To ask for your experiences/recommendations of breastfeeding covers?

That can be worn over a baby carrier?

I usually feed my 4-month-old in a Baby Bjorn One Carrier when out but it's hard to be discreet.

Or is it worth getting a different carrier? Any recommendations? I have a wrap too (just a stretchy piece of fabric) but it's fiddly to tie and hard to adjust for feeding.

What are you needing to cover? I don't understand. I bf ds2 in the Ergo all the time, regardless of where we are.

My baby takes ages to latch, I have to leave breast exposed and he fusses with it before latching then keeps coming off. Would feel better covering up when in close proximity to others eg crowded train, restaurants etc. With carrier I can't do 1-top-up 1-down so have to get whole boob out

I find most bf covers just draw attention to what you're doing! I had a selection of scarves - mostly those infinity scarves - that did the trick for a bit more coverage but also didn't draw attention.

Don't use it. Imagine someone putting a cover over your head whilst you're trying to eat! How uncomfortable!

I love my Bebe Au Lait cover up. It's one of those with a structured top so you can look down and see your baby. My ds sometimes has a fussy latch so I have to be able to see him and because it stands away from your body it's perfect with a baby carrier. I got mine from Jojo Maman Bebe

When I want to cover up I just use a large muslin. I do have a specific cover, not sure of brand but sounds the same as bebe au lait, but I find the muslin easier

I still use one top up one down in a carrier. Or wear a cardigan c with just the top couple of buttons done up.

I made a large jersey poncho, it was very easy, just one seam as it didn't need hemming. I prefered that to the specially designed covers which as pp said draw attention to what you are doing. I made the neck wide so I could peek down it to see what was going on. Also the jersey is thin so folds easily into your bag.

I just don't cover tbh. How old is your baby? Latching on gets easier as you get feeding established.

Another vote for Bebe au lait. I never felt I HAD to cover up, and don't always use it, but it was very handy for the times I did want a bit of discretion. Baby doesn't get hot underneath thanks to the structured collar, which also allows you to still see him, as opposed to using scarfs and muslins.

Just use a scarf . Otherwise you will draw attention to yourself .

Baby will get better at latching as he gets older

I've personally never used a cover but I'd think a cotton scarf would do the job and be less of a faff.

I just used a metre square muslin. I don't know anyone who did buy a special cover.

Watching this with interest as I've just bought a Bebe au Lait cover. DC2 due in a few weeks. It's black and I wear a lot of black so hoping it will blend in with my clothes and not draw attention. If it doesn't work I have a vast collection of scarves to call on

I just used scarves on occasions when I needed more coverage. Much more subtle.

I have a mamascarf, and while it is just a bloody triangle of cotton and thus stupidly expensive, I really really loved it, and will use it again. I found it much easier and more discrete than a normal scarf or muslin. Dc2 liked a good old look around and it helped with that too. And it rolled up tiny, as you would expect with just a bit of cotton.

Bebe au lait is great if you have a flappy baby. Scarves & muslins can get pulled off at inopportune moments, and you can't actually see what you're doing under those. With the Bebe au lait you remain covered but you can still look down and see what you're doing to get baby latched. I didn't care whether I drew attention to what I was doing - I preferred that to exposing my nipples to all and sundry! Not all babies feed discreetly.

I liked the mama scarf. It was cheap, discreet as it was in black, hands free and I could still see my DS.

I had to stop using one at about 5/6 months as he HATED being covered up though

Bebe Au Lait gets my vote too. I totally understand - I wasn't embarrassed to BF in public but definitely didn't want to be flashing my boobs! The Bebe au Lait probably does draw a bit of attention so if you want something very discreet maybe not the best option. If you don't mind people knowing you're feeding but don't want to flash your nipples this is the one for you

I didn't like the bebe au lait as felt it drew more attention. I would either lift top up - have a vest top on underneath to cover stomach; or tuck a muslin into my bra to cover the top of my breast if I was pulling top down or use a big scarf.

Thanks, I'll try the Bebe au lait, sounds ideal.

I don't care if it draws attention. I'm not shy about BF in public I just prefer to keep my boobs out of sight sometimes. Also I'd like to be able to walk around with boob out while baby gets ready to feed, he latches better with skin to skin first.

He's 4months and pulls off a lot to look round, so the milk often sprays out in a jet! hoping the cover will help with that!

With my ds, there's no such thing as a discreet feed. He flaps around like a crazed eel and makes extremely loud 'nom, nom, nom' yummy noises as he feeds. The Bebe au Lait is the most discreet part of his feeds and it also seems to focus ds a bit as there's not much to distract him under there!

Very few mothers or babies want to " flash" anything . if a baby is hungry , it's just wants fed. I find this emotive and pejorative language very unhelpful and off putting .

Flashers are people who deliberately display private parts of their bodies to intimidate and seek attention . That is NOTHING to do with 99.99% of mothers or hungry babies and it's inappropriate to suggest that it is .

If a baby pulls off suddenly , someone who is sitting right beside you and watching very closely might see a glimpse of flesh . To imply that this action by an innocent baby is somehow " flashing " is quite disturbing, IMO.

A muslin or a scarf surely. Why do you ask. Its common sense that it would be fine light weight fabric and not a heavy blanket.
