te get a perm?

Any hairdressers out there? I was wondering of you can achieve natural looking volumous curls with a perm these days or are they always bad news? I have medium to thick hair that's in half decent condition and a dark mousy blonde although it has been bleached before but not for months.

I was thinking of going a nice dark auburn?

I am old enough to remember the 80s, so I think you are definitely being U. Sorry. Grin

Watching this interest - when I last went to the hairdressers I asked for one and they refused because my hair was 'too good condition' Hmm

Liz and Deirdre say no.

I know there are new fangled 'digital perms' these days but I'd approach with caution. On the other hand it's only hair so what the heck!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 26/01/2016 16:28

I used to perm my hair back in the day, the very first one was terrific.

After that it all goes downhill, DON'T DO IT EVER!.

HoneyDragon · 26/01/2016 16:28

You still can't get big loose curls as they will fall out, but you never could anyway. Plus you obviously have to wait for the perm to loosen up.

I say do it. I absolutely loved mine. When I've grown my hair out again I shall probably have another ... It is by far the nicest easiest maintence do I've ever had, apart from when I've shaved my head.

Sad oh I was so hoping you'd all say they have come up in the world since the 80s Grin
Honey dragon what does yours come out like? I don't want loose curls really.. more like big bouncy natural looking ones

It's blue and brown and short now. I'm very fickle Grin

If you talk with your hairdresser and realistic about what your hair will do than they are great. I'm sure I'll do it again Smile

ItsAllAboutTheCakes · 26/01/2016 17:08

That sounds fab! I've had my hair an array of colours over the years but it's been the same for ages now and I get bored very quickly!

Just make sure you tell the hairdresser how long ago you had bleached or highlighted your hair as the ends may still be affected by it even if you have dyed it a darker colour since! When I was doing hairdressing at college last year, we had to do a test on hair before perming, as it can really damage hair if it has been bleached or dyed with certain colours in the past! Just a word of caution!
Otherwise I'd go for it as (despite remembering those horrid bubble perms) it's becoming more fashionable again now! 😊

ComposHatComesBack · 26/01/2016 19:26

Is that what you want op? Cos that's what will happen!
