AIBU to expect dh to not leave the door wide open

We have a door between the lounge and the front door, it needs to be left open enough so a cat can get through but if left wide open there is a chill and all the heating escapes

Three times I have asked dh to push up door after he has left it wide open

Surely keeping it pushed too is a sensible idea?

When you find out how to get him to consistently do it let me know. DH is terrible for this.

Me too, Ive been trying to train the DH DD and DS for 8 years but am still failing miserably

DH is impervious to the cold so will leave the back door wide open in all weathers - even yesterday while it was snowing, then look surprised when I close it to keep the heat in.

I don't really think there's any hope for any of them. Can you keep your door shut but fit a cat flap? Or train the cat to open and shut the door? Both of these would be easier than man-training.

If you figure out how to teach him can you teach mine to turn off lights when he leaves a room?

Keeping it pushed too seems entirely pointless, either close it to keep different rooms heated, or open any amount is equivalent.

Solving the insulation in the hallway seems the sensible thing to do.

hmm my record playing mantra at the moment is 'shut the flaming bathroom door if you leave the window open after a shower' or ' shut the loo door please' it does my head in how they choose not to bloody remember

I trained my ds to turn off lights... but a little too efficiently. we occasionally all end up in the dark or trying to see in the predawn light.

Don't suppose you could fit a cat flap to the interior door?

You need a cat flap! And then you need the thingy that gets fitted on firedoors so they close automatically. We have one on the door between kitchen and garage, along with a fireproof cat flap. This is a thing.

Can you not train the cat to shut the door? Possibly easier than training a husband.
