So just out of interest who gets the item here?

This is now resolved but just out of interest...

Shop has a large and high value item on a marked down price due to it being ex display.

Customer 1 goes over to the till to ask about it. Dithers for a bit. Doesn't place the order. Goes back over to have a look to help her decide whether to go for it or not.

In the meantime customer 2 comes to a different till and asks to purchase the item. Till operator 2 goes to get the bar code from the item.

Customer 1 then goes to the first till and says yes Ive decided I will go for it please. Till operator 1 also then walks over to get the bar code and meets Till operator 2 coming back with it.

Who gets the item customer 1 because she asked about it first or customer 2 because she actually confirmed that she wanted to purchase first?

Place your bets.

Did you get it?

wowfudge · 31/01/2016 17:29

Had I been customer 1, I would have simply backed down as the assistant helping customer 2 had the barcode first.

ArmfulOfRoses · 31/01/2016 17:29

Customer 1 didn't ask for it first, they asked about it first.

BinaryFinary · 31/01/2016 17:30

You snooze you lose

What was it? (Nosy)

passmethewineplease · 31/01/2016 17:30

Customer 2.

Groovee · 31/01/2016 17:30

Customer 2. Customer one should have dithered. Did you get it?

*not have dithered

redhat · 31/01/2016 17:31

Customer 1 got it.

I was customer 2. The shop manager went to view the CCTV to decide and said that although there was no sound on the CCTV they did see that customer 1 went up to the till first (ignoring the fact that she only enquired about it and then went away to look at the item again.) The fact that customer 2 (me Grin) was stood at till 2 waiting for the assistant to come back when when customer 1 went to back to her till and said I've decided to go for it was completely ignored.

So I didn't get the item Sad Which meant I had to buy it full price which cost me another £150. But I feel better knowing the vast majority think I was in the right and should have had it Grin.

went to cctv
Never knew shopping entailed photo finishes like horse racing!

Nanasueathome · 31/01/2016 17:31

I would say customer 2 should have the item
Put us out of our misery and tell us the outcome

Tirfarthoin · 31/01/2016 17:32

Customer 2 should have got it

Nanasueathome · 31/01/2016 17:32

Sorry, just seen your update
What was the item?

SoleBizzz · 31/01/2016 17:33

See I am correct.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/01/2016 17:33

Oh that's bad luck OP, it's a shame you didn't get it.

MaisyMooMoo · 31/01/2016 17:36

I wouldn't be happy with that OP, do they have a head office you can complain too. As a goodwill gesture they should discount it for you. Idiots.

Tirfarthoin · 31/01/2016 17:37

Unsportsmanlike of number 1, they should have backed down.

redhat · 31/01/2016 17:37

It was rather annoying and had I thought there was any doubt at all that I was first I would have backed down.

It was a treadmill. Most annoying thing was that it was a very large and very well known chain and they didn't so much as offer me a £5 gift voucher or anything by way of apology.

Ah well you win some you lose some!

Birdsgottafly · 31/01/2016 17:39

You should have got it, based on the explanation by the assistant serving 1.

I'd complain to head office, if you can return what you've bought, you might get the discount.

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 31/01/2016 17:39

must be 2 seeing as everyone else has said it

RebootYourEngine · 31/01/2016 17:40

I would write to them and complain.

Seeing as you asked to buy it first you should have been given it. Or they could have given you both the item for the same price rather than make you pay full price.

What was the item anyway?

londonrach · 31/01/2016 17:41

2

DoreenLethal · 31/01/2016 17:42

If I was Customer 2 and hadn't got it, I'd never have paid the full price. I'd have walked away and written a letter of complaint.

Potatoface2 · 31/01/2016 17:42

it went to cctv to decide lol

redhat · 31/01/2016 17:43

I did walk away and haven't purchased it yet because I was a bit cross. But I was about to order it online.

Might actually wrote to Argos and see what happens. It's worth a shot given that the difference is £150.
