To expect toilet roll to last longer than this?

I think they're eating it or something.

4 people in the house - one man, one woman, two teenage girls. Old teenage, not young.

We've just gone through a pack of 18 rolls since Sunday (a week past yesterday). No one is on their period. I don't think it's being used for wanking. Teens have access to make up wipes etc. No one appears to be dressed as a mummy.

I started the last roll at 7pm and it's all gone except 2 squares now.

Apparently I am being a tight arse for asking people to reduce their use of bog roll. I know it's not the biggest issue in the world but fucking hell, given that we're not all in the house all week, how can we be getting through so much?!

The drains are going to be fucked. But that's okay, because it won't be the tight fisted arse who has to get out there with the rods. Grin

Ha. We went through 18 rolls in just over a week when my oldest daughter was at home. After she left and it's just my dh and younger teenage dd our loo roll consumption is much more acceptable. She came home again for a few months and I began muttering about it again. I can't understand what she does with it!

thecapitalsunited · 19/01/2016 09:44

Just me and DH here. We go through a roll every 2 or 3 days. It's my fault because I'm a scruncher. DH is a folder so only uses about 3 sheets even for a curry explosion shit while I'd be there using half a roll for the same thing.

PolovesTubbyCustard · 19/01/2016 09:49

Anyone had a cold?

DS is current holed up in his room snuffling and blowing his nose. I know he grabs a roll or two just for nose blowing.

NoahVale · 19/01/2016 09:58

do they wrap their tampons in it?
i keep providing nappy sacks,
we seem to go through an awful lot as well

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/01/2016 10:02

YANBU that's bloody fast! We had 12 rolls (normal Andrex) come with the Tesco Christmas delivery on 23/12. The last one has just been finished I think the first was started on Christmas Day. 2 adults, 2 children, 1 toilet training toddler.

PurpleDaisies · 19/01/2016 10:03

The only time this happened to me was when a housemate was anorexic and she was literally eating it.

I hope you've just got a very enthusiastic wiper in your house.

figureofspeech · 19/01/2016 10:19

Just buy moist wipes and the regular loo roll should last longer. Gather them all round & instruct them like toddlers to wipe off with dry tissue & clean with the moist! I expect they are trying to clean as much as possible that's why they are using so much. Wet loo wipes are the way to go.

ruby1234 · 19/01/2016 10:22

If you squash the roll when you put it on the holder so the middle is a thin oval () rather than a fat O, it makes it harder just to roll away when you pull it.

Seems to make it last longer here as only a sheet or two unrolls at once.

notarehearsal · 19/01/2016 10:36

Many years ago I had a house paying guest from a local non English college. The loo roll actually disappeared in minutes. Turned out he was drying himself with it after his numerous showers. Most odd

wowfudge · 19/01/2016 10:41

Hmm - do you know that the rolls are actually making it onto the holder in the bathroom? (If you have one.) Has someone moved a pack so it's not where it's normally kept? Do you have a cleaner or have you had visitors who may have pilfered it thinking you have plenty and it'll save them a shopping trip? Are your family playing a joke on you.

I'd keep a roll somewhere for myself and not replenish the bathroom supply and see what happens.

jbee1979 · 19/01/2016 12:49

Is somebody pregnant? I went through a roll a day all by myself when I first stopped work before DD was born. I knew I was peeing a lot, but it was more affordable when I was doing half my peeing at work !!

FinestGrundyTurkey · 19/01/2016 13:26

One or two people are doing that winding thing when they pull it off....you know, wrapping loads around their hand

This, I reckon.

TooMuchOfEverything · 19/01/2016 13:52

That is a lot! I base my loo roll purchasing on one per person per week. Which seems plenty imo.

upthegardenpath · 19/01/2016 13:53

Agree about teenagers and periods and overlapping periods, but OP said none of the ladies in the house were having one at the time.
Blimey though - I thought our house was bad! But then we have one 7 yo girl too, and she uses at least 3 sheets for wee and christ knows how many for the other.
Has been much better since we got a bidet though. She has a smaller wipe for No.2 and then a wash. Saves a bloody fortune on bog roll Grin

Goingtobeawesome · 19/01/2016 13:56

FindingPeace - ask her?

PolovesTubbyCustard · 19/01/2016 14:00

My ex used to line the toilet seat - as it was too cold to sit on....

I do that in public loos of they look grubby

KeepPloddingOn · 19/01/2016 14:06

I know you've said that it isn't an economy brand but be aware that economy brands have less squares per roll.

One that I looked at in home bargains was literally half the number of squares compared to Andrea. ...so then you certainly would appear to go through twice as much.

ICanSeeForMiles · 19/01/2016 14:08

When I was a little girl up until my mid twenties really I used to love the noise that the loo roll holder made.. so I used to burl it really fast (and use loads) because I kind of liked the rattle it made Grin

hufflebottom · 19/01/2016 14:11

There's 2 of us in our house. A pack of 4 can last just about 2 weeks.

Only because I told dd (6) that if she continued to use more than she needed I'd start using her pocket money for it.

She's at school all day so it's only me at home until the evening and then she's at my parents at weekends and I'm at work. So I couldn't work out why we were going through 4 in a week.

Gobbolino6 · 19/01/2016 14:15

This used to be a problem for us. I switched to buying economy loo roll.

It lasts ages now. I guess it's not quite so comfy to use great wads of the stuff on the old nethers.

cshimmon · 19/01/2016 14:20

It's pick a week where no-one's on a period or poorly, give them their own roll each, none on the holders, and tell them to make it last- then see who comes begging for more!

MirandaWest · 19/01/2016 14:21

In our house there is me, DP, my DS and DD a bit more than half the time and DPs DS. He's now back at university. Last week DP was working away. I don't know the precise amounts but toilet paper usage went down a lot. Not sure who to blame yet although as DP is here this week I will be monitoring carefully. No periods here as I have a coil and DD is too young.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 19/01/2016 14:28

Old teenage? Are they taking it to school instead of using the tracing paper equivalent supplied there.

sykadelic · 19/01/2016 19:34

I have an app that tracks my purchases so thanks to this thread I decided to check what my DH and I use. We both work full-time.

I buy a 36 pack of double rolls (equal to 72 rolls apparently) of 2-ply that have 264 sheets per roll.

Last purchase: December 18, 2015.
Prior to that: March 28, 2015 (266 days prior).

So if [days/rolls = days per roll] then 266/36 = 7.38 days per double roll or 3.69 days per single roll. I pay $15.97 for my pack so at almost 45c a roll I'm spending just under $1 per week. Expanding that, I need about 50 rolls a year so $18.00 a year or $9 per person a year.

OP's family [7/18 = 0.38 days per roll] are using almost 3 rolls a day. Using the same amount of money per roll that's $7.98 per 18 pack so $1.35 per day. That's $492.75 a year or $123.18 per person a year.

So OP I don't think you're being a tight wad at all. Considering according to my math of 1 adult being $9.00 a year and they're using the equivalent of 13 people's worth...

RoseValley83 · 19/01/2016 19:42

skyadelic which app? Interested!
