We have many tube spiders living around the front door.

They terrify me, but I can cope with them when they're in their tubes.

However, Saturday evening I couldn't get in as one was right by the key lock. I had to tap on the window to alert dh to open the door, whilst I hurtled, bent over, through the door.

I've counted 8 large tubes so far. They are growing in numbers!

stupid question, why do we need spider pic warnings? I mean it's a bit weird that adults behave in such a hysterical manner.

Is it just me or does the evil little fecker hollinhurst84 posted only have 7 legs?

I am braver than I used to be with spiders. I have a rather large one living in my passenger side wing mirror who I'm a little bit fond of but couldnt cope with them buggers on my door!

I'd be ringing my dad to come round and get rid. They look evil

smallgreen because arachnophobia is a very real, very serious and debilitating thing for some people.

Valiant, maybe the 8th leg got eaten by a bigger spider? Wink

This thread just made me Google tube spiders. Not sleeping tonight! Sad Ignorance really is bliss.
I also vote for burning the house down.

Nooo! Burn the house down. There is a couple of people on here that may know what they are though. Check the thread in classics called "to kill all the spiders" you will come across some very knowledgeable posters who may be able to help.

People actually need a warning for a spider photo?

They are lovely. And will get rid of insect pests.

You need to befriend the cellar spiders/daddylonglegs spiders. They eat the big house spiders, might eat tube spiders too. There are videos on YouTube too. I am so much more tolerant of the skinny legged ones now than I used to be - Charlottes, I think someone named them, on another thread?

Seeing as we've gone there already with the photos, here's a pic (and everything is friendlier with googly eyes, right?)

what I do not understand is why you did not solve the problem there and then. and wallop it on the head

Wot Lweji said. I bloody love spiders because they kill flies and I hate flies.

FattyNinjaOwl · 09/02/2016 19:54

dingleberry yes, they were named Charlottes on the thread I mentioned above, and the big house spiders are gallopy fuckers

Report
RainOhJoyus · 09/02/2016 20:00

The fuck they are house spiders, they are tube spiders.
I use a spider replete at spray, £12 a can but I have no spiderwebs around the doors and none inside.
Of course you can't put them outside, they will just come back in, kill the feckers. Whatever it takes. This fear is rational for a reason!

This is an aside but does anyone else have house flies at the moment? Oh found a dead one on the floor last night anf I ushered one out of the window this morning. Ordinary black house fly. In February? In England?

Shock those spiders are scary! Seriously, chestnut oil deters spiders. You can buy a spray online.
Not sure I'll sleep tonight for feeling those tickles on my legs that you just know are spiders under the bedsheets then turn out to be nothing

Is that what they're called? I have squillions of those all over my garden.

Does anyone else remember when we used to call spiders 'loofahs' in thread titles?

I have a FB friend (South African) who posted a couple of days ago that there was a Rain Spider in her living room but in the split second between photographing it and looking again at the wall it was gone. She put up the picture. Rain Spider. Google it. Or don't. She still hasn't found it and is walking round like the undead having had VERY little sleep for two nights. I was going to go on holiday to SA next year. Reconsidering.
