To refuse to go to Highcross shopping Leicester

I've only been there twice and both times some alarm goes off and it does this

"Attention Please! Attention Please! An incident has been reported within the building, please listen for further announcements" making us all want to run out and scream whilst being told not to, and it does this about ten times before changing and saying:

"Attention Please! Attention Please! There is an emergency within the building. Please evacuate immediately!"

Yeah hardly the worlds biggest problem however it's just so scary because the voice makes it sound like you're gonna get bombed

Anybody else ever had this?

I live about twenty minutes away from Leicester so have been shopping there quite a few times and have never experienced this.

Lived in Leicester for 34 years and never had that. Bit jealous really

I often go to Highcross and I have never heard this.

Oh it must just be Sod's law for me then.

It was horrible at the time but looking back it was quite funny everybody's reactions but it's just so much nicer to go elsewhere so I don't have to include extra time for incase the alarm goes off

That is pretty much what our work fire alarm says - only it sometimes says "fire has been reported in the building. Please stay at your desk and await further announcements". Er...... No???!

We don't visit often but the alarms gone off/ centre evacuated at least 50% of the time

Haha scarednoob because I was so shocked at what had happened the first time I did just do as the mysterious speaker man said but second time I was out in about three seconds after the first attention please

I've been in Highcross a lot, but never had this, you must have been really unlucky.

You know I'm sure I must have a thing with fire alarms if this has only happened to me because I went into Iceland the other day and it happened about a month ago in Dunelm Mill.

God forbid I go to IKEA and my curse follows me

I've had this happen before on a weekday morning. I think it only seems to happen on weekday mornings for some reason.

Yes, I know the alarm you mean. It's a really spookily calm man with a horrid alarm that sounds like it's alerting a holiday camp to nuclear fallout.

What do the staff do whilst this is going on? If they don't seem alarmed in any way and you've gone there on the same day/ times perhaps it's a test that sometimes goes out of control and goes on for too long? Ours does that at work sometimes.

Visited a lot....never heard it

The staff just seem to stand there in shock amazement and amusement until the actual evacuation creepy man begins.

I live in Leicester, not surprised to hear this, it would have been some stupid drill. I swear they have nowt better to do

the day after the Tunisia attack last year i was in there with 2 of my DC. the alarm started going off, with that (or a similar) announcement. and everyone was told not to leave ((???) that there had been an "incident" and to stand by for all the security were running round like headless chickens, all the staff had been evacuated from the shops and seemed to be panicking and confused as well

it was really frightening esp as people were feeling jumpy because of the recent events in tunisia

so thoughtless, what a day to do it on

I've never been to Leicester, but there was an 'evacuate the centre immediately' announcement in my local shopping centre a few days after Paris ... The fear on people's faces was awful. I reacted really well - stayed calm and got the children out in moments, but it has unsettled me so much. I had a panic attack that afternoon and have been unsettled in crowds and shops since. And I feel angry at myself for being in fear like this, but it's hard not to be!
