to let my baby stare at the gro egg?

She's in her cot overtired and grumpy, we've tried rocking and white noise and I fed her to sleep briefly but she woke up 10 seconds afterwards. Anyway it really seems to be chilling her out, is it just gonna overstimulate her? I normally hide it but got it out to check temp and she stopped grizzling immediately.
Oh it's on judgey pants orange as per usual in our super hot flat.

She's 3m and having a bit of a rough patch at the mo, fights all sleep, hates naps etc etc.

Do I continue to let her enjoy this gro egg moment?

I don't know I thought it might overstimulate her further and just delay a meltdown!

I would put the twins in front of the washing machine in the same chair a grow egg seems very civilised :-)

I left her to it and have gone back in to check on her and SHE HAS GONE TO SLEEP. You don't know what this means to me- see various threads in the sleep section Grin

I used to let my baby sit and watch Aliens cos for some reason the shrieking and yelling made her sleep. if it works, it works!

I did not know this! What a revelation. I won't count my chickens yet as things seem to tend not to work twice with her but fingers crossed!

I had to google Gro-eggs as they hadn't been invented when mine were babies.Surely they are made to be looked at by babies?

I don't know Marnia! I always thought they would be in the room but be far away from the cot- just for the parents to look at!

DS2 used to stare at a particular spot on the ceiling, until he nodded off. It looked no different to any other part of the ceiling, but we decided that this particular bit of the ceiling must be the bit where the fairies dance :)

If she likes that she would love our turtle that makes sea sounds and projects dappled sea onto the ceiling. I used to have to cover it with a tissue as DS would stare directly at the light which I didn't think was good for his eyes!

That's cute ouryve, it must help them focus on something other than thrashing their tired legs about (in my dd's case anyway)

OP is this your first?

I only have one DD who is nearly 13 mos old so like you, figuring it all out as I go! My mum gave me one invaluable piece of advice when DD wouldn't sleep or be soothed: leave her be

Every time she cried I'd go up and rock her and sing her to sleep. I used to sit by her till she slept every night. Sometimes it took nearly 2 hours.

Then my mum visited and looked at me like I was barking, and said, 'she's crying because she's tired and she wants to be left alone to go to sleep. How would you like it if you were trying to sleep and someone kept getting you out of bed to rock you. Go downstairs and have dinner!'

It felt really wrong as DD was grumping - not really crying but clearly not happy - but I did as I was told and my God, it was magic. That was when she was about 5.5 mos old and since then, virtually every night for about 7 mos straight, she has gone down at 7pm with no fuss (barring illness and teething).

.........which is a longwinded way of saying, maybe your baby is overstimulated at bedtime and just needs to wind down on her own with a comfort object?

Ooo bohemond is that the tranquil turtle? I've got my eye one one of those in mamas and papas but they're not in stock till March.

She likes watching me make shadow puppets on the wall and it always calms her down so that's what made me look up light shows, I didn't think a simple gro egg would do similar though.

A larva lamp is a great tool for staring at and going to sleep! My DS has always found light relaxing - still does now and he's 11!

YABU not to try anything that works!
