Who is BU, me or superdrug re make up exchange?

Am quietly seething about something I know is petty in the grand scheme of things. I bought new foundation yesterday, simply a new bottle of one I already have and like, an 8 quid maybelline one. When I got home I saw that the one I'd picked had been in the wrong slot, so right foundation, wrong colour. I tried to take it back today for an exchange and was refused on the basis they don't return makeup. I had the receipt, and the foundation is sealed with a huge plastic seal and security patch over the lid. Apparently this is superdrug policy, though it doesnt say so anywhere i could see. I'm just cross as now I'm left with something I can't use and am out of pocket too. It makes no sense that it's a blanket policy when there's plenty of stuff in there that isn't sealed that I could apparently take back for any old reason I liked. So, forgiving the extremely petty nature of my problem, wibu to go back tomorrow to speak to the manager? I just want the right shade, can prove I bought it, and it's sealed!

It is sealed!! YANBU!!

Same as exasperated-years of experience in cosmetics and you absolutely should be allowed to swap it. Yanbu-I'd go back and ask for a manager.

Boots were very shirty when I tried to return still sealed foundation: i bought the wrong Ivory when their brand suddenly started doing two shades of it after years of just one ivory shade. It was unsealed so I did my polite but firm face and she backed down. Ridiculous to argue over obviously unused items IMO.

What are people's experiences of returning opened mascara that flakes all over your face? I've been using it for a week and by the afternoon my whole below eye area has flakes on it and in my eye crease by my nose. Bought from Boots fortunately not Superdrug.

Sealed with receipt and you want to exchange not refund I can't see what the issue is. Must happen loads by accident. I nearly bought a different mascara for brown eyes when mine are blue. Sales assistant double checked it was for me. Hadn't realised the black came in brown eye and blue eye Grin

I'd be stunned if boots didn't exchange/refund it. Their policies are very customer friendly.

Just wondering whether you went back to speak with a manager OP, and if you did, how you got on?

TornNotTorn · 29/01/2016 15:44

I did, and she did agree 'as a one off' to exchange it. She said as it had been out of a controlled environment they're not allowed to resell it, even though it's sealed. When I pointed out that I could bring anything else, that they'd never know I'd tampered with, she did admit it was crazy. But I'm happy, I just wish common sense would prevail sometimes.

I have made similar mistake in Boots. No problem, swapped instantly for right shade.

That surprises me because I used to work in Boots and we absolutely wouldn't take back make up, even if it had been bought minutes before and was sealed. We had to tell people as they bought it that it couldn't be returned.

pineappleshortbread · 29/01/2016 16:32

I understand why they dont take it back. I used to work in argos and we would not exchange or refund earrings nd makeup and told customers this.

Its due to hygiene reasons. Makeup becomes contaminated the moment you use it as you touch it. Bubble bath on the other hand you simply empty out you dont touch it first.
