is in fact the best one liner, pout down and generally funny joke in the world, only closely followed by that's what he/she said?

Or am I a child?

i've always found it deeply mysogynistic!

ds came home upset because the boys at his school all started with things like 'your mum is so short she committed suicide by falling out of bed'

'but why would they say that mummy? you're tall. and you're not dead. and it doesn't really make sense'!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 07/01/2016 21:21

oooh I forgot the 'your mum's so..' cusses

my kids came back from a woodcraft camp with HUNDREDS

they were all told that it 'wasn't the Woodcraft Way' which apparently made it even more fun Hmm

sellisx · 07/01/2016 21:23

I'm in my twenties and struggle to find any of this funny. I want to join the no idea bench I have Wine

Ilovetorrentialrain · 07/01/2016 21:32

I think it's of a certain era. I remember this at school - never got tired of it. "That's you that is". I'll be explicit, I'm 41. Anyone not around that age may have just missed this.

GreenishMe · 07/01/2016 21:41

Budge up Sellisx Wine

BYOSnowman · 07/01/2016 21:46

Ilove - the 'that's you that is' isn't referring to the mum though

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/01/2016 21:48

I do know that the title of the film Y Tu Mamá También was supposed to be very insulting in the way timelytess referred to.

LegoRuinedMyFinances · 07/01/2016 21:51

I'm at home with my people on this thread.

I do the 'your mum' thing to my kids who pull this face Hmm.

I also do repetition of words and stupid stuff. I've taught the kids this stuff then I realise I can't shout at them when they are using it against each other.

Iused to say 'your mum' to DH, he finds it very childish, but I stopped after his mum died as it felt too inappropriate.

Lambbone · 07/01/2016 21:52

Actually crying with laughter at these.

I'm so mature Grin

Hobbes8 · 07/01/2016 21:54

im sure the history today line used to be "that's you, that is. That's your mum"

See also:
"You see that Peter Beardsley?"
"I'm aware of him"
"That's your girlfriend"

umiaisha · 07/01/2016 22:08

My best friend and rarely have a conversation that doesn't feature 'your mum'. We are 35 and clearly need to grow up!

I thought it was a London thing, interested to hear that it stretches throughout the UK..

Lurleene · 07/01/2016 22:12

History today

Your Mum does it for money.

Well your Mum does it for free.

GreenishMe · 07/01/2016 22:14

Cheesemaker...there's space on the no idea bench Confused

ditavonteesed · 07/01/2016 22:14

a clear split of opinions, I am also 41 so must be an era thing.

OP posts:
formerbabe · 07/01/2016 22:16

I don't find it funny. I find it common.

And my mum's dead so I find it not only common but also offensive.

It's not childish though...children can probably think of better insults than that.

teatowel · 07/01/2016 22:21

I'm another one who is clueless about what you are all talking about. I have lived for over 50 years and have never heard this!!

MrsHathaway · 07/01/2016 22:34

34

Hooting with laughter. Also wheezing and kind of squeaking.

DH and I even have a "that's what she said" jingle. The DC sing along Blush even though they have no idea what's going on.

As a teenager I used to struggle with A Level Mechanics, in a class otherwise entirely made up of people doing Physics. It was difficult to take matters seriously when I was hopelessly lost. Rigid members just about finished me off.

... TWSS.

Ham69 · 07/01/2016 22:37

Best put down I've heard;
"I saw your mum coming out of Chicken Cottage"
Grin

whitershadeofpale · 07/01/2016 22:42

Me and my bf do this all the time,I'm late 20s, she's late 30s.

We also text each other things like this Blush

to feel that your mum
whitershadeofpale · 07/01/2016 22:47

I've said on here before but one of my favourite insults I've heard came from 2 teenage boys on a bus.

Teen 1- You're a prick
Teen 2- No, you're a prick
Teen - if I'd wanted my own comeback, I'd have licked your mum's chin.

I laughed whilst be rest of the adults on the bus some I think are on this thread looked disgusted Grin

FantasticRik · 07/01/2016 22:51

Any room on the bench for me? I don't get it!

Remember 'that's you, that it...' Etc but never heard this before (am late thirties).

Figwin · 07/01/2016 22:53

I'm 31, no "that's you, that is" but I'll mum your face all day long. That's what she said.

Orda1 · 07/01/2016 22:53

EVERYONE said it when I was at school. I'm 20s.

Oh and 'your mum's got more rollovers than the lottery' but that's just mean.

Ilovetorrentialrain · 07/01/2016 22:55

Whitershade that's pretty witty. Like it.

(Some of the funniest stuff is what teenagers say when being a bit cheeky. IMO. In one of my local shops a few years ago there were some teenage lads at the checkout buying a choc bar and a can of coke. They asked if they could have home delivery. It still makes me laugh now.)

You still can't beat the 'your mum' stuff. Brilliant.
