TK Maxx - I bloody love it!

Im new so sorry if this has been done before.
Am I the only one that loves this shop?
All of my girlfriends and women work colleagues hate it.
I can spot quality a mile off. And whilst some stuff is not all that I have bought some lovely things in there. Clothes, shoes, home, even Penhaligons perfume, Christy towels, a Chloe coat, Coach shoes down to 40 quid from £145.
The bags I think have gone downhill. I hate labels that show by the way. But I can spend hours in there, luckily the Lakeside Essex branch has a loo and cafe. Do you love it or loathe it?

Marni jacket, beautiful pale brown with black trim, size 12. 33 quid. Game over.

Corygal · 05/01/2016 12:38

I've never seen fakes in TK either. And as for bags, you can look up the serial number on the verification website (which a lot of designers subscribe to) to check. Designers input the numbers of the bags they sell to TK.

Versace bag, classic one, no logos, just a teeny medusa clasp, 66 quid. Still on sale for 1040 in Italy.

Shakey15000 · 05/01/2016 13:05

I used to work there also, many moons ago when there was a handful of stores Smile

One has just opened where I live now, there was a gorgeous Stella McCartney coat for £59.

hefzi · 05/01/2016 13:23

It's brilliant - I am so excited I live in a city with T K Maxx again it's the only good thing about where I live : except I now have far too many lovely leather handbags, and a very expensive skincare habit. It doesn't save me money, as I wouldn't be buying handbags for a couple of hundred quid, but it has improved my grown-up wardrobe. And I guess it does save me money on skincare, as now I very, very rarely go to Space NK as I usually have enough products on the go.

These are the only two departments I use - I don't need landfill homewares and I can never be bothered to rummage through the clothes and shoes: but bags and serums - bliss!

phoenix1973 · 05/01/2016 13:54

I love bags, shoes, boots and nails inc stuff. The toys are ok too.

The rest of the clothing is just chucked in and looks naff.

EagleRay · 05/01/2016 14:11

Here's some info on the designer stuff at TAK Maxx and how it may not be all it seems - www.channel4.com/info/press/news/c4-dispatches-unwraps-concerns-about-pricing-and-labelling-at-tk-maxx

With 'genuine' designer items, it can be really hard to know what you're buying as the item may be a more cheaply produced article, made by the brand specifically for TK Maxx, with an imagined RRP. I vaguely recall in the documentary that for one item (a suit I think), the fabric was the same, but the stitching, buttonholes, lining etc were inferior in order to produce the garment more cheaply.

I bought a Nicole Farhi dress there once, and that was definitely one of their 'made for TK Maxx' lines as the quality was dreadful (and of course the RRP totally fabricated)

starfleet · 05/01/2016 14:30

Love TK Maxx. It's my go to shop for everything clothes/homewares related.

In the last 6 months I've bought a Marc Jacobs Hillier bag for £43 (apparently it had been priced wrong!), See by Chloe bag for £40 and a Ralph Lauren tote bag for £29, a North Face winter coat £45 (that's still selling for £275) and one for DS with a fleece attached that was £50 from the menswear section.

I'm debating whether or not I go back to buy the Tocca candles I saw in there the other day.....

BabyGanoush · 05/01/2016 14:31

Eagle, that article is spot on

Frostycake · 05/01/2016 17:03

MrsHathaway No I haven't but I will now you've mentioned it. Is that the big one with all the good stuff in it? Grin

Please post the location of your branch if it has good stuff in it.

I bought a Michael Kors boat from there a few years ago but it was definitely one of thier 'made for' range as the quality was very poor. Stitching wonky, cut was off, lining didnt lie smoothly etc. bought an Aspinal bag off the website once too only to find that the logo was on the wrong way around!

Frostycake · 05/01/2016 17:04

Michael Kors coat obviously, not boat. (not made of money) Grin

Badders123 · 05/01/2016 18:02

All the clothes are so...gaudy!

nippiesweetie · 05/01/2016 19:29

Don't they get seasonal stuff from the southern hemisphere (and vice versa) or did I make that up in my own head?

trixymalixy · 05/01/2016 21:22

Another successful rummage for me today. Snow boots for my friend for £15, £100 elsewhere online. Salopettes for DS £8 and a helly Hansen thermals set for me for £8. I was really tempted by some of the bench hoodies for £15, but only bought what we actually need.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 05/01/2016 21:34

I absolutely love the home and beauty section

I buy the odd jumper there I get bored looking at the clothes

I get excited about going there Blush the ones (yes I have more than one close to me) are quite tidy

You lot made me go there today. Bad MNers.

HoHoHoandaBottleOfRum · 05/01/2016 21:54

I love it and I hate going to other shops and not having all dresses in one place, all skirts in once place.

I hate in other shops having to look round the whole bloody shop on the trail of one item.

Some items are exquisite I just don't see how you cant love it.

If I need a present I have never ever come out empty handed no matter how vaugley I know the recipient or how hard they are to buy for!

I love it!!

I dont find it hard to look for stuff at all - see above.

However I think staff training needs to be better, and staff in general and also the store in general...

HoHoHoandaBottleOfRum · 05/01/2016 21:55

guady clothes?

A pale biscuit cashmere jumper??:

EBearhug · 05/01/2016 23:12

My last purchase was a pale grey silk and cashmere cardigan/wrap. It's so soft and warm and just feels amazing. Although actually too hot unless we get some actual winter weather.

Postchildrenpregranny · 05/01/2016 23:39

Big new one opened recently near us .Very tatty and everything amess .So disappointing andI just couldnt be bothered to search through it
But I did get some Penhaligon perfume greatly reduced . Think I will stick to browsing their perfume in future

FireCrotch · 06/01/2016 01:40

I sent them an email in December to say how pleased I was with the service I received in Regent Road branch. I even made a point if naming the staff member. The fuckers haven't replied. ☹

OnlyLovers · 06/01/2016 10:53

That's disappointing, Fire. I also emailed a while ago to say how impressed I'd been with the service (lovely, funny, cheerful woman on the till). They sent a very nice reply to say they'd passed my feedback on, the manager would be 'delighted' and would 'ensure they receive the recognition they deserve for their customer service skills.'

Guess it depends who you get...!

nipersvest · 06/01/2016 11:08

badders, i've never bought anything gaudy from there, tkmaxx is the same as any shop, there will be stuff you like and stuff you don't. most i have purchased is either navy, grey or beige.

hollinhurst84 · 06/01/2016 12:25

Grey Merrell coat for £35
Anne Klein dress (fits so beautifully it's like it was made for me) £15
Musto jacket for riding £45

Generally I stick to the beauty stuff and Google prices before buying

EachandEveryone · 06/01/2016 15:04

Can we actually name the branches it would be so helpful for those of us that only have jumble sale branches on our door steps.

I've found the ones in Hull and just outside of Glasgow to be brilliant for candles perfumes and accessories. St Albans one is dire.

Any others?
