Couldn't believe it yesterday afternoon before a meeting I had ½ HR to kill so had a mooch in enormous boots store.

I was having a good look at make up and next to me a girl caught my eye as she fully did her eye makeup - including liquid eyeliner with edge with non - testers.

At the point she put the liquid eyeliner back I asked her if she seriously was going to put that back not buy it having had right around her eye. She stammered and said she was going to buy it. I asked why she's shoved it back into the holder then, fished it out handed it to her and told her it was disgusting to do that and she might have red eye. She looked really fucked off stormed off - more annoying were two members of staff with their backs To us chatting with each other and paying no attention...

How does someone think this is OK

It def WAS NOT the tester - she took wrapper off .... wibu?

Absolutely not, that's disgusting. The product is no longer saleable either. Gross.

cantgonofurther · 04/02/2016 08:16

Isn't it stealing? No one is going to buy make up with the wrapper off.

vintagesewingmachine · 04/02/2016 08:16

How revolting. YANBU. What she did was effectively theft. Well done for shaming her!

ChessieFL · 04/02/2016 08:18

Yanbu. I would have felt the same as you but wouldn't have had the guts to say anything to her!

cowbag1 · 04/02/2016 08:19

I once saw someone do a whole face of make up with Bourjois testers in Boots. Gross.

PolovesTubbyCustard · 04/02/2016 08:26

Hah! Yes.

Just last week I saw someone 'test' mascara. On both eyes.

This was in Superdrug.

Much of the make up on the displays look used. Opened and damaged.

I only buy items that have a seal.

Oh, a little while back saw someone in there brushing her hair, then put the brush back on the display.

Buyer beware.

Yuk

Outaboutnowt · 04/02/2016 08:34

This is why I don't actually 'test' with testers! Grim.
YANBU

Helenluvsrob · 04/02/2016 08:39

grim. I would have handed the opened product to the SA and suggest she needed to remove it from sale now as well

Orangeanddemons · 04/02/2016 08:40

I find quite often in Boots there are no testers available. Then when you ask, no one seems to have a clue about the,. It drives me insane! Surely they check the testers every morning, but it appears they don't....

OutWithTheDogs · 04/02/2016 08:41

Yuk, that's gross. Ywnbu

GloGirl · 04/02/2016 08:47

That is stealing. And vommity.

But I do know someone who wanted to try a bottle of fizzy drink, opened it and took a sip and then put it back on the shelf and walked off Envy

Only1scoop · 04/02/2016 08:50

Grim isn't it

Years ago I worked on a cosmetic counter in a department store. I used to catch people actually using lipstick directly on their lips. They didn't like being told not to.

Probably the same mingers who would buy the two cheapest products on gift with purchase, and bring it back saying they had suffered a reaction. Never used to bring the gift back. Strange that.

thekingfisher · 04/02/2016 08:52

Glad you all agree ianbu !

What's "red eye" Confused

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 04/02/2016 08:56

Totally unreasonable of the girl. Used to work in a shop similar to Boots, this sort of behaviour drove staff spare. It's awful, same with spraying non-tester deodrants as well. If it's not a tester, it's not to be used - why are some people too dim to understand that?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/02/2016 08:59

I got a jar of face cream once which admittedly hadn't checked in the shop. It opened more easily than I expected and plum in the middle was a nice big thumb print. Lovely.

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/02/2016 09:05

So we're talking about someone going into a store, opening a sealed product, using it and leaving it?!

startingmylifeagain · 04/02/2016 09:06

YADNBU

Revolting behaviour. This is why I get a bit funny when choosing cosmetics. I always go for the one right at the back. Lol

Marniasmum · 04/02/2016 09:08

Aren't they usually tamper-evident so it would be apparent to any other would-be buyer that it was used. Therefore, unless you work for Boots or own shares, I can think of no reason why you think it is your place to go round harassing their customers.

Headmelt · 04/02/2016 09:11

Yanbu. This seems to have become a 'thing' around here too. I noticed a group of girls using the deodorants and perfumes on themselves in a shop recently. I was a bit ShockHmm. I have seen women using makeup too but had presumed they were using testers.

GoringBit · 04/02/2016 09:12

Puppy I think red eye is conjunctivitis (also known as pink eye) which is very easily transmitted.

OP YANBU, well done on pulling her up on it, maybe she'll think twice before doing it again.

GoringBit · 04/02/2016 09:14

...harassing other customers...

Hmm
Pointlessfan · 04/02/2016 09:16

Vile! Well done for saying something.
The only thing I would test (with a proper tester) is perfume.

Headmelt · 04/02/2016 09:17

On thinking about this, all those baskets of makeup products 'on sale' by the till in our local pharmacies are probably the products left over from people using the new products as testers rather than buying them afterwards.

HTKB · 04/02/2016 09:18

My mum believes that some Twiglets are burned and some are nicely cooked. So in the supermarket she will open a packet, taste one and decide whether they are acceptable or not. If they are she will then put them back and then find another packet with that batch number on to buy. If not then she continues opening packets to taste them. I do not enter the crisp aisle with her now!
