To be very embarrassed about how I look

I had a period where I had to accept work at a lower pay rate than I had become accustomed to, and a combination of reasons meant I was running very low for money.

Anyway, I'm working at my old rate now in a professional role, very professional. And I have no clothes Blush

all my old suits are way too small. Everything looks just awful. I have one pair of trousers that I can get into but they are too tight and dig in so uncomfortably and my legs look so wide! I have no suitable shoes, can't afford to replace them.

I look a mess and have NO spare money to sort myself with a decent working wardrobe.

AIBU to think this may have serious repercussions in terms of my future there? Sad

I'm working on it, but realistically it'll be Easter by the time I'm on target.

M and co does amazing trousers. I cant afford my local charity shop prices. Look in the supermarkets. Good luck in your new job x

"End of the month she will have a £100 budget, but not right now"

Which will go a hell of a lot further if she shops in some places than it will in others.

All supermarkets with a clothing range do petite sizes.

TendonQueen · 14/01/2016 08:06

I posted this earlier, but as another short plump person, Asda trousers, even 'petite' length, don't work on me either. 'Petite' is a variable category and women's clothes differ from shop to shop in cut and fit. Hence people posting the places that work for them. Saying somewhere has a petite range is no guarantee of anything.

£100 will go a long way if you shop in charity shops where you can get quality workwear.

DinosaursRoar · 14/01/2016 08:18

In some charity shops, in some part of the country, you'll find workwear - but I've never found anything in my size, if you are a 12/14, charity shops round here are great. If you are out either side of that, you're going to have to traipse round a lot of them to find something.

£100 for shoes and 2 pairs of trousers sounds about right. Easter is a good target op, think as well, those slightly too tight trousers should start looking great in a month, if you have "in between clothes" they will start coming back in as options every few weeks! Keep at it!

I totally understand what you are saying about just wanting a moan. Sometimes it makes us feel better just to offload, and that's all that's required.

I think on MN though there is pretty much always a desire to "solve" things and give actual help/advice so the moanee Smile can properly address the issue. The instinct and the desire to be of actual help though is generally good and kind and comes from a nice place. I understand it can be frustrating if OPs just want to moan and offload, but I always think if that's all posters want from the thread, it should be stated very clearly in the OP.

Virtual hair stroking and shoulder patting aren't what MN is renowned for, but I do feel it's known for its genuine help and advice offered in a desire to assist people when needed. It's not always a bad thing. I think human instinct when faced with a problem is to go into "solving" mode and this is reflected on MN too.

I hope that made sense - it does in my head Grin

Walkingintheraindrops · 14/01/2016 08:50

Makes perfect sense purple Grin honestly the OP will be aware that some shops are more expensive than others. Who isn't? No need for posters to get so riled

EverybodyHatesATourist · 14/01/2016 09:07

OP has said a couple of times it's very hard to get trousers that fit, so it sounds unlikely that any trousers people send her will actually fit, no?

Perhaps "Do you think people are judged at work based on how they dress?" might have shown a different response if you wanted a rant/ handhold OP.

Personally I wouldn't send anyone used shoes, I can remember the leaky-shoe troll on here from last year puke

Hi namechangerwithnoclothes - we're sorry to hear about your situation Flowers

As usual, when these threads are flagged to us, we do like to advise all our members to be aware that not everyone on t'internet is who they say they are, and that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.
