My husband has had cosmetic surgery

He's over 60 and has done this before. I went away for a few days and when I got back I noticed his face looked different. I asked him about it and at first he denied everything. After a few days I asked him again and he admitted he's had threads put in under the skin to lift his jowls. This isn't the first time he has done this. He has had a nose job, eye lifts, mini face lift, chemical peel etc. He knows I absolutely hate anything like this. He always does it behind my back when I travel. I think it's pathetic and have told him he will end up looking like Mickey Rourke. Our 2 teenage kids would think he's a laughing stock if they found out. I'm thinking of walking out. AIBU?

Was thinking that too Ozzie. Plastic surgery with no visible means of support?

Very generous 'friend' Hmm

notonyurjellybellynelly · 12/02/2016 12:24

What he's had done wouldn't be expensive even if he was paying full price, and it is possible he's put away money in dribs and drabs till he's saved for it.

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 12/02/2016 12:59

It's his body and his choice so YANBU to try and dictate what he can and can't have don't to it.

YANBU to leave him for lying to you though! If someone lies to me I think hmmmmm and what else have you lied about. It's impossible to trust him about anything now he's lied about this when it's literally written all over his face because many things wouldn't be there for you to see so he could be lying about other things much more successfully...

I think surgery to alter your appearance is something I would expect couples to discuss. The marriage sounds as though it should have been over years ago though.

It's his body, his decision. If a woman would be complaining here, the DH would get grilled.

KillBillHill · 16/03/2016 10:55

3 cosmetic surgery type threads and blogs on the active page.....hmmm!

Sparklingbrook · 16/03/2016 10:57

robertmorton you need to ask permission for your survey.

KillBillHill · 16/03/2016 11:01

RobertMorton, is the man in this thread a figment of your imagination your father?

almondpoisson · 16/03/2016 11:19

I disagree that people smarten themselves up for a bit on the side. Maybe he just wants things done and feels better in himself afterwards. The things sound relatively minimal on the scale of Mickey Rourkery. I am not surprised he does it in secret if you disapprove so much.

almondpoisson · 16/03/2016 11:20

But I think he's probably paying for it and lying that he's not.

LaConnerie · 16/03/2016 11:21

Try going away for a month - you might come home to Johnny Depp.

This is the best response I've read on MN for ages.

But OP sounds like his 'work' is the least of your problems. Sling him and his plastic face out.

Personally I wouldn't want to be with someone vain enough to want plastic surgery, but I do my makeup everyday and care about my appearance so I am probably just being sexist.

ElementaryMyDear · 16/03/2016 11:22

It's his body, his decision.

But, it would appear, almost certainly OP's money.

TurnOffTheTv · 16/03/2016 11:22

This thread is weeks old....

iwuddarryl · 16/03/2016 11:23

Who's he trying to impress with his new jowels?

Hopefully you. But you never know Hmm

almondpoisson · 16/03/2016 11:23

I'd suggest cosmetic surgery comes with innately larger risks than other options, like make up, blow dries, hair dye, clothes, makeovers. But it's no more vain or narcissistic than daily makeup, is it? really?

almondpoisson · 16/03/2016 11:24

oops just seen date!

almondpoisson · 16/03/2016 11:25

Is he Johnny Depp now? Grin

lunar1 · 16/03/2016 11:30

My husband has done many surgeries for free for people in various circumstances. The free part being his time and skill. There is still the cost of the room, equipment, drugs, anaesthetist, second surgeon, nurses, recovery and on and on.

The only way it could be free is if this friend completely owns the practice, including the building and all its contents and employs all the staff who work there.

Does he have a friend that fits that description? If not I think you need to look at where the money is coming from for all these surgeries.

goodolenc · 16/03/2016 11:35

shrekislove · 16/03/2016 11:37

Wow he must have had serious issues with how old his hands looked! How's the rest of him aging?
