To have little cry, eat chocolate and have a bottle of wine this evening?

We were meant to be completing on a house today but sellers solictors have caused problems, missed deadlines and now its too late to draw the funds down from the bank as everything had to be finished by 11am so nnow it looks like sometime next week dpending on how fast solicitors sort things out.

Thankfully we are not in a chain and not homeless as we can stay were we are for now but AIBU? DP has just taken it on the chin and described it as "mildly annoying" Confused

I just wanted to spend the weekend measuring for curtains, looking for furniture and organising the kitchen. :(

YANBU to be disappointed. Hope it all gets sorted out ok next week for you.

I've had a stressful morning and am now in bed eating Chocolate It is the way forward, I'm telling you.

That's annoying but in the grand scheme of things its nothing really, just a few more days.

Still I'd be having some chocolate, but keep it classy have dark high coco. I can recommend lidl 81% Ecuadorian.

I know its only a few days but stupidly disappointed. Got to tell DD tonight - I'd warned her there was a chance of this happening but she was so excited before school this morning.

We just had an email from the seller saying they're going to go to their solicitors on Monday morning and make them sort everything out with a view to completing by noon. Really hope so.

Feel slightly sick could be the 2 bars of chocolate I just threw down my throat

Nooooo.... another email saying END of next week. Why say Monday then change your mind five minutes later.

FFS it was the sellers who wanted everything to go through quickly and had been pushing us to sort things quickly

How can they move a completion date, it is fixed at exchange. They have to pay a penalty don't they if they have moved the date?

OP - I feel for you, we have been supposed to exchange all week (and that date they ARE allowed to move!) but I've just put it from my mind now. The bottle I have in the fridge to celebrate will now simply be drunk, and I will have to get another one for when we are set to go!

It pushes everything back, removals etc all have to be changed, but such it goes. It is always a fraught process.

If you were expecting to "complete" today, you would have had moving company booked, so I also wonder do you mean you were supposed to "exchange contracts"?

We expected to exchange and complete on the same day. (we did this when we bought our current house it can definitely be done). Neither we or the sellers are in a chain and house we're buying is empty so it it wasn't for the bureaucracy it wouldn't be a problem.

We did not have moving companies booked as

a) using a bridging loan so can stay where we are for now as our house has not sold yet
b) moving very locally (think less than 5 minute drive) so can do a lot with the car and book a man and van for furniture sometime over next couple of weeks. No rush , can live between both houses for a bit if necessary.

Been out to lunch with DP... feeling better and decided IABU we're in a much better position than many people.

I exchanged and completed on the same day. I was a cash buyer and it was from the estate of a deceased, I gazumped someone to get it and just wanted it over asap! Was far less painless than people I know who have spent months chasing. All over in three weeks from offer to collecting keys.

Y were not being very U, housebuying is a nightmare, glad you're feeling a bit perkier now. Cholcolate is never unreasonable during conveyancing.

We were in a similar situation but all the holdups were at our end (issues with the lender) Our seller let us move in anyway despite the delayed legals as ds was enroled in his new school, and we exchanged/completed 5 weeks later! It all got a bit tense, seller was arms-length family hence the generosity, but we're great friends now as she lives just down the road Smile

I'm in a chain selling and buying
My buyer has no chain ... 2nd property(holiday home)
My seller purchasing a new home
Seller keen to sell as in process of a divorce
3 weeks since we've all agreed price and confirmed by estate agents in writing. Details of solicitors exchanged you EA

It's been 2.5 weeks since my solicitor has sent a draft contract to my buyer and has also requested for draft contract from seller. Spoken with my solicitor weekly and yet no response from buyer and sellers solicitors

Estate agent stated they are still waiting for replies!!!

Is this normal or still early to be concern?
Do I instruct survey yet?
Any advice ?
