To ask the nanny if she would like her own fridge / cuboard and seperate food

Hello,

We have had the same nanny for about two months. Its all going pretty well (third time lucky) and she is lovley and the our three children get on really well with her.

We eat a unprocessed / organic diet that is very healthy but I understand it is alien to most people who eat a "normal diet". I know that she has a normal diet and I don't judge her for that but she may be unconfortable with some of the food in our house and although we've said to just help herself to anything I dont think she realises that some of it is very expensive (she ate two packets of crackers that cost 8 pounds as a snack!).

Would it be offensive to get her her own fridge and cuboard space? She is not live in.

thanks

M

willowthewhispy I think everyone is being unreasonable, for making a simple question from the OP into a bitchfest

OP: I made a reasonable offer to my nanny. She took me up on it. I'm offended she took me up on the offer. Shall I make her feel like a second class citizen by offering to deman her by providing segregated facilities for her poor people food?

Posters: WTF?!

Hmm
BoGrainger · 05/02/2016 18:09

You said she maybe uncomfortable with your diet but I don't think that can be right as she obviously loves the crackers and is probably looking forward to box 3.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 05/02/2016 18:14

I think that since you both come from a similar culture, it should be easier to talk to her regarding what foods she prefers to eat normally

Hmm I appreciate that you've now explained that you mean British rather than northern, but Britain is actually very culturally diverse so it's a big leap to say OP and the nanny are from similar cultures based solely on geography.

Clearly.
The OP is organically cultured. But she assumes the nanny is intensively cultured and can't convert into organic, because it's too expensive and only good enough for the OP.

Us Northern lasses love a bit of cock, we do.

Especially if it's fancy schmancy organic Southern cock.

toffeeboffin · 05/02/2016 18:32

Anyone else reckon our beloved, downtrodden, disaffected nanny is actually reading this thread and howling?

I do so hope she is.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 05/02/2016 18:33

And unprocessed Wink

toffeeboffin · 05/02/2016 18:34

'

Cracker police got them, Greyponcho

Lweji · 05/02/2016 18:37

Probably cracked under pressure.
And felt really uncomfortable with the food.

toffeeboffin · 05/02/2016 18:40

'Probably cracked under pressure'

Oh no you didn't Lweji !

DrSeussRevived · 05/02/2016 18:50

"I'll be thinking of this thread next time I buy 6 packs of Quavers for a £"

8 kit Kat for £1 in Tesco right now...

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/02/2016 18:55

Thanks for the heads up DrSeuss but I don't eat Nestle chocolate :o

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/02/2016 19:55

Aspirational crackers has tickled me.

Op - don't say she can help herself if that isn't what you mean. Also, if money is tight maybe lay off buying £3.99 per packet crackers? Just an idea.

LovelyFriend · 05/02/2016 21:13

snafu I get them from the fancy organic health food shop. In London.

I've never been northern. I've only really ever driven through - unless a week in the Lake District counts.

LovelyFriend · 05/02/2016 21:15

Barbara we must start a campaign for Waitrose to stock them.

Crispbutty · 05/02/2016 21:24

Lidl do posh crackers for under a quid. With nice posh salt too...

Luisanna · 05/02/2016 21:35

Let the nanny have her own cupboard and fill it with the naice crackers, she likes clean crackers afterall Wink

What2 · 05/02/2016 21:35

The OPs crackers are more expensive than Waitrose lumpfish caviar.Grin

It does seem a lot for crackers.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 05/02/2016 21:48

You don't even have to move to London to buy overpriced posh crackers. We even have shops that sell fancy and expensive food up here in Newcastle. Granger market is increasingly full of aspirational food stuffs these days.

I don't think people are being unnecessarily mean on here. The OP really started out badly and hasn't moved beyond thinking her nanny must be too unsophisticated for her family's diet.

The being from the same culture points are quite hilarious. It doesn't make any difference where either party is from when the issue is that 'help yourself' really means 'don't eat anything expensive'.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/02/2016 21:59

Despite being on the less popular side of a large northern city that has been described on here as a grim shithole by people who have never been within 50 miles of the place we have a few naice farm shops and garden centres nearby that are the sort stock those crackers. I might have to go on a little mission at the weekend.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/02/2016 22:02

I mean the toast things. Not interested in the OPs crackers.

Ive been inspired by the other smug diet thread tonight to peruse the (truly hilarious) moon juice website. It really is the gift that keeps on giving. As well as overpriced crackers that look like they'll taste terrible, it has gems like this salt inhaler, which comes with... You've guessed it... Himalayan pink salt.

Grin
Lweji · 05/02/2016 23:34

It must be a huuuuuuuge salt mine down there by the Himalayas....
