Not a TAAT but triggered by a thread about some elderly people having opinions that we find quite shocking and offensive now.

What opinions do you think we have that will have our grandchildren and great grandchildren gasping and pearl clutching? :)

I wish I was optimistic as you lot! I think things are going to be worse, not better- I can imagine people in 50 years asking why we used to let poor people have as many children as they wanted and why we would have welcomed refugees into the country Sad

SilverDragonfly1 · 03/02/2016 17:41

I also think people will be astonished that we didn't embrace genetic engineering much earlier to fix potential disabilities and chronic illnesses. I don't know how I feel about that.

bumbleymummy · 03/02/2016 17:44

pushing up there's already progress with reversing grey hair and growing new teeth :) it's fascinating.

On that note, I don't think we will need people to donate organs because we will be able to grow then their own new ones. Same with limbs. :)

people will be astonished that we didn't embrace genetic engineering much earlier to fix potential disabilities and chronic illnesses.

Or what were we thinking in leading up to it (think atomic bombs).

It could go either way.

SilverDragonfly1 · 03/02/2016 17:51

lweji Agreed!

allegretto · 03/02/2016 17:51

That people with limited skills and liable to be distracted were allowed to drive great heavy hunks if metal so close to pedestrians.
That it was acceptable and even desirable to change your appearance and even sex by going under the knife.

suzannecaravaggio · 03/02/2016 17:57

anti ageing procedures will advance considerably...there will be no need to go under the knife as non surgical options will give results which are far superior

the desire to look young/ attractive wont go away and the bar will be raised as those who can afford it will look much 'fresher' than those who dont.

I agree that the idea of a human being in control of a car will seem as dangerous as riding a motor bike blind drunk without a crash helmet

suzannecaravaggio · 03/02/2016 17:59

I think we will discover that donor organs have all sorts of negative long term consequences and I agree that will will grow organs instead

CornishDoll82 · 03/02/2016 17:59

Phrases like 'man up' and 'he's completely mental'

Ericaequites · 03/02/2016 18:04

The current fad in gentle parenting that leads to spoilt, ungovernable children will be gone. People will return to punishing and scolding because it works.

People will stop excess sharing on Facebook. Yes, your life happens even if you don't post.

EastMidsMummy · 03/02/2016 18:04

I think we will look back in 100 years, amazed that people used "text" in the past tense.

suzannecaravaggio · 03/02/2016 18:07

Facebook?
that'll be long gone:o

telepathy via implants which will replace mobile phones
brains will be hacked

suzannecaravaggio · 03/02/2016 18:08

texting will be as out of date as writing on papyrus

AbbyCadabby · 03/02/2016 18:13

Oh, andrewofgg. "And if we eat more vegetable food we will need to kill more pests (the wrong animals in the wrong place) to grow enough crops to feed ourselves, so there's no need for all you vegetarians and vegans out there to feel smug."
Er, no. What do you think we feed the animals? That's right - plants. So the insects are still getting killed, only MORE SO, because it takes far more plants to build up a cow ready for slaughter than it does for a vegan just to eat the plants directly.

Everyone needs to watch Cowspiracy. It is free on Netflix. A real eye-opener.

We ARE moving towards veganism. Killing animals for human greed is unnecessary, cruel, bad for the planet, and not good for human health.
nutritionfacts.org/ is a great resource - the Doc has lots of videos about diet and health. YOU may not change, but the next generation are aware and care.

MitzyLeFrouf · 03/02/2016 18:17

We're not moving towards veganism.

I'll meet you back here in 40 years and we'll see who's right.

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2016 18:19

My 16 and 14 year olds are in no way moving towards Veganism.

OTheHugeManatee · 03/02/2016 18:21

Unsurprisingly, this thread is now full of people predicting that history will vindicate their hobby horses particular topics of interest.

AlanPacino · 03/02/2016 18:24

Flying will be more for necessity with less people taking foreign holidays. More people who could do their job from home will.

bumbleymummy · 03/02/2016 18:24

There are definitely more vegetarians around than there were 20/30 years ago. More people are conscious of animal welfare too. I don't think the world we go vegan but I do think there will be far less meat produced and consumed and yes, people will probably eat more bugs Envy

OP posts:
AlanPacino · 03/02/2016 18:25

Oh and less church attendance and less belief in an interested deity.

AbbyCadabby · 03/02/2016 18:26

If the diseases rife in non-vegans haven't killed you off early, Mitzy, it's a date.

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2016 18:28

Out of all the people I know in RL nobody is vegan and one is vegetarian.

Lookoutapiano · 03/02/2016 18:29

I think the poor treatment of the Syrian refugees will go down in history.

AbbyCadabby · 03/02/2016 18:29

Not just from an animal rights' perspective, bumbley. The health impacts of meat and dairy are known, and knowledge is spreading. Soon, we will view meat and dairy as deathly as we do cigarettes and alcohol.
The planet can't take much more of it either.

suzannecaravaggio · 03/02/2016 18:33

meat for mass consumption will be grown in a lab and genetically engineered to prevent negative health consequences

I am vegetarian and dislike meat but I can see that, on average, humans enjoy meat too much to give it upWink
