neighbours music - how loud is too loud?

Not been in current house long but every now and then people drive by/pull up with music blaring late at night/early morning , but usually stops once they've pulled up and got out of car- annoying but can live with it
Not sure if this is same people but tonight I've just come to bed and a house opposite has shit music blaring.
I like to sleep with window open, but thought fair enough, for a quiet night I'll close it, but can STILL hear the music through the double glazing.
I know long term that the local environmental team follow things like this up, but is there anything I can do/anyone I can call to assist relatively immediately if this carries on into the night?

People NEVER do this, but a polite note through the door?

"hello, I live opposite you and last night your music kept me awake until xxx time. I need to sleep because xxx. I realise you might not know how loud your music was, but it kept me awake.
Please would you consider turning it down?

Many thanks."

If you have done this, and they don't change their behaviour, THEN you have good reason to report them.

So are you saying 1st night you just have to stick it out?

Not being sarcastic but have never been in this situation before - only ever had noise from adjoining houses.

Plus from here I can't see which exact house (or flat,there are lots of terraces houses converted to flats round our way ) it is....

Go and knock on the door and ask them if they could kindly turn it down?

You have my sympathies - we have a family on our street who aren't loud enough for EH to do anything about, but can be heard through double glazing: it's not too bad this time of the year, but in the summer, they start with the noise around 7am, yelling in the street and slamming van doors for the men, and loud conversations for the women, and ending around 4am. They may indeed stop during daylight hours during the week- they don't at the weekend, for sure - but as I'm at work, I wouldn't know. I regularly plot their demise!

Brick through the window? I'm presently sleep deprived and like a starved rotweiller. Violence is my answer to everything right now.

I'd knock the door and ask them to turn it down. Most people are ok about it, if all else fails, 101 for them!

Not sure if you've been there long enough to suss the situation out properly an it is the weekend, a party now and again isn't a crime. Annoying, but not a crime.

If however it happens every weekend then ask them to tone it down a bit or complain to the authorities.

I think the only thing you can do is knock on the door and ask them to turn it down. I've done this with previous neighbours before and music was turned off.

If you're not comfortable to go around I think unfortunately you probably have to suck it up and wait to put a note through the door tomorrow.

Don't put a note through as your opening salvo with new neighbours - talk to them. Say hello in the street when you see them or even go and introduce yourselves. Once you've done that then you can have a conversation about the music.
