To expect toilet roll to last longer than this?

I think they're eating it or something.

4 people in the house - one man, one woman, two teenage girls. Old teenage, not young.

We've just gone through a pack of 18 rolls since Sunday (a week past yesterday). No one is on their period. I don't think it's being used for wanking. Teens have access to make up wipes etc. No one appears to be dressed as a mummy.

I started the last roll at 7pm and it's all gone except 2 squares now.

Apparently I am being a tight arse for asking people to reduce their use of bog roll. I know it's not the biggest issue in the world but fucking hell, given that we're not all in the house all week, how can we be getting through so much?!

The drains are going to be fucked. But that's okay, because it won't be the tight fisted arse who has to get out there with the rods. Grin

Any chance the teens are using it to remove makeup?

Our house is me, DH and 3yo DS - if I buy an 18 pack it lasts a month or so.

CraftyMissus · 19/01/2016 19:49

I don't remember ever using 18 rolls so quickly even when I was a kid and we had 5 of us plus assorted waifs and strays in the house.

Put out one roll... And a pair of socks belonging to each person. If the loo roll goes down too fast bye bye socks!

Anyone got a cold?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2016 20:20

totally understand, DF seems to eat loo roll, he can get through a roll almost daily Shock so a pack of 9 nicely quilted is £3 on offer, and i only buy in bulk when on offer usually last us a week, him 7 rolls me maybe 1.5 - 2 a week

when he moved in 3.5yrs ago i noticed the loo roll consumption increase big time !!!!!

Ridingthegravytrain · 19/01/2016 20:54

Yes it's the men. My husband used a whole roll in a matter of hours in a hotel at the weekend. How!!

jadzy73 · 19/01/2016 23:42

Holy moley 18?? Even if it's yours and your girls' totm that's just mega excessive!! In this house there's me, hubby, 9yr old ds and 5 yr old dd and we're down to the last 3 rolls out of a 24 pack of Asda shades. This was bought around 5 or 6 weeks ago so has included use by various visitors over Christmas and we also spent a lot of time at home over the holidays. I just bought a new 24 pack at the weekend so I'm gonna track how long it lasts.....

WeeHelena · 20/01/2016 00:18

Do you have hight ceilings? childhood flashback .

My and dd barely get through one roll a week combined with wet wipes which one pack last a month.

clary · 20/01/2016 00:31

Hm yeah 18 in a week is a lot.

I buy a 9-pack about every fortnight or so (certainly not every week, anyway) so we are using a quarter of what you use. This is a house with DH, me, 3 x teenagers.

TBH I think it's DS2 using it all (I don't think it lasts long here either, tho nothing like your usage OP!). Also we have too many loos which I just think encourages more usage. And means more loos for me to clean, but that's another thread... Grin

Is anyone else now going to track their loo roll use assiduously? I bought 9 rolls on Saturday as we only had about 7-8 left of the last pack. So I reckon that should last us till half term (goes off to mark calendar...)

AlisonWunderland · 20/01/2016 00:38

Our downstairs loo has a very rattley loo roll holder.
I can hear DH unrolling yards at a time!

dodobookends · 20/01/2016 00:56

You don't have a poltergeist do you (one with Montezuma's Revenge)?Grin

sykadelic · 21/01/2016 00:54

RoseValley83 I live in the US so it's the Wal-mart app that gives you money back on purchases as well :)

Baconyum · 21/01/2016 01:09

We get through just under 9 rolls a 4 week month dd (15) and I. They must be using it for something else. That's 8 times what we use and that's 2 menstruating people here too.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 21/01/2016 08:43

Wow I cannot believe how much toilet tissue people are using. I have just bought 36 rolls for £10 (special offer) naice quilted paper. It is definitely worth buying decent rolls. They will probably last dh and I into 2017, just 2 of us at home, dh retired, I work from home. We get through 1 roll per fortnight ish, more of course if we have visitors. You do not need half a roll per visit, 2 or 3 sheets is more than sufficient!!

Roussette · 21/01/2016 09:00

When my DCs were at home, consumption of toilet rolls was probably like yours Crooked. I did get to the point of buying them the cheap ole stuff and us having naice loo roll in our ensuite. It was ridiculous the amount they were getting through so if you're going to waste it, have rubbish loo roll!

Also, when a toilet roll was running out, they wouldn't put a new one on the holder. So each DC would take just a bit off leaving less and less each time until there was a piece the size of a postage stamp left ... then they could all say they weren't the last one to use it all. Clever that. Grin

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 21/01/2016 09:52

Do you have a large basket of loose rolls that people are helping themselves to?

I'm always slightly surprised by otherwise honest people who half inch bog rolls...

A pal does airbnb so frequent one night only guests- she now only leaves a half empty loo roll as so many went missing when there was a packet of spare ones! Within 3 nights 12 rolls disappeared!!

An acquaintance was a rich barrister and would frequently avail himself of any 'spares' lying around Grin and was quite upfront about this!

systemlakeland · 02/05/2018 09:24

There's another thread about this.

Perhaps they have particularly viscous poos that take a lot of wiping?

systemlakeland · 02/05/2018 09:27

Maybe try a deterrent, OP?

To expect toilet roll to last longer than this?
systemlakeland · 02/05/2018 09:27

Where'd the other toilet roll thread go? It was a scream Grin
