Aibu to hate my washing machine (seriously)

Had my latest washing machine for two years. Or is it three now? Anyway, I can't stand it!! It irritates me HUGELY.

Set a full load of white shirts, t shirts, socks and undies off for a wash at 9.30. The display said it would take 2 hrs 35 min (long cottons wash with an extra rinse). Just been back in kitchen and it now says 1 hr 15 mins.

It is taking the p is it not? What is the point of having a smart machine if it isn't actually smart at all?

I shall continue to mutter unpleasant things to it every time I have to use it until it gives up. Its a bollocks of a machine, that's what it is.

Mine is a samsung and plays a tune when it has finished. (smug face)

NotAWhaleOmeletteInSight · 09/02/2016 09:30

Mine is an AEG washer/dryer. We bought it 6 years ago and it's already been replaced once under warranty. I don't like it at all.

I've found out that modern AEGs are just devious Hotpoints in disguise.

It taunts me.

It will say 1 minute remaining for up to 13 minutes.

Sometimes it locks our clothes in for no reason and just for fun. It beeps incessantly for up to 5 minutes before deigning to release the laundry.

Bastard.

JustBeingJuliet · 09/02/2016 10:57

I've got a dead basic Indesit washer which does exactly what it should. Have to admit, it wasn't my first choice, but it was what I could afford at the time. Its 15 minute quick wash is fab.

liinyo · 09/02/2016 11:27

We have a Miele in our main house and love it. When we built a second home in Ireland we were on a budget and thought it wasn't worth spending the big bucks for a Miele so installed a Zanussi. I hated it but my DH said it wasn't worth replacing it until it broke down. Roll on 5 years and he hosted a 'lads' weekend there for a load of his mates. He had to wash the bedding and towels for 11 of them in the Zanussi - 6 weeks later the new Miele was installed! Miele all the way

If the time isn't keeping and when you touch the glass it's cold it sounds like the temp gauge is gone. Call the manufacturer and get someone out to look at it. Should be a quick fix.

Can I post about the love I have for mine?! One house move and 28 years later and it's still plodding on despite the 'funny noises' it makes. It surely most be on it's last legs, it's ancient!

What I love is the hot water feed into it so cycles are really quick. Don't think you can get this feature any more so I shall mourn it when it dies.

Talking about it now means it's going to conk out of course. Grin

TheNoodlesIncident · 09/02/2016 11:52

Oooh I'd LOVE a Miele.

My Hoover however tells me that it has somewhere between half an hour and fifteen minutes to go. Or more than 30 minutes. It rinses with icy cold water for the final rinse so when I haul the claggy wet stuff out it chills my hands quite thoroughly. I find myself looking at it with disfavour sometimes, although it has not, as yet, done anything wrong, I feel quite strongly that it might and is in fact pondering what it could do. If it really wanted

The tumble drier is a White Knight and for some reason (probably caused by being pregnant and therefore doolally) I felt I should buy a budget drier and really only use it for the baby's clothes. No idea why DH pandered to this sort of insanity, we all know that where white goods are concerned, more engineering = GOOD. The tumble drier has two heat settings: "Hotter Than The Surface of the Sun" OR "Off". The bearings for the drum broke down and DH unfortunately successfully repaired it, ignoring me sitting glued to Your Next Tumble Drier Will Be Better (4th Ed.)

Mine is a Bosch and it does the same thing. It seems to be related to how heavy the washing is - so if a load is particularly weighty, it will take longer. It does wash really well, though, so I can't rage at it... I just mutter insults under my breath when out of its earshot.

SuperKingDuvet · 09/02/2016 12:04

Mine (Indesit) irritates me because every programme takes about 15 mins longer than the book says Angry

YellowTulips · 09/02/2016 12:09

Another Miele lover here.

It even has cartridges for the detergent that dispense automatically and last for 3 months.

It was £££ but quite honestly it is like a member of the family I love it (and my Miele Dryer) so much.

I got it as DS and I have eczema and it has a special allergy wash. It's defiantly made a difference.

Blushblushes at how white goods can provoke such a strong reaction.

I had a Miele dishwasher before the XDW had her midlife crisis and demanded a divorce. I really miss it.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/02/2016 21:06

liinyo - as you have two houses (one of which you built to spec) and two Miele washing machines, I don't doubt for one second that you could afford a third. It's only about, what, a piddling £800? How about donating one to your poor deprived fellow poster whose Bosch is pissing her off?

CrossfireHurricane · 09/02/2016 21:10

I love my miele.
No pissing about with smart/logic shizzle it just washes clothes '- well.
I would donate a kidney to replace it if needed

FithColumnist · 09/02/2016 21:15

YANBU. Your washing machine is a dick. LTB.

Bunnyjo · 09/02/2016 21:41

I also have a Miele and I love mine too!

FairyDustDreamer · 18/02/2016 22:10

Just got new Beko. Cheap one with big drum.
BUT- seem to have leaky connector bit [blue tap]. Nothing to do with machine but service valve I believe- power of Google...
Just a gentle drip, drip. Bugger, pipes and valves etc freak me out!!
Ruining my joy of new machine.
At least old Hotpoint monster has left the building.....

OolonColluphid · 18/02/2016 22:24

Mine sings, took the kids ages to stop checking if it was nearly done and staying for the 'performance' 😂 I love it extra as I won it.

Qwebec · 18/02/2016 22:26

There must be something going on with UK washers. I got a great and huge maytag washer and the longuest cycle is just over 1h, normal cycle 45min. The dryer takes 30-40 minutes except if I forget to take out the towels then dries for hours and seems to forget to stop even if everything is bone dry

Is it because your are mone energy efficient?

FairyDustDreamer · 18/02/2016 22:30

Are top loaders more efficient than the front loaders so popular in Britain?

Yanbu.
Ours got bashed getting reinstalled and the foot caved in. It's now on rubber blocks and the pump filter is damaged. I can't get to the pump filter.
Now the damned thing has to be emptied with a bucket at the bottom drain thing after every sodding wash and it is horribly noisy. It also tries to escape the kitchen.

I hate it.
I can't afford a new one.

firstcrack · 18/02/2016 22:50

Wash speed is the most critical feature when I choose a washing machine.

My latest machine washes a full load in 18 minutes, including spin.

AnnieOnnieMouse · 18/02/2016 22:53

I hate hate hate my beko dryer. It decides that soggy towels are actually extra dry, even when I've cleaned the filters - including the hidden one.
So far I do love my new John Lewis washer - it actually works. Even tho it takes loads longer to wash, it swallows a 9kg load.
Still hate the dryer, tho. And my expensive cordless AEG vac, but don't tell DP, as he spent days and £££ mending it last year. It seems you have to vacuum out the filter. For which, of course, you need another vac. Which I don't have.

RoseDog · 18/02/2016 22:59

My BEKO washer on Tuesday night a few days out its years warranty decided to throw a foam party, I was not amused!
