AIBU....to give (as wedding favours), bags of flour.

I am getting married in a Windmill.

Same sex wedding (not that it matters).

Have hunted high and low for wedding favours.

I think a bag of flour from the mill, in a nice bag, with a recipe for an easy loaf, is ok.

Would you all make a face??

I'd love it, and would happily scoop up any leftovers.

Aquiver · 04/02/2016 21:26

That's a lovely idea! And congratulations Thanks

My only concern would be the size/weight of the flour favours - I always take a tiny clutch bag to weddings and wouldn't want to heft a bag of flour about all night! I suspect quite a few bags would be forgotten or left behind because of this, resulting in waste Sad

Could you perhaps use the flour to bake some bread rolls to have with the meal or cakes to add to any cake/dessert table?

To be honest, favours are really not necessary if the whole idea is causing you any stress - small and edible during the day is definitely the way to go.

susurration · 04/02/2016 21:26

Love this idea!

Xmasbaby11 · 04/02/2016 21:27

No I don't think it's a good idea. Not many people make bread do they? Favours should be something small you can eat or use at the wedding not lug home.

AlwaysHopeful1 · 04/02/2016 21:28

I would love this! Especially along with the recipe, it's a fab and unusual idea.

HairySubject · 04/02/2016 21:29

I think it is a lovely idea but really not practical. I would get fed up of carrying it around with me and after a few drinks it will probably get left somewhere.

RedOnHerHedd · 04/02/2016 21:30

I would love that too, it's really personal to your day.
And congratulations btw. Have a fabulous day Smile

Minniemagoo · 04/02/2016 21:30

we are old, we don't throw flour

Oh bless you Jane I LOL'D at that
In that case fire ahead, I second the idea of a nicely printed recipe (which guests could have as a longer keepsake)
Enjoy your day

Neverpolishghillies · 04/02/2016 21:30

Really lovely idea, I would be really pleased to be given that.

MisForMumNotMaid · 04/02/2016 21:31

Could you use the flour bag favours as the guest place setting too(or label them with a fancy luggage type tag message and their name) that way guests could be reunited with their bag of flour when they are ready to leave.

kelper · 04/02/2016 21:32

That sounds like a lovely idea, I would love that! I went to a wedding where the favours were small jars of chutney, that was awesome!

lazyarse123 · 04/02/2016 21:33

Sounds a lovely idea, could you put them on a table near the door so everyone could take one when they go. Problem solved.

Ughnotagain · 04/02/2016 21:33

In all honesty, I wouldn't bother. If someone gave me a bag of flour I wouldn't really be that keen on taking it home. If there were no favours at all I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

WhereTheFuckIsWonderWoman · 04/02/2016 21:38

I love this idea 😄 I'm not a bread maker but wouldn't hesitate to make a loaf out of favour flour and then be too sentimental to eat it

Bluetrews25 · 04/02/2016 21:39

Great idea, and put them on a table to pick up on way home as PP suggested......I'd be the last to leave and hoover up the leftovers!

Stellar67 · 04/02/2016 21:40

Brilliant. I have a plan for a yeast starter already if I ever get flour at a wedding. It'll go on forever.

I get sentimental over anything.

Janeymoo50 · 04/02/2016 21:40

Wow, what a great range of responses, all taken onboard. Thanks MN.

It's a lovely idea :)

Silvercatowner · 04/02/2016 21:42

I'm fairly sure our weevil infestation came from a bag of flour we bought in a windmill. The infestation was only completely fixed when we ripped out the weevly kitchen and installed a new one. I'm afraid I'd spend the wedding permanently itching and trying to avoid the flour.

SushiAndTheBanshees · 04/02/2016 21:44

Lovely idea - but unless it came with all the hits and pieces to make bread (yeast, salt, sugar etc) I think I might end up not using it. Could you make up a full kit?

Congratulations, on both the marriage and what sounds like a lovely wedding!

Caboodle · 04/02/2016 21:46

Actually, the only U here is that we are all not invited to what sounds like a lovely day Grin

leghoul · 04/02/2016 21:47

can I come Grin

ManneryTowers · 04/02/2016 21:48

It's a lovely idea! But YY to adding sachet of salt and yeast with it. Plus I'm also imagining neat little cloth bags of flour with a nice label, not 1.5kg paper bags of the stuff? Add a recipe for 'easy' bread (Paul Hollywood does a 45 minute flatbread) and more people are likely to take one? Also agree with leaving them by the door on exit. If you do that probably only provide one per couple instead of one each.

abbsismyhero · 04/02/2016 21:48

im gluten intolerant but i still think its a great idea Grin

Pointlessfan · 04/02/2016 21:48

I'd love it. Perhaps attach a recipe for bread or something. What an amazing wedding venue. Enjoy your day.
