To be upset with this practitioner

This probably isn't an AIBU really.
Just looking for help and advice. I have come up against a local alternative practitioner who is touting for business on a local FB page implying she can treat autoimmune disorders. I asked questions and she became really defensive. I know I should step away, but as a life-long sufferer of an autoimmune disorder who lives this shit day in and day out, it really upsets me to see someone make these claims with no medical background.
I think I am taking it personally but I don't understand how she can do this and locally people support her.

I think I need some perspective. AIBU to be so furious with this stuff.

Ah ffs. My brother has an autoimmune condition - it's controlled with drugs and science, not woo. The trouble with these woo merchants is that the danger that someone will be desperate or gullible enough to drop medication in favour of the healing power of crystals or whatever.

I've nothing against alternative medicines used as a supplement to conventional medications mind you - it can make people feel better and may genuinely help. This is why my arthritic dog has a magnet on his collar. But he has proper medication from the vet too!

I live in part of the world where the bullshit quotient is high.

California or Totnes? Wink

Ah no! Different altogether. She insists there is scientific evidence for her practice. :(

Does she now? Cue your post to her saying "Oh that's great to hear. Would you mind putting up the links to that research for us? It will be so interesting to read!" Kill with kindness, Thingiebob!

YANBU to pull her up on it, I hate these fuckers. I'm part of a support group for my autoimmune illness and they even join the group falsely so they can peddle their wares - no shame! Angry

I like the science based medicine website as a refuge from all of the woo bolleaux. They're pretty good at addressing unthinking practices in 'normal' medicine too and the comment section can be a hoot.

I am rubbish at linking on the phone otherwise I'd find the 'what's the harm' website and link it. It explains and gives examples of how seemingly harmless woo shite causes problem because some people are basically dicks.
