To ask the nanny if she would like her own fridge / cuboard and seperate food

Hello,

We have had the same nanny for about two months. Its all going pretty well (third time lucky) and she is lovley and the our three children get on really well with her.

We eat a unprocessed / organic diet that is very healthy but I understand it is alien to most people who eat a "normal diet". I know that she has a normal diet and I don't judge her for that but she may be unconfortable with some of the food in our house and although we've said to just help herself to anything I dont think she realises that some of it is very expensive (she ate two packets of crackers that cost 8 pounds as a snack!).

Would it be offensive to get her her own fridge and cuboard space? She is not live in.

thanks

M

I do actually like those Himalayan salt lamps though.. Blush

notonyurjellybellynelly · 06/02/2016 02:05

Why are people so hung up on what others chose to spend their money on?

Granted the OP didn't come across well at all but for there then to be post after post knocking crackers at 4 pounds a box, as well as digs at other stuff that perhaps isn't found in the average shopping basket says more about those posters than it does about the OP.

The fact is that some people can afford to indulge their tastes more than others can and if they want to do so - so what?

The OP has shown herself to be a twat but so have lots of other posters.

Kytti · 06/02/2016 08:05

I wonder why you're on nanny number three?

Bahahahahahaaaaaaa!

notonyurjellybellynelly · 06/02/2016 08:35

I wonder why you're on nanny number three

Bahahahahahaaaaaaa

Perhaps for the most mundane of reasons.

Or can it only be for a suspicious reason because no one should have a nanny in the first place?

There are so many posters on this thread who seem to think that by indulging in reverse snobbery they're being ever so smart, yet once again their posts say way more about them than they do about the OP or anyone else who may have a nanny.

HopeClearwater · 06/02/2016 08:44

It's not reverse snobbery. It's people pointing out that the emperor has no clothes.

Lweji · 06/02/2016 08:57

Is right.
I'm certainly saying I wouldn't expect other people not to understand or like my food options. Certainly not a nanny. And wouldn't use it as an excuse to have a segregated food system at home to prevent my nanny from eating more expensive foods, while making her feel second class at my home.
It also says that I am highly sceptical about the health benefits of all this special salts and special food and I'm quite happy to explain why (albeit in a humourous fashion).
I've also pointed out to the OP where she went wrong in alienating MN. Quite frankly she sounds very close to a WUM.

harshbuttrue1980 · 06/02/2016 12:26

You would make your nanny feel like crap if you segregated her food. I think its fair enough for her to be able to help herself to what's in your cupboards, as she is feeding your children too. however, if anything is really expensive and you don't want her to eat it, can't you put it away somewhere else? i can see why she thought it was OK to eat crackers, but if you don't want her to have them then maybe you need to keep them separate.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 06/02/2016 12:45

I've got black salt and use it on caprese salad. Looks v attractive. Haven't figured out any other use for it. Limited market for application of black flakes on food really.

Lweji · 06/02/2016 12:50

Have you tried black pasta?

BarbaraofSeville · 06/02/2016 13:05

I've got some black pasta in my cupboard that I bought on holiday in Spain many years ago (I've just checked and the BBE date is in 2011).

I keep meaning to use in some sort of pasta and seafood dish but haven't yet got round to it, but this year's looking quite good because i'm on a bit of a use up mission and have used up all sorts of things that have been hanging round for ages. This afternoon I'm going to make a cake with marmalade with a BBE of October 2014.

I should add that I don't feed my cooking to any vulnerable people and everything is subject to the sniff and taste test before using. I had some of the marmalade on toast for breakfast and it was totally fine. It's got Whisky in it which probably acts as a preservative.

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 06/02/2016 13:56

I'm from 'up north' and have been 'down south' for about 15 years.

TBH I now shop at Waitrose we live in a village and it's the neatest supermarket by miles and I am now that cultured I say ice lolly rather than lolly ice!

Keep your crackers somewhere safe OP out of greedy nanny's mitts and then ask her if she'd like you to buy McCain microchips and walls ready baked sausages ( can you tell we didn't have an oven or hob for 8 weeks)

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/02/2016 15:08

either your nanny is allowed to help herself, or she isnt

you said she could, she did and now you are objecting to her eating 2 packets of crackers Hmm

yes they may cost 3.99 and thats your choice, but if you whole cupboard fridge is full of organic /unp food then probably anything nanny eats will be costly

intrigued what the other weird foods are

is there basic stuff like bread, pasta, potatos, rice, fruit.veg, ham, cheese that she can eat

mpje · 08/02/2016 09:46

I was going to give an update on this, not sure if most of you deserve it quite frankly.

What2 · 08/02/2016 09:49

Grin OP, you are probably right.

DurhamDurham · 08/02/2016 09:49

Go on.......you know you want to!!

Lweji · 08/02/2016 09:56

not sure if most of you deserve it quite frankly.

Or care.
People who do tend to post requests for updates.

Lweji · 08/02/2016 09:57

Why don't you send PMs to the deserving ones?

CatchIt · 08/02/2016 10:02

'I never heard of Pink Himalayan Salt before but I'm sure it makes all the difference to crackers.'

My mum bought some super expensive pink Himalayan salt with a grater once. I nearly fainted at the price, especially as I buy a huge block of it for my horse at about the 10th of the price!!

WutheringFrights · 08/02/2016 10:12

Best Himalayan pink salt product EVER just for info...

splendide · 08/02/2016 10:14

I'm not too fussed for an update but I'm keen to know what the uncomfortable food is.

aurynne · 08/02/2016 10:19

"she may be uncomfortable with some of the food in our house"

just ate a nice couple of bourbons buscuit... I think I paid 52p for the packet nom nom...

I think if you said is there anything you would like adding to the shopping list would be one thing but I think your issue is you said help yourself then object when she does...I imagine nothing in your house is cheap food.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 08/02/2016 10:57

If the nanny is busy, I would imagine that they need to sometimes need something quick to eat. I should imagine that a lot of the food you it doesn't lend itself to quick eating.
