To think waitrose should give you the best deal on 3 for 2 not make you go through the checkout separately

They have a huge amount of veg on 3 for 2 at the moment.

I bought 3 cavero nero for 1.25 each and 3 PR papaya for 2.85 each.

Was expecting to get one CN for free and one PRP for free. But no, I had to complain to CS for a refund. I know sainsburys don't make you do this, seems funny that waitrose do. When lots of their veg is on 3 for 2 it isn't clear that the 3 for 2 is on all veg not just one variety.

I thought this was the same everywhere with offers like this? 3 for 2 means cheapest free so if you buy 6 and get 2 free then it will be the 2 cheapest.

No I think YANBU. I hate it when shops do this.

It's annoying. Boots do every 3rd item free so for 6 things costing 10 9 8 4 4 2 you'd have for the 8 and 2 item free.

YANBU. most shops have changed over to doing the way you expected - eg the Boots computer arranges them in descending order of price and gives you every third item free so you get the best deal on their 3 for 2s. I think they changed over as otherwise people were splitting their basket and putting it through the till in more than one go so it was costing the shops extra time.

self serve checkouts are a bonus in these scenarios just put through the offer you want

YANBU. I've had this with Waitrose before and thought the same thing. If they have an offer, they shouldn't calculate it in such a way you pay more putting it through the till in one go than you would if you split it up.

How is it reasonable that you pay more for buying 6 than if you bought 3 twice?

They don't mind on principle. It's just their computer system can't handle it

I worked in 2 big high street chains over 10 years ago. If they were able to do it then (which they were) then Waitrose should be able to do it now!
I have boycotted Clintons for a couple of years now as they tried to do the same to me. I emailed their "customer services" saying they were conning their customers. The response I got back was basically "we know and we shall continue to do so!"

It's usually the cheapest item free and usually people won't buy 3 of the same fruit or veg item and buy 3 different ones. (May just be me)

Not helpful but this is definitely a First World Problem

They are not famous for their i t. It won't be a customer service issue as such, although I agree the system impacts on it it. It's's just computer-y crappiness on their part

OddSocks it's cavolo nero and it's like kale. I don't think I know what a PR papaya is though.
