To be gutted that BBC3 has gone?

In 2007 they took ABC1 from us and now The Man has taken away BBC3.

Really feel the BBC Trust has let us all down on this one. This is the time at night when I would normally flick over for some Family Guy before going to sleep and BBC3 overall gave us a lot of really good comedy and gave shows their start.

Bastards.

Family guy and American dad are the programmes we watch in bed and the only programmes that dp and I both like. It will be sorely missed. Have itv2 got them on at the same time? Have only Freeview so no Fox.

TempsPerdu · 17/02/2016 08:38

Can't say I'll miss it - haven't watched anything on BBC3 for years. Love BBC4 though, and will be most unimpressed if that disappears!

Mammabrown · 17/02/2016 08:45

Family guy is going to ITV2 not sure when I dont get fox on my bedroom tv so no American Dad tut i thought it was all on halt till i saw stacey dooley and Greg Davies on the 1 show last night even they looked meh about the whole thing. I only have a Tablet dont want to watch tv in a teeny tiny screen

Mammabrown · 17/02/2016 08:47

I player isnt the same

SelfRaisingFlour · 17/02/2016 08:51

I don't watch it, but it's aimed at young people and young people prefer to watch on demand.

My kids prefer YouTube to old fashioned TV. They never sit and channel surf like we did, accepting whatever happens to be on.

MintyChapstick · 17/02/2016 08:52

FamilyGuy is moving to ITV2. So people will still be able to watch that.

LurkingHusband · 17/02/2016 08:54

I like Netflix and Prime. But they aren't TV channels.

Want a bet ?

I noted a while ago that YouGov, when asking "What TV did you watch last night" counted YouTube, Prime and NetFlix as "channels".

And, more importantly, they are all endsources of advertising - so almost by definition a "TV" channel. (You can get them on your TV. They can carry adverts. Ipso facto - they're TV channels).

We live in interesting times Smile

icclemunchy · 17/02/2016 08:54

We got an email from bt the other day saying they were having to stop showing fox because of licensing or something. So OH is most put out he can't watch family guy/American dad

Mammabrown · 17/02/2016 09:06

Yeah the kids all watch you tube and catch up maybe I am so ancient that I cant cope with change Grin

Mammabrown · 17/02/2016 09:08

My Dd streams prime through her playstation

StitchesInTime · 17/02/2016 09:25

BBC3 is the BBC channel I watch the least, so if they had to lose one, it's the least bad option as far as I'm concerned.

CBeebies on the other hand - we have 2 DC under 5 who love that, so losing that would hurt.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 17/02/2016 09:32

I thought I was the only person who watched ABC1

LurkingHusband · 17/02/2016 09:36

Meanwhile, BBC4 is the most watched broadcast channel in the Lurking household ....

absolutelynotfabulous · 17/02/2016 09:43

I've never watched it, and I don't know anyone who does.

I fear for the future of BBC 4, though.....not mainstream enough maybe to survive?

absolutelynotfabulous · 17/02/2016 09:44

Meant to ask if anyone knows what the viewing figures are? (I presume only 'live' viewers can be counted?).

Cheby · 17/02/2016 09:46

Catch up is much better than live TV. You watch what you want when you want to. We watch it on our actual TV, or iPad or phone. We don't sit with the TV on for hours in the background because it's just there, we actively watch something then turn it off.
I end up catching stuff I wouldn't otherwise have seen but is interesting, because I might search for a documentary while I'm cooking in the kitchen. I hear a lot of radio shows I would otherwise have missed. This is definitely a move in the right direction, they could put it all online and I'd be happy.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 17/02/2016 09:51

BBC4 is Exhibit A when it comes to proving that the BBC is fulfilling its public service remit. It's as safe as Radio 3.

Thatrabbittrickedme · 17/02/2016 09:51

It's not gone though, it's on I player and as we only watch TV through online there's no change for us. We've got all 3 TVs in our house set up as online only now - cancelled the Sky subscription about 3 years ago and don't regret it at all.

Glitterunicorn · 17/02/2016 09:54

I'm gutted bbc3 has gone too.

It was the only channel we used to watch live as I hate with a passion watching adverts.

We do watch most tv on demand or record. But bbc3 family guy and American dad was my guilty pleasure in the evenings.

We do have a full Virgin media package in our bedroom but for us it's bbc3, occasionally we would flick over to fox if we had seen the episode on bbc3 recently but it's not the same!

It was the only BBC Chanel we watched.

I wish it was possible to opt out of the BBC channels all together as I would do that not bbc3 has gone.

LurkingHusband · 17/02/2016 09:59

Catch up is much better than live TV

This. A thousand times.

Also, how come people are so happy to pay Sky, Virgin et al, and still get adverts ???.

If I was paying £xx a month (looks at Virgin bill. Hang on - I am paying £xx a month Angry) then I would jolly-well want no **ing adverts.

The executives at Sky must be pissing themselves laughing - they're being paid from both ends !

(Of course, a content provider who takes payment and doesn't pump ads out is the industrys worst fear ... looks to Prime).

EastMidsMummy · 17/02/2016 10:00

They're not TV channels, any more than a Blockbuster video store was a TV channel. (And incidentally, they don't carry ads. Not that that has any bearing on it - isn't BBC1 a TV channel?)

Mammabrown · 17/02/2016 10:08

Bbc3 was our nighttime slob out T V as i said before catch up isnt the same

StitchesInTime · 17/02/2016 10:27

You definitely get ads on YouTube. I don't have Prime or Netflix so no idea about those.

LurkingHusband · 17/02/2016 10:52

No ads on Prime.

LordBrightside · 17/02/2016 11:20

I feel like I'm missing out now. What's good on BBC4 other than the scandinavian stuff?
