to proclaim that my DH is all kinds of wrong in how he prepares his croissants...

Please settle an argument - marital bliss is at stake here.

I know think that when putting jam on a croissant you stick the knife into the croissant and spread it around on the INSIDE.

DH believes wrongly that you should upturn said croissant and spread jam on the bottom.

He's wrong - right? Please tell me I'm right!

Best way is to cut them in half and warm them under the grill, so that the top goes a bit crispy. Then spread with salted butter. Divine!

MummyTheGregor · 31/01/2016 10:49

Well, was going to say that I think they're yummy any way you eat them.... but didn't think it was possible to be that weird.... he's very wrong... LTB!

Seeyounearertime · 31/01/2016 10:49

Tear a bit, spread a bit, eat a bit. perfect with a really good coffee.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 31/01/2016 10:54

I can't believe it got to page 3 before a LTB. Grin

We cut croissant in half, stuff with ham and emmental, then microwave for 15ish seconds each.

He does what? Why do that? He's so very wrong.

6o6o842 · 31/01/2016 11:14

Tear a bite sized piece off the end, spread butter and/or jam on the exposed part of your torn morsel and get it in your belly! Repeat.

Mislou · 31/01/2016 11:21

Mmm love croissants. I always do the tearing off, dipping a bit in coffee. They come served with a knife and fork in NZ cafes , so I probably I'm looking a bit uncivilized ?

Carolbetty · 31/01/2016 11:27

Why do you care?

Provencalroseparadox · 31/01/2016 11:39

Tear off a bit and dip it in coffee

Lightbulbon · 31/01/2016 11:41

In France, we don't put butter nor jam on our croissants.

mrspremise · 31/01/2016 12:49

Croissants are mostly butter anyway, why would you add more? Just dip it in your coffee.

HMF1 · 31/01/2016 12:53

Edma in France you have better croissants, here in the UK there are very few places to buy a decent croissant & you do need to put some jam or something on them, and getting back to the original question definitely tearing off bits to eat.

Chickpeachick0 · 31/01/2016 12:57

DH French relatives never put butter on croissants . They sometimes do jam and in the winter dip in hot choc.
I like all ways !!

Xmasbaby11 · 31/01/2016 12:59

Most croissants require butter and jam.

Unless it's a pain au chocolate in which case just raspberry jam.

Tear and spread. Anything else is too messy.

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 31/01/2016 13:04

Haven't read all replies but I am also weird.
I hate trying to cut open a soft croissant so if I am having jam I spread it on the bottom.
If you cut it open you don't get an even spread because of all the holes in the pastry bleugh!

tiredofbadwifi · 31/01/2016 13:18

French family and partly raised in France and I've never heard of that before... Dipping it in tea/coffee is lovely though

originalmavis · 31/01/2016 14:26

Or just eat them straigh out of the bag. Nothing nicer than a freshly baked croissant.

AuntGertrude · 31/01/2016 14:28

Tear off a bite-sized piece, slather butter (and sometimes jam/Nutella) on the torn edge of the piece before cramming it in.

Or just plain and dipping in coffee/hot chocolate.

originalmavis · 31/01/2016 14:29

Nutella? Nutella?? What is wrong with you?

theycallmemellojello · 31/01/2016 14:34

In my youth I went out with an extremely posh boy (old Etonian, aristocratic family connections etc) who was APPALLED at me slicing open the croissant and putting butter and jam on the inside. Apparently the socially acceptable way is to tear it in half and put jam on the top (yes, so that it weirdly slides off the non-absorbent surface). Also, it's very gauche to warm them in the oven. Bonus points if you offer guests 'viennoiserie' rather than croissants.

SusannahD · 31/01/2016 14:38

Croissants must be warmed in oven. Then tear bits of and apply lovely butter and jam, must also be accompanied with a cup of tea.

originalmavis · 31/01/2016 14:40

Vair posh people usually have the most horrendous habits. I find they fart, belch and pick their noses gleefully in public.

I bet they fed the dogs croissants off the good china too.

originalmavis · 31/01/2016 14:40

Not the queen. I'm sure she doesn't fart ever.
