AIBU....to give (as wedding favours), bags of flour.

I am getting married in a Windmill.

Same sex wedding (not that it matters).

Have hunted high and low for wedding favours.

I think a bag of flour from the mill, in a nice bag, with a recipe for an easy loaf, is ok.

Would you all make a face??

All you need is personalised labels on each bag and a table to put them on so guests can easily find them when they leave.

It sounds like a perfect wedding venue and a perfect memento. Can you encourage people to actually use it by organising a lighthearted competition of the best loaf photo afterwards?

YouMakeMyDreams · 04/02/2016 21:50

I love it. Even before I baked my own bread I would have given it a go because it's fab. Now I am capable of making a successful loaf.
A lot of our wedding was homemade purely because there is a lot of talent in both our families and everyone was keen to use it. Our favours were homemade jam. Bil made the jam sil dressed the jars. The tags doubled up as place settings. They all went home with people and most people got in contact after and praised it.

Great idea, also love MiddleEngland's suggestion of a bread competition.

Congratulations.

Lovely idea, and a windmill wedding sounds fantastic!

I agree with the people who say put the flour and recipe in a decent, strong bag.

Maybe even get the recipe printed onto a canvas bag? With your wedding details on the other side?

SaucyJack · 04/02/2016 22:00

It's a funky idea, but I think in practice very few people would actually end up lugging a bag of flour home and cooking with it.

Must you do favours? What about a corn dolly in the shape of the bride and bride?

WorraLiberty · 04/02/2016 22:02

A windmill wedding sounds amazing!

As for the flour, I just can't make up my mind? Confused

I think I'd probably prefer some biscuits made from it.

Me? I don't want much do I? Blush Grin

Catsize · 04/02/2016 22:03

Middle, you beat me to it. Drat.
OP, it is a great idea, but I would probably do it as a leaving gift, like a grown up party bag - no need to carry around then and they won't be forgotten.
I trust that the table centres (if any) will be windmills? Like those gaudy children's plastic ones?

ManneryTowers · 04/02/2016 22:06

Or windmill clocks that all chime the hour during the reception and the little miller comes out of the top?

I love this idea.

I had my wedding in a fruit barn and made mini pots of jam with lovely covers for guests to take home.

Janeymoo50 · 04/02/2016 22:19

Ok, great, but literally the flour is just enough to make one loaf. My girlfriend works in a home for young adults who might move onto living by themselves. The flour would never go to waste. In case anyone is interested..... It's Willesborough Windmill.

Yes, if its the exact amount of flour and a recipe.

whois · 04/02/2016 22:21

Actually yeah, if you did each flour bag in a separate paper bag with a big name tag and a little sachet of salt and yeast, then the bags could be easily retrieved on the way out.

You could have a #weddingflour thing go on afterwards with all your friends posting photos of the things they have made with the flour.

Jux · 04/02/2016 22:32

I'd love it. I'd put it on the table, partly so I wouldn't forget it when I left. Yes, I would make the loaf, too.

Great idea. Have a happy wedding, congratulations!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/02/2016 22:39

Love this idea.

I must be old too because the idea of throwing flour did not even occur to me Grin

Chewbecca · 04/02/2016 22:40

Love it and would def use it & reminise about you & the fab day whilst eating my loaf

RainOhJoyus · 04/02/2016 22:40

I think its absolutely lovely! Maybe make people's lives easier by using them as the name tags, or adding their names, so people can store them somewhere and take there's home, or put them all on a table and people can find their name to take home at the end of the night.

DonkeyOaty · 04/02/2016 22:43

It's a Yes from me.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 04/02/2016 22:43

great idea.

name tags brilliant.

Sadmum19 · 04/02/2016 22:46

Just had a peak at the venue and it's wonderful. I'd love a bag of their flour to take from your wedding. Have a fabulous day!

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 04/02/2016 22:48

Just save your money, and don't get any wedding favours

BumWad · 04/02/2016 22:49

I think it's a brilliant isea

Catsize · 04/02/2016 22:50

Put a sachet of yeast in too.

tinofbiscuits · 04/02/2016 22:50

It's a lovely idea.

Grilledaubergines · 04/02/2016 22:51

Lovely idea OP. Very original and fitting to the venue.

Although my thoughts on it have been sidelined by the concept of adults, having been inviting to share in a couple's wedding celebrations, throwing flour. Really, do people behave so badly?
