To think nothing good will come from this?

Obviously a name change.

DF has applied to go on a famous Fly on the Wall type programme. She's lovely, great fun, a perfect friend. This programme is renowned for its snidy commentary.

I'm concerned that whatever she does could be represented badly in the edit. I think she needs her bumps feeling, I think she could be crushed by the final programme. There's nothing I can do, filming starts soon. I'll be there as a supportive friend whenif I'm needed.

AIBU to think this is unlikely to go well?

I kinda really want some YABU answers, folks, and you to convince me I'm an utter cynic.

Sour grapes? I really don't understand that reasoning.

If it is Come Dine with me, it might not mean much, but my lovely friend went on it and the worst they said was that her food was too rich. She had a lovely time.

Thanks, the programme has been mentioned above, and a couple of reassuring comments, so I'll relax a bit. And continue on with my fingers crossed for a true reflection and just be there for her whatever the outcome.

I LOVE come Dine With Me and part of the reason is the commentator, he gently ribs the contestants but never anything nasty said even when the contestants are nut cases

Having been through this (as a 'supporting cast member' as it were, not the main person) I would say never, ever to do it! The editing put the main person in the worst possible light, and it was just horrendous. The fall out is still going on several years down the line.

However, this was not something as gentle as Come Dine with Me....

CalleighDoodle · 14/02/2016 21:27

My brother has been on Come dine with Me (twice!). We (other siblings, parents, anyone who knows him...) were amazed he came across so well as he can be an absolute argumentative tit in real life Grin.

I don't have experience of participating in a show like that, but I know some TV production people and do not believe that they try to picture people in bad light on purpose (including Come Dine with Me). I think bad things can happen, but they are not likely to happen. You are trying to imply that bad things are inevitable - I would definitely disagree with that. A lot of good things can happen too! There is some risk involved, so perhaps you're just risk averse, and she's not?

Hurtful social media comments are likely but for most people it's a learning experience - you worry about the first one, but then grow thick skin and move on.

If its CDWM then it should be fine. Even the woman who got pissed and fell asleep leaving her guests downstairs didnt cop for much. I mean yes, she made an utter fool of herself but that was down to her not the editing.

I think the contestants who get it the worst are the snobs and self professed "foodies" who are so struck by their own brilliance, and even then its gentle piss taking rather than out and out nastiness.

The lady you mention bogeyface died of alcoholism. Such a shame as she seemed nice but was clearly not right.
