What kind of monsters would leave a child to starve?

Apparently they thought the child was a witch so abandoned him to starve.
It's disturbing to think that in this day and age people would do such a thing.
He's not the only one.
Thousands of children in Nigeria are being accused of being witches and are starved, beaten and tortured.

I'm pleased to see that people are at least donating forwards educating people out of this cruel, uncivilized way of treating children.

I read about this yesterday and I was utterly horrified. It's beyond belief.

I cried about this yesterday when I first saw it and I still find it really upsetting to think about it now - he was found in time but what about others that haven't?

I saw this yesterday and it made me feel physically ill. Poor, poor little boy. I just wanted to scoop him up and nurture him. :(

Amazing he survived on his own for so long. I hope his future is a little brighter than his short past.

I saw this and couldnt read it. Not sure if i'm ready yet. Its heart breaking. Down to what? Ignorance? Brainwashing? Deliberate cruelty? Its just awful. Those poor children. I saw a film a journalist made a few years ago about the witch children. Truly horrific.

I couldn't read it. It dragged the same emotions out of me as when I saw the picture of Aylan washed up on the beach. It made me sob. DS2 will be 2 next month. He is still a baby and I looked at him sleeping safe in his crib when I went to bed and cried thinking of any 2 year old that doesn't have the warmth, safety and love in their parents arms. It is unthinkable.

They think he had been alone for 8 months. 8 MONTHS! I want to weep thinking of him alone, fending for himself for so long, my heart absolutely breaks for him, that poor poor baby. A curse on those who abandoned him and for turning their backs on him. They are not human.

I hope and pray that he is showered with love and nurturing and affection and adopted by people who can give him everything that was so lacking in his life.

Awful - I didn't realise there were charities set up for children just like him too, so it's not an unusual thing to happen, obviously.
And as for the albino children who are killed/maimed for their body parts... simply atrocious.

I keep realising how sheltered I/we in the Uk are from some of the real atroctities in the world. So so much pain happening.

It shocked me too. My daughter is 2. I can't imagine her living, wandering the streets for 8 months.

You wonder just how he survived. I mean how? That he got enough food to sustain himself? That he wasnt abducted or murdered or have an accident! Makes me wonder how many havent survived.

I am actually in floods of tears after seeing that! How could anyone do such a thing?! That poor child!!

I find it shocking that no-one else took him in and cared for him in the 8 months he was on his own. Poor child.

I think it's about time we started to realise that not every culture in the world thinks the same as us. So many atrocities carried out in the name of culture or religion. So many people treat their children/family/women/neighbours like shit and think it's normal. It worries me that we are supposed to be so open to migration and are expected to allow people in to out midst from countries where people can believe children can be witches!

It's a fucked up world.

I have a two year old and the though of him being alone for even a second is horrifying.

It is beyond me how a whole town/village could allow this to happen and just look the other way, I can just about get me head around the idea that the parents are arseholes but how could every single person that lives there let this go on?

Throwing money at this barbaric treament of children isn't going to bring about any change whatsoever and the billions that have been pumped into certain African countries should have dragged them out of the dark ages long ago.

I have sobbed about this. It genuinely breaks my heart. That amazing woman who rescued him is on Facebook and it's worth a look. She says that some of the children have even worse stories.
I'd bring him here and give him a home in a heartbeat.

Surely its better that we welcome these people into our communities where that absoloutely wouldnt be allowed and is punishable by our justice system so that the children that come with them stand a better chance of a) it not happening to them and b) learning that its not normal elsewhere in the world.

And actually though I'm happy to donate I think time and money needs to be spent on education. I just can't absolutely can't get my head around the logic at all of the families of these children.

I think it's a much bigger problem than most realise. Some of the countries involved are still hugely superstitious and very much believe in witchcraft. It's incredibly tragic. The poor little boy. I hope he is loved for the rest of his days.
