away with work.
standard double room.
bed is too short and too narrow. and that's for me alone.

how can 2 people comfortably sleep in one? every night? at the same time?

and don't get me started on the manky decorative bed throw and cushions

Extra long king size here. Same width as a king, but a few inches longer to accomodate dh's legs. Smile

We slept in a standard double for years. No idea how that worked looking back.

FunkyPeacock · 07/01/2016 08:03

YANBU

Superking bed saved our marriage!

I hate it if we have to spare a normal double now - it just seems so ridiculously small

diddl · 07/01/2016 08:05

I think that we have a superking-two single mattresses in one frame?

I'm sure I read somewhere that a double gives each adult the same width as a cot!

To make a bed with two single duvets look tidy, you fold them in half lengthways & then lay them on the bed widthways.

We generally just leave ours on as we sleep with them though.

They do overlap, but we don't care!

cleaty · 07/01/2016 08:07

We have a King Size bed. We always end up snuggled together anyway, so a double would be fine.

Rememberallball · 07/01/2016 08:11

We have a standard double bed and have no problem sleeping snuggled up or facing away from each other without touching. There is room for a kingsize bed in here but we don't see the need for it - oh, and we've had 5 year old niece to stay and she shared with us too!!

futureme · 07/01/2016 08:11

We're wondering about buying a superking bed.

We have a double which had been fine apart from when small people come in.

However I like cuddling my husband at night and we usually sleep in contact with each other. I certainly don't want separate duvets as we want to be under together - easy access etc! Similarly if its 2 singles zipped up van you feel the middle zip. It would leave one of us uncomfortable.

fieldfare · 07/01/2016 08:12

We've got a kingsize in our bedroom and a superking in the spare room, they're both fantastic although the mattress on our bed is deeper and better quality. I always love coming home after being away just to sleep in my own bed.
Mil has a small double in her spare room, a 4"? It's bloody torture. Dh and I never sleep well when we're there, I ended up curled up on the small sofa with a blanket instead just to get some space from his snoring and fidgeting.

fieldfare · 07/01/2016 08:13

Ha! Just realised I wrote 4 inch instead of 4 foot.
4" might just fit my toes!

SlaggyIsland · 07/01/2016 08:20

Superking all the way here too. Have to sleep on standard doubles when we visit my family and it's torture.

twinkletoedelephant · 07/01/2016 08:24

We have a double standard ( a king won't fit in bedroom there is an inch spare either side of bed so we have to get out the bottom which is half blocked by drawers/shelf boxes . I hate our room. I have 3 drawers and 3 shelf boxes for all my clothes and bits. Dh uses the small child's wardrobe we had to swop rooms with dd as the room often also smells strongly of weed and smoke.

I don't sleep well....

austengirl · 07/01/2016 08:26

I would love a king size bed. DH claims they're too big, but as DC gets bigger and wants to climb in with us and there's so little room to maneuver I jabbed dh with my elbow the other night (apparently quite hard Confused) I'm hoping he'll see sense. It probably won't happen until we do the loft conversion and that's a few years off.

Outaboutnowt · 07/01/2016 08:30

Once you've had a kigsize - or super kingsize - you'll never go comfortably back to a double I reckon.

We have a double and it's fine - comfy for me DP and DS most nights. We are moving to a bigger place though and I've thought about upgrading to a King - but then we would also need new mattress new bedding - which I don't think I can afford, or be bothered with!!

whois · 07/01/2016 08:39

We have a super King. I honestly don't know how couples can sleep in a standard double for any length of time.

Go to bed, cuddle, have sex if you like, cuddle, get too hot and roll away to sleeping position. We don't sleep touching each other unless one has put an arm out or has scooted across, which is rare because having our own space to sleep in the position we want, reduced night time wake ups.

sije · 07/01/2016 08:44

Had a super king for 10 years now, but have to admit the downside is that it can be a bit lonely, I'm not even sure if he's in bed sometimes. A ridge has formed in the middle, a sort of no man's land, and we are much less cuddly together. So, not all good.

I actually sleep better in a smaller bed on holiday as there's less room to move and I don't wriggle about.

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 08:44

I feel a bit lost in a kingsize, myself. But I am only 5ft 2.

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 08:45

I have had separate duvets on holidays before and I hate it - each to their own I suppose Grin

HSMMaCM · 07/01/2016 08:45

DD has a double and whenever we are away, she moves into our SuperKing. She has said that when she moves out and gets her studio apartment, the biggest bed possible will take priority over all other furniture Grin.

Orangeanddemons · 07/01/2016 08:47

The general rule of thumb I believe, is:

Both lie down with arms behind your head. If your arms touch or are close the bed is too small.

I have a super king, and bloody love it. Hate going on holiday to find a stingy mean little double. I can't even turn over comfortably in one of those.

Anotherusername1 · 07/01/2016 08:54

Yes they are too small but my bedroom is too small for a king or superking :(

HooseRice · 07/01/2016 08:57

Super King for about 15 years here. I was the first person I know to get one. We call the space in the middle "no man's land".

cozietoesie · 07/01/2016 08:57

I have had a series of fairly authoritative cats who always slept in bed so I'm trained. I can only use 6" on the edge - a foot at most - so it doesn't make as much difference to me. Smile

ManneryTowers · 07/01/2016 09:02

We recently invested in a super King here and it's bliss. Both DH and I are hug-for-them-then-for-you people.

We do always have bedding a size bigger than our bed though as it makes it feel more cosy. Investing in/laundering Emperor size duvet and duvet cover is a downside!

Our DS will probably go straight from his toddler bed to a standard double. I can't see the point in getting him a single which he will soon grow out of!

futureme · 07/01/2016 09:02

Hmmm. I don't like the idea of not touching at night/losing the other person or separate duvets.

Maybe I shouldn't be looking for a bigger bed! I don't want to basically be sleeping in our own beds but next to each other. I love snuggling, sex, cuddling up after sex etc. We thought a bigger bed might just give us more space for sex... I don't want the unintended consequences of sleeping separately though.

TheToys · 07/01/2016 09:10

Superking here with separate duvets. I don't want to be in danger of being touched or playing duvet tug of war. And I hate the tunnel of coldness between you when you have to shlare a big duvet. I come from Scandinavia where a standard double is twice the size of a single, so a British double seems child sized to me. Absolutely tiny.

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 09:13

How big is your DS Confused
