AIBU to arrive on time

Recently started a new job and generally get in at around 8:20 because nursery doesn't open until 8. We should all be on site by 8:40.

Surely it isn't unreasonable to get in twenty minutes early? I have had a few comments now and am starting to feel a bit pecked about it.

As long as you getting there at that time doesn't have any implications on them that's fine. If they have to set things up for you because otherwise you wouldn't be ready that is different. You perhaps just need to explain your childcare issues which mean you can't there any earlier so they stop making comments!

Tell them to piss off. If you're supposed to be on site at 8:40, you could arrive with 5 seconds to spare and still be on time, the bunch of tools.

I'd looked puzzled and say 'What exactly do YOU think my hours are? Because I'm 20 minutes early' And leave it at that!

Presenteeism is bollocks. Half the people who get in earlier will be making drinks, gossiping or pissing about on the internet.

How are they better employees than someone who spends less time at work but gets the same, or more done?

As long as you are doing everything that you should be, what grounds do they have for you to come in even earlier than your start time.
