AIBU?

Does anyone else think Madonna should just chill out and have a rest now?

She's been at war with her ex regarding residency of her son who seems to want to stay in UK with his dad. She's been accused of manipulating laws so she could get to adopt her two kids.

She's also now nearing 60 and hasn't done that much for anyone or any sort of cause but just wants to prance about in a body suit singing outdated songs. Shouldn't she just give it a rest?

Adele got some very nasty comments said about her by someone else in the public eye.....the late Joan Rivers.

She doesn't really come across as a nice person.

Cubic, I am not criticising TT. I've seen her live Grin I was making a comparison of sorts but probably not being articulate.

I've seen that thread now, the way this OP is referencing it you'ld swear the general consensus of the thread was that Beyonce was old and shouldn't have kids!

Just because of one rediculous post about her being old

I guess she is in public eye years, not really a phenomonon unique to black women though, more of a feminist issue really:

I was agreeing with you Monty , sorry Grin

I think you sound old and past it. And I think Madonna couldn't give a tinker's cuss what you thought. In fact it's kinda laughable that you think you know what's best for one of the biggest stars of our time. You will sleepwalk to your grave, embittered and knowing best. She will die a legend.

Stupid premise for a thread

Op, if your friends told you to jump off a bridge would you do it ?

Report
lorelei9 · 10/02/2016 10:06

Whoever said Beyoncé was past it must be the same ilk as those who think Madonna is past it. I didn't see the thread, did anyone agree with that?!

Op, you asked if people think Taylor Swift will be the Madonna for this generation. I think yes in a way, but Taylor has more ability re songwriting, playing instruments etc so her focus could be different.

I think as an exercise in...what...racism testing..? This was pointless and the handling made no sense, you criticised Madonna for her age and then said you didn't care about her age. If you want to form a coherent argument, you might want to start by posting words you actually mean.

As a kid, I remember bitchy media commentators saying Tina Turner should pack it in. Black, white, ageism is rife.

I'm not white btw. And I'm sure you'd see people rush to Tina's defence as well.

It's sad when people seek prejudice where none exist.

Maybe Bowie should have given it up at 50? Or the Stones? Or McCartney ( I wish he would).

Oh but they're men so it's ok, Madonna is a woman so she should graciously disappear as older women are no longer relevant.

Ridiculous OP.
Have one of these Biscuit

Ageist sexism strikes again!

You have a choice: the OFF button on your radio or television. You don't have to buy her records.

Wait til you're 60, and people tell you to hide away from the public gaze, stop wearing clothes you like, and quit your job.

Madonna is a songwriter.

It's because you opened with the age thing. If you'd posted in feminism asking whether Madonna was a pattern-setter for the performance of female sexual exploitation for individual gain at the cost of collective diminishment of cultural representation of women and cultural presence of women in media/music industry, you might have had a different response.

I get your point though: when white women do it, it's art and irony, when black women do it ....

I think that says a lot about the barriers women of colour face as creatives and artists.

On the other hand, we could start a movement deconstructing 'white irony' and reframe it as the cop-out it so often is.

I like what2's response too.

Very succinct.

Report
dustarr73 · 10/02/2016 10:41

Op how dare you make judgement on anyone you dont know personally. Her son want s to live with his father,it doesnt mean shes a shit mother.

She is a Superstar who has earned her stripes, she did things her way.And took no prisoners i love Madonna, shes one of my role models.I have followed her for 30 years.

You should be ashamed starting such a crap sexist, ageist thread.I would love to see what you are capable of on stage.

And Sean Penn never beat her,she signed an affadavit to that affect a few months ago in America.

CrystalMcPistol · 10/02/2016 11:08

Madonna is a massively overrated pop singer and nothing more, but she should carry on until she drops if she so chooses.

I think OP needs to stop reading the DM online. Who really knows what is going on with Madonna's children?

Report
NeedsAsockamnesty · 10/02/2016 12:24

If I was 15 I would struggle on world tours I would also more than likely prefer to hang out in a country where 15yo's are treated as almost adults than one where they are still very much children. It wouldn't mean I hated the parent who lived in either place

LineyReborn I haven't made a dig at Lourdes at all. In fact I haven't even mentioned her at all. But do continue to extrapolate and make things up.

dustarr73 I have not made a judgement. If expressing an opinion is therefore making a judgement in your opinion then I worry for you. I never even suggested that she was a "shit mother" so wherever you conjured that idea from you should put it back. In fact if you read it clearly I said that her son seems to want to stay in the UK with his father - how you then managed to think that I am therefore calling her a "shit mother" means you must have done quite a few logical somersaults. And as you asked, I used to be a backing dancer so I'd say I didn't look too bad on stage. Thanks.

CrystalMcPistol I absolutely agree with you.

Toxicity I don't really read the DM online, I don't profess to know about anyone's personal life. Although I might read about celebrities, I don't claim to be the all-knowing oracle about their personal lives.

lorelei9 Yes, people did actually say that Beyonce was past it - oddly enough Rihanna too who is only twenty-something.

Samcro Nope, I'm not trying to be a GF, if I were and if you think so please report me and let HQ deal with it. I have already said I don't give a flying if Madonna is 57 or 27.

SimonLeBonOnAndOn Thanks for the biscuit. This thread is not about men vs women but as you have read the thread and 'obviously' understood it,, I shall graciously accept the biscuit.

AnyFucker Well AF, if my friends told me to jump off a bridge then I probably wouldn't do it. The thing is, starting a thread on an online forum is slightly different - perhaps even on a minuscule level, different from actually committing suicide. But again, I'll let you decide your limits.
