Nothing is being done about it.

A few weeks age a school mum was hit by this lady in her car- the driver was looking down, music blaring and she was lighting a fag, she clipped a woman who was waiting to get into her car- dragging her down the road for a few meters when she then fell to the side of the road. The driver panicked and drove off returning about ten minutes later. Myself and some other parents helped the woman who was hit and said we would be witnesses. The hit lady then had a very heated conversation with the driver.

Turns out the lady was pleading with the other because she had no insurance and explained that's why she drove off.

The mum is driving recklessly still and has not been stopped. I have reported her to the police and then have said they will get a PCSO to come down to the school and still nothing. Other parents have complained to the school who in turn have said it is not a school matter so they cannot become involved.

Is there any further I can take this? I'm bloody cross, what if she hits a child next time? There is a rumour that is unsubstantiated that this lady does not even have a licence. If I did this I'd not get away with it. I pay tax, insurance, to service my car.

Fuming!

I have hobbies thanks.

You sound more self righteous than I- take your own advice perhaps and trot off this thread. Hypocrite much?

YaNBU

I am surprised the women who got hurt does not want to take it further. Is she scared of the driver woman.

I think you should not forget about it and I think what you are doing takes time and guts so good on you.

The women driving should hang her head in shame if she continues to drive in an untaxed, unsinsured car. I don't care what her circumstances are.

www.rac.co.uk/insurance/car-insurance/how-to-report-an-uninsured-car

Incidentally why are fines for being uninsured/untaxed lower than the cost of tax/insurance? No wonder so many people don't bother, hardly a detterant.

Yes Evil- when I get by renewal letter in a few months time, perhaps I'll just throw away the latter and drive uninsured- I'll save a fortune, can buy myself some extra fags and Grouse.

bloody hell solid what is your problem? If someone is driving uninsured and you know then you should report it - if they hit a child outside that school then how do you think OP would feel knowing that woman should not have been on the road? How the hell would you feel if it happened to you or your kids and as the driver has no insurance you cannot claim any medical costs/damages etc off them?
Shocked you think someone should butt out of an issue like this! Your all for uninsured drivers i take it then?
bloody i would ring the station and report exactly what you know - that she declared herself its uninsured and its showing as not taxed and give them the reg and advise them she is driving past a school twice a day and you are concerned, let them take it from there. A letter will take longer and may not get to the correct department, just call you can do it anonymously too if thats an issue. The sooner this twonk is off the road the better

evilcherub · 05/02/2016 11:48

Bloody - you are doing the right thing. I can't believe anyone would not be worried about someone driving around without tax and insurance, especially after they have hit someone and especially around a school where there are kids. On second thoughts, Bloody, how dare you attempt to stop someone continually breaking the law and continuing to put the lives of others in danger. You need to go back to being insular and only caring about yourself Wink. If she knocks over a kid it's not your problem so stop interfering Hmm.

Grapejuicerocks · 05/02/2016 11:48

I would want to know why the police aren't taking action. This is a serious matter. The op isn't concerned just for herself. This is on behalf of anyone who may be unfortunate enough to be the woman's next victim. Thank you op.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2016 11:49

SolidGoldBrass Are you the uninsured driver of the untaxed car who hit a pedestrian outside a school and drove off? You sound unnecessarily defensive about her behaviour.

TheWordOfBagheera · 05/02/2016 11:52

Does it actually matter that she doesn't want the police involved? There are kids getting in this car every day. Perhaps you could contact the police, explain what you saw, but say that the hit-and-run victim refuses to be identified. It's up to them then? I don't know though. It's an awkward position for you to be in.

Birdsgottafly · 05/02/2016 11:54

"How is a parent driving recklessly a school matter? I""

Because it's a Safeguarding issue and that Parent is collecting/taking the children to the school acting illegally and putting the other Parents/Children at risk.

Medwaymumoffour · 05/02/2016 12:02

I know someone who was hit by a car at very low speed as the driver pulled into park. Victim got 60,000k compensation for a totally innocent accident.

Police was on the secne in minutes. Even though it was innocent so many people called emergency services

Birdsgottafly · 05/02/2016 12:03

I also wonder if there hadn't of been witnesses, would she have returned to the scene?

To drive off and think you don't have to report hitting someone, is extremely callous.

Sunnybitch · 05/02/2016 12:16

I was just thinking that soupdragon Hmm

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 05/02/2016 12:27

Its SGB's usual posting style. Sometimes she is spot on with in highlighting unreasonable or petty behaviour and sometimes she spectacularly misses the point. I think this thread falls into the latter category for me.

GruntledOne · 05/02/2016 12:33

Solid, this is a driver who has already had at least one incident when she knocked someone over in the vicinity of a school. She is driving her children in a car with bald tyres, which by any standards is dangerous to her, her children and other road users. I really don't understand why you think this shouldn't be stopped, let alone why you're so vitriolic about it. As for her contacting the victim - did you not read upthread where a number of people were advising that she should do exactly that? Or do you assume that this woman is also shagging their partners?

BloodyLary · 05/02/2016 12:41

It catches in my throat when someone uses that as an attack, almost as much as when someone says "she needs a good shag".

Anyway, I'm straying. I'm torn between wanting to justify every point I've made on this thread to SG and then thinking- hmmm nope she can think what she likes the shiny shites will not be given today. The latter is stronger.

OP posts:
Obs2016 · 05/02/2016 12:43

This a hit and run and the police should have been called immediately.

BloodyLary · 05/02/2016 17:30

Yes Obs, my bad.

OP posts:
SolidGoldBrass · 05/02/2016 19:07

You know, the fact that no one saw fit to dial 999 at the time, coupled with the person who got hit by the car not wanting to take it any further, added to the fact that OP keeps on finding 'and another thing!' to add... these are the reasons why I think OP may well be exaggerating and shit-stirring. The rest of you, do bear in mind that you weren't there, so have no idea what might have actually happened.
It's also possible that the woman has been charged with some offence or other and is awaiting a court date - there is no reason this would be disclosed to the neighbourhood vigilante.

Oh, and if any of you decide that I must be a dangerous driver with an uninsured car, and want to play VI Warshawski and hunt me down to report me then feel free...

(I don't drive and have never owned a car.)

Redbindippers101 · 05/02/2016 19:16

So SGB:
if you've never owned a car, why are you so defensive about a potential murderer who does own a car and has no compunction about driving it at other people.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2016 19:18

do bear in mind that you weren't there, so have no idea what might have actually happened.

Perhaps you should take your own advice rather than ranting.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2016 19:19

Let's just hope that you aren't ever hit by a dangerous uninsured driver.

Woodhill · 05/02/2016 20:19

exactly well said soup
