To want a complete makeover????

Hi all , i am a mum in my early thirties and i feel like i need a complete makeover... i feel so frumpy! i really like the punk/ alternative look, funky hair, gothic style clothing, that sort of thing. Am i too old to embrace this style? my daughter thinks ive turned into an alien and is begging me to stay mumsy lol ! really want to look nice and have my own style. What do others think? has anyone ever had a complete makeover? [ hmmm ]

Yes, you are too old to embrace this style - at least, in the way that a 16 year old would do. But there are still plenty of ways to look edgy and cool in your 30s.

That's quite an extreme look to go for if you've never been that way.

I don't think of any age as too old. Wear what you fancy. If anyone knows your age under goth make up, I'd be surprised!

Ok, so looking for ideas.. Maybe a nice hair style? Way of dressing? What you guys think? Any suggestions would be great

What is your current style op. Maybe instead of doing something extreme , you could 'sharpen' your current look so you have a makeover but still comfortable?

Hi Always and Madame I've never really had a style icon per se, I just wear the usual mum uniform, jeans, parka, boots, comfy top. That sort of thing. I'm a bigger lady too so that doesn't help! I'm just trying to find an edgier look as I feel old and past it X

Can you find a photo of your "ideal" look? Maybe you can then find ways to moderate that into a more day to day look eg buy a really cool leather jacket or get your hair cut and have some more extreme colour in it? I'm the opposite....nearly 31 and always been a mosher/metal head and now starting to feel like I need to tone it down.

Seren, I love that style! Tbh I like the edgier hair colors like grey and lilac tones. My hair is almost black atm and I'm quite pale, I'm wondering though if cooler styles are ok on a 30 something lol

Primitive, how about some 'slices' of colour scattered throughout the underside of your hair? Lilac would look cool with dark, but being underneath a bit more subtle unless your hair swished about. Also, you can't beat black skinny jeans and boots for a chic slightly alternative look :)

primitive I'm in my 30s, and have dressed in a mixture of goth/punk, cyber clothes for most of my adult life, and my DDs have the same issue with me and my clothes that your DD is having now, except in reverse.
They are so used to seeing me dressed like this, that if I go out in jeans, trainers and a tshirt, they say I don't look "normal" because my usual 'normal' is the opposite of that, IYSWIM.
Agree with PPs though, just changing overnight would probably be a quite drastic and expensive but there's no reason to not experiment with a few ideas and build from there if you find you like it.
I don't know where you live OP but if you really fancy a change, maybe search online to see if there's any alternative clothes shops near you? It would help you get an idea of what suits you, what you feel comfortable in, and the colours and cuts that suit your shape and size before parting with hard earned cash!

Also, this might be an idea if you're just starting to think about changing your look a bit- a good pair of boots, a necklace, and some red or black cherry lipstick can make almost any outfit have a goth feel to it

Early 30s??? I can't imagine thinking that's too old for anything like that - I think having kids earlier prob gives you a different perspective, but yes of course there are lots of women that age who think nothing of being edgy or alternative! Go for it!

OP, Pauley Perrette is 46 and still rocks the goth look! though I'm biased because she's my clothing inspiration haha
