To be offended

My sister told me I look like "the mother goddess" since having my baby four months ago...

I am pretty sure she meant this to be unkind! I'm actually really upset about it. I used to be a size 10, now I'm a 12-14.

AIBU to be upset about this comment and should I be thinking about dieting?

I'd be offended too

TheCatsMeow · 09/01/2016 15:22

But I'm not seeing the offensiveness of this

I assume the OP is offended because the mother goddess has saggy boobs and is fat? Pretty obvious why she is offended

My thighs were massive in that early bit. It's to do with laying down fat to help with breast feeding. You will probably find that they go back to normal in time, but it does take a bit of time.

Your body had just done an amazing thing! Cut yourself some slack.

WorraLiberty · 09/01/2016 15:29

I think perhaps I have taken it too much to heart. But I will still go on a diet. I feel enormous!

Probably best then, but only if you feel totally ready.

Your baby is so young, there's no rush surely?

As several posters have stated, the Venus of Willendorf is one random image of a mother goddess. It's like if someone said you look like a celebrity and then you getting offended because you think they're saying you look like Kim Kardashian... Maybe that's the celeb they had in mind, but it's a leap.

johnmondin81 · 09/01/2016 15:34

I doubt you really look like that. Not sure what the meaning is though behind what she said.

NotNowBono · 09/01/2016 16:05

don't feel offended. I told my sister she looked a mother goddess when she had her first baby, and I meant she looked glowing, serene, nurturing, golden, fecund... I'd be devastated if she heard 'fat' in all that.

Thanks.... I think I'm just being hypersensitive.

Thank you to the poster who linked to that article about post pregnancy bodies and those beautiful photos. My tummy looks like some of those - excess skin and stretch marks... but those women are beautiful and amazing. I just need to think of myself like that.... it's hard though!!!

I don't equate pregnant with fat. I'm sorry if that's what I implied.

I know my sister meant one of those prehistoric figurines - not necessarily a specific one, but she did mean big boobs, tummy, hips, thighs, arse...

There's a slimming world meeting round the corner from me, so I'm going to join that. I walk a fair bit with the buggy, but maybe I need to increase this too. I can't do a lot else by way of exercise because of my baby (husband does long hours so the time we have together is precious).

I guess it's still early days though in terms of post baby body and I need to not get upset - of course my body can't be like it was before the baby! Not yet, anyways...
