The "father" who refused to have anything at all to do withhis daughter -

Flora Keays was the subject of a 'Mary Bell' order to gag her and her mother. OK, poor choice to have a long affair with a married man but that's not the girl's fault. Staggered the wife stuck around.

what it is to have friends in high places.

the guy was a terrible MP and some of his decisions are the root of chaos still in place today, for example electricity privatisation.

so he did it to both his wife and his country.

CheesyNachos · 25/01/2016 17:35

YANBU.That article was pretty dreadful.

MrsUltra · 25/01/2016 17:35

I think your post is in extremely bad taste
Agree,
And yes, YABU

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/01/2016 17:36

He was a sleazy scumbag. Anyone who knew him well enough to pay tribute to him must know that sie of him too. Shame on them.

wasonthelist · 25/01/2016 17:37

Both parents got the injunction
Not according to the Telegraph, but feel free to elaborate.

EmStAubert · 25/01/2016 17:39

I don't think your post is in bad taste. Hardly beyond the pale. I was a bit Hmm at some of the condolences today and wondered if it was the same Cecil Parkinson. But isn't that often the way.

Savagebeauty · 25/01/2016 17:39

Utter bastard. What a terrible thing to do

wasonthelist · 25/01/2016 17:39

Can those saying I have "poor taste" explain why? If it's some blanket "don't speak ill of the dead" tripe, then I don't subscribe, especially not when no-one in the mainstream media is mentioning his daughter.

OP posts:
OneTiredMama · 25/01/2016 17:40

YANBU, what a horrible man. How anyone could take out a court order to silence their own child and never even bother to acknowledge them is beyond me.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 25/01/2016 17:43

YANBU The man was an utter cunt. Can't believe anyone could think you were U.

Dawndonnaagain · 25/01/2016 17:43

YANBU. Totally agree with you, his behaviour was abominable.

HesterShaw · 25/01/2016 17:43

I didn't know any of this.

What a total shit :(

FreckledLeopard · 25/01/2016 17:43

YANBU. His death does not suddenly redeem his inherent flaws or exonerate him for his behaviour. It's shocking that a man can be so hypocritical and callous.

Zazedonia · 25/01/2016 17:43

Sounds like an incredibly extreme court judgement, influenced by the man's powerful friends.

YANBU OP. I feel exactly the same way.

To the point above, I think Sara initially agreed to the injunction but then fought tooth and nail to have it overturned.

His behaviour was despicable. Sickening is NOT too strong a word. The abuse of position and power, the treatment of his daughter and her mother, his contempt for their feelings and lives. All absolutely sickening.

YANBU. Horrible man.

HelenaDove · 25/01/2016 17:47

I remember the stuff about the affair and his treatment of his daughter being all over the news when i was a kid.

I was appalled by it

Just because someone dies it doesnt suddenly elevate them to sainthood.

RainOhJoyus · 25/01/2016 17:47

YANBU, he sounds vile from that article.
Genuinely didn't know who he was before reading it

wheelofapps · 25/01/2016 17:48

Vile man.

To silence his own disabled child and make her caregiver fight for every trifle she needed is hideous.

Haven't the 'powerful' always used the Courts this way?
Doesn't make it right though.

I wont be reading any flattering Obits of him.

NameChange1815 · 25/01/2016 17:48

YANBU. Nasty piece of work.

ImperialBlether · 25/01/2016 17:50

How can anyone think this is in poor taste and that the OP is being unreasonable? I don't understand this at all.

He has died, yes, but he treated his own disabled daughter as though she was dead right from the moment he heard his girlfriend was pregnant. Just because he was married. Just because he was in power. And he got an injunction against his girlfriend to stop her mentioning their daughter in public. Absolutely disgusting.

wannaBe · 25/01/2016 17:51

Have never heard of him. But tbh I don't think either of them exactly covered themselves in glory. She knowingly had an affair with a married man for twelve years Then coincidentally Hmm fell pregnant at the time he was elected and went to the press to announce it. Seems she probably had her own agenda, and tbh perhaps if she hadn't acted the way she had none of this would have happened in the way it did. Perhaps he would have supported his child more then who knows. Not excusing the way he behaved subsequently but the ow was no angel or victim either.

The only victim in all this mess was the child.
