I think you know you are being irrational.

The chances of something bad happening ing are slim to none. Try and take your mind off it (easier said than done I know).

Nothing bad is going to happen. And if it is, you can't stop it. So I would just try and relax. Maybe do something brain zapping all day?

Gobbolino6 · 01/02/2016 07:02

Hello, I have anxiety disorder and I often feel like this. Do you have anything similar?

TheDowagerCuntess · 01/02/2016 07:02

Well, you probably can't stop it.

But how can you be so certain that something bad is going to happen?

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 01/02/2016 07:03

Chin up LEM.

It'll be OK, you know that really. It's just the niggles niggling. Flowers

Ledkr · 01/02/2016 07:03

BastardGoDarkly · 01/02/2016 07:05

I get that feeling
You need to employ your coping strategies to calm yourself and take your mind off the thoughts.

notquitegrownup2 · 01/02/2016 07:11

Sending sympathy. It is a horrible feeling, but it is the anxiety talking, not a prediction of what it to come.

Remember the anxiety/adrenaline you are experiencing is because you love and care for your family. It is a positive feeling, which is being channelled via the anxiety, but it is really a sign of that love and desire to protect them. Hang onto the positive, and then think about what you can do to get rid of this adrenaline, which has you in fight or flight mode. You can't fight, of course, because you don't know what might be coming, and you can't fly either, cause you are at home with your family! However, you can try to take yourself for a walk and some fresh air today, you can book yourself some be-kind-to-LEM duvet time, and you could book a GPs appointment to review those meds.

HTH. Thinking of you

Goingtobeawesome · 01/02/2016 07:18

I often get feelings of doom so I understand.

Does your DD have everything she needs today with a back up plan if things fail? It might help you feel better if you have a contingency plan.

I'm really low today. Feel in the verge of tears. Haven't worked out how I'll deal with it yet but if you want to just post I'll reply - school run allowing.

I hope it is a good day for you.

Snoopadoop · 01/02/2016 07:20

I occasionally feel this way... It's horrible. The only way I find out of it is to totally distract myself. Find something that will absorb me totally so I can't think.

Hope you feel better soon.

FellOutOfBedTwice · 01/02/2016 07:25

Another suffering of anxiety and I often feel these feelings of doom. They're horrible but nonsense. Please, do something absorbing to take your mind off of it.

IDismyname · 01/02/2016 07:27

I occasionally have this feeling, too.
Try and keep yourself busy today, with stuff that takes mind space. Go and meet a friend, food shopping, or start researching something really complicated and absorbing.

I'm sure it will all be fine. Come back and let us know.

PurportedFeminist · 01/02/2016 07:45

Is it windy where you are? The wind can give things an edgy feel sometimes.

lougle · 01/02/2016 07:50

How are you now, LEM? I often worry about people I love dying in accidents....I think it's that with the news being so accessible, it makes accidents seem really very common. Almost inevitable. When in fact, it's not common at all. Similarly, I work in critical care and that makes very serious illness seem common, when it isn't. I don't think it would hurt to be kind to yourself and ask your DH to send you a text when he gets to work, etc.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/02/2016 08:07

not great. keep retching but have to do school run

allegretto · 01/02/2016 08:11

Something bad happens everyday but the feeking that it is definitely going to hapoen to you is the anxiety talking. Trust me.

SonjasSister7 · 01/02/2016 08:41

Can you go for a run/bike ride/visit gym? When I feel like this I find I can really push it and get great times! But more to the point, I feel so much better afterwards.

Gobbolino6 · 01/02/2016 09:10

I really do have sympathy, I know how horrible this is, but it really is just the anxiety talking.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/02/2016 09:12

sonja i might go for a run - need to take some paracetamol first as my backs hurting but yes i think i need a run.

OP posts:
Seriouslyffs · 01/02/2016 09:20

Look after yourself lovely!
A run is a great idea. Keep hydrated, and avoid coffee. What else do you have to do today? Can you keep busy to distract you?

FairiesAreReal · 01/02/2016 09:24

Your rational mind knows that it is not possible to tell the future. You cannot possibly know something bad is going to happen, it is your anxiety talking. Try and ignore it - go for a run and I bet you will feel 100% better.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 01/02/2016 09:39

I completely understand this feeling. The recent ISIS threats make me feel like this, often. Please be kind to yourself.
