To wear split knee black jeans and a leather biker jacket at 53?

I'm meeting people I haven't seen in a long while so tried on some new clobber. Dd said I looked fine, but I can't get over the fact I'm 53. Mutton and lamb spring to mind.

To give you something to go on,I'm 5ft 7 and a size 6 to 8 with hair just past my shoulders.

You don't have to be kind, just tell me what you think!

I'm 47, and while my jeans aren't split, they're black and I wear a biker jacket. And biker boots....

I also play loud metal in the car (always have, actually), and my DCs think it's great. I've bought a ticket to Download for just me, and DP and the DCs will be fending for themselves that weekend Grin.

Have fun.

My boss, who's late 50s and a size 8/10 (by the looks of it) wears a wee biker jacket and skinny jeans. She looks gorgeous!

OneMillionScovilles · 24/01/2016 18:36

Photo!! Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 25/01/2016 00:54

Size 6 with black skinny jeans and biker jacket, I bet you look totally hot. Envy

Age doesn't enter into it.

Ticktacktock · 25/01/2016 08:59

photo? really? ok someone tell me how to do it and I'll do a headless shot.

that would-be the ultimate approval from you, as I'm not overly confident, which is why I'm asking in the first place

As soon as the photo is on your computer, just browse to select on the 'choose file' option beneath the posting box.

Older people, generally, have more disposable income and a desire to recapture lost youth, but IMO there are nicer, more flattering options than a leather coat or jacket. Suede, sheepskin or denim for example.

I would never wear leather near the face because I think it invites comparison with the skin. It only works if you're 20.

Ticktacktock · 25/01/2016 09:44

Freda Shock

you've just undone it all, my skin is like leather

Thank you for explaining our motives to us Freda but actually some of us just enjoy having a bit of fun with fashion. Like some younger women do.

FredaMayor · 25/01/2016 09:50

Quite right, Flo, but let the fun be yours, and not others' at your expense.

multivac · 25/01/2016 09:51

"I would never wear leather near the face because I think it invites comparison with the skin."

How bizarre. Why leather, specifically? And also, did your skin start looking like leather when you turned 21? WTF did you do to it?

Floisme · 25/01/2016 09:55

Freda I am touched by your concern but but I'm 59 and no-one, but no-one is looking at me let alone noticing what I wear. It is actually very liberating.

AppleSetsSail · 25/01/2016 10:30

That was pretty mean, Flo.

I'd say a leather jacket could be way more age appropriate than a denim jacket.

AppleSetsSail · 25/01/2016 10:31

sorry Freda

KoalaDownUnder · 25/01/2016 10:38

A leather jacket is way more stylish, classy and 'age-appropriate' (as ambivalent as I feel about that phrase) than a denim jacket!

The comment about leather near the face is just bizarre.

icanteven · 25/01/2016 10:39

Sounds fine to me.

My only caveat is that as you get older, the quality should go up - so a £20 pvu jacket from Asos might stand out a bit more grimly than it did at 20 when somehow everything looks fine. Whereas the Whistles biker jacket looks brilliant.

Your size and shape mean you probably look fantastic in everything though. :)

JackandDiane · 25/01/2016 10:47

this is ONE LONG humble brag isnt it?

KoalaDownUnder · 25/01/2016 10:48

Nice, Jack Hmm

Floisme · 25/01/2016 11:03

Why was it mean, Apple?

tizzylittle · 25/01/2016 11:03

I always think certain clothes go a long way to looking young. I have a friend who dresses like this at 63, she has a really trendy hairstyle and with the clothes she wears looks great and looks years younger than what she is. I have another friend of the same age who dresses very conservatively. She always seems so much older than the other friend. If you look good in the clothes, go for it.

Floisme · 25/01/2016 11:04

Ah sorry, missed your second post Smile

TheHouseOnTheLane · 25/01/2016 11:10

Of course YANBU. I'm 43 and that's not far behind you...same sort of target market...I would. And I would at 60. Or 70 frankly.

TheHouseOnTheLane · 25/01/2016 11:11

Flo they might be. My aunt is 64 and she's still exceedingly attractive.Gorgeous in fact. She gets loads of looks...men and women...she dresses very well, has a swishy, blonde bob...she's pretty. Why wouldn't they?

ScoutandAtticus · 25/01/2016 11:46

Leather jacket sounds great but IMO the ripped jeans might be a bit try hard. This was an outfit bought by your 17 year old I think you said. I just can't imagine that working as well for someone older. I will now doubt be flamed but there's my opinion. That's not to say you can't work the rock chick look, of course you can but I think you just need to tweek it a bit as you get older. Just my view.

Floisme · 25/01/2016 11:52

TheHouse they are not looking at me, I promise you. Nor are they looking at any of my friends of a similar age - we sometimes talk about how we could walk down the road naked without anyone noticing. I admit it used to piss me off a bit but now I'm beginning to quite enjoy it. I wear what I like, when I like and everyone is happy.

As for the leather question, my skin may not be what it used to be but I think most people can still tell the difference between my face and tanned animal hide.
