OddBoots · 17/02/2016 07:58

Is it available through iPlayer? Most TVs or boxes attached to them play iPlayer so you can still have it on your TV screen.

With the licence fee frozen and fewer people paying it (either due to age or stopping watching live TV) the BBC had to cut something and this seemed the least painful thing.

Cheby · 17/02/2016 07:58

I'm not surprised it's gone. We are in our mid thirties and stopped watching live TV years ago, we watch through catch up on the smart box thing, we watch series on Netflix etc (we do pay our TV license because I love BBC content and I think it's worth it, whether we technically have to pay or not).

I think younger people watch live TV even less than people my age, and BBC3 was aimed at under 30s. The home grown content will still be available online, a while host of it was repeats and filler so not much lost there.

The new series of Cuckoo is already available (1st episode was brilliant, watched it last night).

I think this is a sensible move by the BBC. They've got to cut expenses due to the government attacks on the license fee and the thousands of people that do their best to avoid paying it (if you watch BBC programming in any form but don't pay it then that's morally wrong in my eyes).

ABetaDad1 · 17/02/2016 08:07

The BBC is a behemoth out of control.

In my view BBC either should be a corporation dedicated to:

a) supporting programming that is not commercially viable; or

b) go to a commercial model and compete directly with Sky/Netflix/BT etc.

It at the moment competes unfairly with other commercial broadcasters because it has subscription model backed up by threat of imprisonment.

It has to choose what it is.

EBearhug · 17/02/2016 08:14

I too would be far more upset at the loss of BBC4, which I am more likely to watch deliberately and watch on catch up if I was out late, whereas my BBC viewing was more usually from channel flicking.

The content of Stacey Dooley's programmes are usually good, but she does make me channel my mother, and I want to say to her, "enunciate clearly! Articulate!" (Admittedly it drove me up the wall when she did that to me, but I was not presenting on the BBC. And also, I know it's the Acropolis, not the "Acropolips or something.")

cleaty · 17/02/2016 08:16

Never watched BBC 3, it was rubbish. BBC 4 on the other hand is amazing. And yes, I watch live TV all the time.

Hamsolo · 17/02/2016 08:22

Well, it hasn't gone in any meaningful way. It's all on iplayer and new stuff is getting a repeat on BBC1 or BBC2, so even if you only watch live TV you'll still get a chance to see it.

I can't remember the last time I watched anything live...

I'd expect more channels to follow - not just from the BBC, but this is the way things are moving. The BBC is getting less money from the government (or more accurately, being asked to use licence fee money to fund extra things like free licences for the over 70s). Commercial channels are losing money because advertisers are spending less. It makes sense to use less money to make fewer, better, programmes which will reach bigger audiences, rather than just filling a schedule.

And, it's the way more and more people (especially younger people) are watching TV programmes).
