To be absolutely terrified?!

Hi All,
I have just had my first smear test and my results show high grade dyskariosis.

I have a colposcopy appointment on 25/02/16 and I am terrified!
I found the smear really uncomfortable and I am really worried about the colposcopy and possible further treatment!

I know this is common but I can't help but worry, I wonder if anyone can offer their experiences of colposcopy/treatment? Was it successful? or any advice?

I guess knowing what to expect will help me relax a little. (Good or bad!)
I hope this all makes sense, I am feeling a bit of a mess at the moment!
Thanks in advance! X

I had this when I was 19. It was all fine, got the all clear and all smears have been fine since - it was 21 years ago!

Thank you all, I'm feeling much better!
I will definitely tell them I found my smear uncomfortable and that I am very nervous!

In the meantime, I need to let it go, I'm worried that I'll get so worked up they won't be able to do anything in the day! Xx

I've never had one, but I've seen lots performed. At our clinic, if they're going to do anything invasive like a biopsy, they offer the choice of local anaesthetic or not. I cannot stress too highly, take the anaesthetic! It's fine with it, but those patients who opted not to bother usually say they wish they'd had it.

Thanks creampie, I will definitely take the anaesthetic!
I have banned myself from Google as I'm scaring myself when I know it's something that has to be done! Xx
