To expect toilet roll to last longer than this?

I think they're eating it or something.

4 people in the house - one man, one woman, two teenage girls. Old teenage, not young.

We've just gone through a pack of 18 rolls since Sunday (a week past yesterday). No one is on their period. I don't think it's being used for wanking. Teens have access to make up wipes etc. No one appears to be dressed as a mummy.

I started the last roll at 7pm and it's all gone except 2 squares now.

Apparently I am being a tight arse for asking people to reduce their use of bog roll. I know it's not the biggest issue in the world but fucking hell, given that we're not all in the house all week, how can we be getting through so much?!

The drains are going to be fucked. But that's okay, because it won't be the tight fisted arse who has to get out there with the rods. Grin

It's the man. I swear my DH eats toilet roll.

SecretNutellaFix · 18/01/2016 23:15

Buy value loo roll for everyone else and keep a 4-pack of nice stuff hidden away for yourself and invited guests.

Value stuff doesn't clog up the drains as much as it breaks down better apparently.

honeysucklejasmine · 18/01/2016 23:17

Oh my gosh! Surely it takes talent to excrete so much waste as to use that much loo roll!

I'd be tempted to start getting everyone to take it in turns to purchase, student style.

celeste83 · 18/01/2016 23:18

Must be the wanking Grin blame the man hehe

honeysucklejasmine · 18/01/2016 23:20

I'd also be loudly discussing taking them all to the doctors to get to the bottom of their chronic gastric issues. Because "surely no normal, healthy people would be remotely capable of using loo roll that quickly!"

SecretNutellaFix · 18/01/2016 23:22

Do DD's bring a roll with them to school or something like that?

celeste83 · 18/01/2016 23:23

Yes it is an extreme amount of loo roll in one evening for four people. Have you heard the loo being flushed many times this evening?

ZenNudist · 18/01/2016 23:24

You'd post made me laugh

No answers for you but my 5yo seems to be piling it down the loo for fun. His rules seen to be 5 sheets for wee and half a roll if it's the other.

Caught him wiping his penis (a drip) with loo roll that was still attached to the roll, then just sort of shoving it in the direction of the loo, letting it feed off the roll, he didn't get as far as flushing with it still on the roll because I bellowed at him

Perhaps your family are doing similar Grin ?

ManneryTowers · 18/01/2016 23:26

Sorry to suggest it but do either of the teenagers have an eating issue? Not to be too graphic, but lining the loo with paper deadens the sound of vomiting.

celeste83 · 18/01/2016 23:27

lol Zen

MrsVamos · 18/01/2016 23:28

Do you have a cat ? Or a dog ?

They could be unrollling it for fun ? Grin

I had a dog that did this.

I also knew someone who used to leave st's rolled up toilet paper (dirty girl) whose cat would then unroll them all around the house. Bleurgh.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 18/01/2016 23:29

That's a staggering amount.

My guess is the 50 visitors you have each day but failed to notice.

We are a family of 3. Me. Ds (12) dd (2) recently trained.

Dd isn't good at toilets or 'paper roll' yet, so I pass her a couple of squares.

I use wipes for poop. Binned, not flushed. And a couple of squares for a pee.

Ds. Who knows. I swear, some days it's half a roll, other days, maybe a sock?

But we use a roll every 3-4 days I guess? Maybe a bit quicker if I am on.

CrookedToupee · 18/01/2016 23:47

Well it's not the value stuff, though that has lasted longer than this when we've used it. It's supermarket own, can't remember which one this time. Interesting to know that the value stuff blocks the drains less though.

Don't think it's a vomiting issue, they barely ever shut the door properly when they go so I don't think they're hiding anything.

The dog used to drink toilet water but there's no evidence of him going for the paper, will keep an eye on the auld bugger though.

I wouldn't say the loo has been used any more than usual tonight. Tomorrow, I'm going to do some bedroom rummaging, there's got to be more to this - papier mache by stealth?

The use has been creeping up over time, I grumbled at 12 rolls a week but someone was on their period and we had a couple of guests a couple of evenings so I let it go.

I'm glad to know it's not me being stingy with it because I was starting to feel like I was.

My mother used to comment about toilet rolls disappearing faster when my cousin stayed. She was 18 and it turned out she was eating it to fill her stomach turned out she had a anorexic issue Not saying thats an issue in your house but worth checking out????

Ludoole · 19/01/2016 01:08

An not a - bloody phone Angry

shadowfax07 · 19/01/2016 01:30

Are you folders or scrunchers? I'm a folder with a bowel problem who works from home, DP is a scruncher who has a full time job. When he's off work, we can go through four rolls a week, and he then blames me if a toilet gets blocked. Hmm

If your dog still does drink water from the toilet, please don't ever use rim blocks, etc. We lost one our our dogs early from liver failure because we didn't realise she was doing it, and my sister used to buy those bleach blocks to put in the cistern. Hmm

TheHouseOnTheLane · 19/01/2016 01:39

That's a ridiculous amount...18 rolls in one week is aprox 2 a day!

One or two people are doing that winding thing when they pull it off....you know, wrapping loads around their hand.

I would...in your shoes, buy 18 rolls, split it fairly and say "That's your supply for two weeks." if you run out, you do it Indian style. Grin

MariaV0nTrapp · 19/01/2016 01:45

Crikey I thought we were bad! 9 rolls a week we use (usually) 1 a day in the week 4 over the weekend. There are 11 of us in our house. 1 is a baby so doesn't count and one is a toilet training 2 year old boy that thinks it's great to chuck the whole roll in the loo.Angry like I say.. usually it's 9 rolls a week. Have even known to use 18 during school holidays. Yours must definitely be eating it OP Grin

Qwebec · 19/01/2016 01:47

Yes, I used to get toilet paper that was like those in public stalls, super thin but endless and lasted ages, untill DP complained it was not soft enough for his bum. Now we go through the rolls like mad, turns out no matter how thick or thin the paper is he uses the same amount (lots).
Sigh, as he is a grown man, not much I can do.

Buy the thin one if it lasts longuer, and ration them! Threaten them you are going to change for a water bucket instead of toilet paper if they don't get their act together!

Herrerarerra · 19/01/2016 01:54

We used to go through a lot, as in a pack of 9 every week...and then my son left for university in October. We now use probably four rolls each week between the three of us but I noticed a big difference again when he was home for Christmas.

HighwayDragon1 · 19/01/2016 08:09

Are the teenagers girls, if so are they on their period? We go through loads when its my totm.

Onthedowns · 19/01/2016 08:13

We get through tons here too! I don't know where it all goes! I find buying cheap stuff is almost false economy I get through it quicker then if I buy half decent stuff😔!

SquinkiesRule · 19/01/2016 08:40

I'm with highway teen girls, and periods use a ton of paper, we go through a roll a day when Dd and I overlap with our monthly cycle.

KP86 · 19/01/2016 09:03

Wow, family of 2 adults and one nappy wearing toddler, and we use a roll every couple of days?? I buy a big pack once a month at most.

Your family must eat the stuff! I cannot fathom using 18 rolls in a week, even if I doubled our family's use to account for two extra people.
