TK Maxx - I bloody love it!

Im new so sorry if this has been done before.
Am I the only one that loves this shop?
All of my girlfriends and women work colleagues hate it.
I can spot quality a mile off. And whilst some stuff is not all that I have bought some lovely things in there. Clothes, shoes, home, even Penhaligons perfume, Christy towels, a Chloe coat, Coach shoes down to 40 quid from £145.
The bags I think have gone downhill. I hate labels that show by the way. But I can spend hours in there, luckily the Lakeside Essex branch has a loo and cafe. Do you love it or loathe it?

I like it for the none brand names as I'm totally against designer labels for myself.
Sometimes it is like a jumble sale though, I agree with pp on that one.

pinkmagic1 · 04/01/2016 16:56

it all time favourite shop. I agree that it can be a bit jumble sale like but that adds to the fun imho. You never know what a good rummage may throw up. My most recent best buys include a Vans hoody for DS for £6, a beautiful fur lined convertable winter coat/gillet for DD for £14.99 and a classic black wool Michael Kors coat for myself for £67. Love it.

NotNowBono · 04/01/2016 16:57

I don't even bother with clothes because I lose the will to live rummaging through all the pretend TKMaxx brands in search of real ones. And I'm always a bit suspicious of why the real brands are there in the first place - were they mislabelled? Seconds? Wildly unflattering/unpopular non-sellers? There's never much in the shoe section in an 8, and the bras never have matching pants. I suspect all the bags of being 'made for TKMaxx' cheapies too, even the 'designer' ones.

What I love it for is kitchenware (a whole shelf of Nordicware bundts!), photo frames, make up (as long as it's a branch where customers don't open all the packets and have a good smear around - boak), salon shampoo, Beck Sondersgaard scarves, glassware, gym kit, weights/yogamats/stretchy bands, the occasional good candle, and Osprey purses. In other words, stuff I would buy for full price, but MUCH prefer buying at TKMaxx for 1/3 less.

NotNowBono · 04/01/2016 17:03

And... I've noticed quite a few QVC lines appearing in my local store (Carole Hochman, Ronni Nicole, Dennis Basso, etc) - do QVC offload surplus stock into TK Maxx, or is it bought by the US parent company and sent over here - which would seem a lot of effort, thinking about it...

PiglettWithAttitude · 04/01/2016 17:06

They have some lovely things in amongst the rubbish. Good for kitchen ware (Denby, Le Creuset), gym stuff, some coats, candles.

PiglettWithAttitude · 04/01/2016 17:11

Oh and I love their £1 bags in different designs - great for storage.

abbieanders · 04/01/2016 17:16

It can be very hit or miss, but from time to time you get something good that's also just a bit different to what's in all the other shops. I've bought several Christmas decorations there over the years which are much admired.

Eliza22 · 04/01/2016 17:16

The bags used to be really special....good prices for stuff you couldn't afford on the high street. Now, it all looks like a "bring and buy" sale. I avoid at all costs. Really scruffy.

PiratesLifeForMe · 04/01/2016 17:19

Love it!! I really do. You do have to pick & choose but I've got some great bargains and some great bits for the house that people always compliment Smile

Mothership for me too

quirkychick · 04/01/2016 17:21

I like tkmaxx, but then I like a good rummage! I haven't bought clothes there for a while, but bought some lovely candles for dcs' teachers at Christmas. I also bought some lovely cutlery too. You do need to look carefully, though. Sunglasses and scarves were particularly good.

We have 2 near us. But then I like a rooting around charity shops and vintage fairs too. Velvet chair, I am very jealous.

tootiredtoknow · 04/01/2016 17:22

My friends daughter works there. She gets 12 hours a week, is expected to be available at all times and gets 4 hours at a time. By the time she has paid her bus fair, there is very little left. She has asked for more hours but has been flatly refused. I know that has nothing to do with what you're asking but for this and this reason alone, I won't shop there any more.

I realise that a lot of employers are at it and that its a sign of the times but if we all voted with our feet, this kind of shoddy employment would end.

You are not BU OP. They have some great stuff but their company values are terrible.

cece · 04/01/2016 17:22

I love it.
My favourite shop by far.

EachandEveryone · 04/01/2016 17:25

It's amazing for posh candles and perfumes. I just bought some fantastic Paul Smith sunglasses for £40 and they are perfect on me.

dodgeballqueen · 04/01/2016 17:28

I have never bought anything in TKMaxx in spite of several attempts. YY to the poster who said it's akin to the Next sale! (Never bought anything from that either).

dodgeballqueen · 04/01/2016 17:31

It seems to be very good at diagnosing which 'type' of shopper you are - it suits those who love a rummage whereas I like to be in and out with ruthless efficiency, like a panther (purrr).

trixymalixy · 04/01/2016 17:32

I have had some amazing bargains. Mountain force ski jacket that was selling for £400 in greaves for £99, Lego salopettes for the kids £3, le creuset kids baking set for £5 rrp £35. Smartwool ski socks £7 compared to £20.

HooseRice · 04/01/2016 17:34

I got 600 thread count, hotel quality plain white bedding just before Xmas that was cheaper than Asda's basics polycotton basics range.

I look forward to bedtime.

Can't argue with that.

DieSchottin93 · 04/01/2016 17:36

I've always though TK Maxx sounds like a tampon brand Hmm Grin Grin

Love it, my shop of choice, agree with others, I can just quickly flick through my size of clothing and pick out some amazing things. Have been asked lots where I get my clothes from, and it's hopefully because I dress nicely.

I have the choice of two, one in a seaside town, and one in a " huntin', shootin', fishin' " town, the second one is far better.

If I come out in under two hours I feel cheated.

witsender · 04/01/2016 17:41

I need to be in the right frame of mind to go through the clothes, love everything else though. Our local one is very modern, clean and nice.

TheSpectreOfMorningtonCrescent · 04/01/2016 17:41

IT used to be great (before it got too popular) we used to go twice a year and kit out the whole family-it did mean a concerted shifting through the racks-but used to get fantastic stuff. Now-not so much.

catfordbetty · 04/01/2016 17:43

Visiting TKMaxx makes you realise how grossly overpriced many products are in the first place.

NoTimeLikeSnowTime · 04/01/2016 17:45

I seem to stick to a very few brands there - Grobgs, Crocs (for kids!), Brio train track random accessories. That's about it! DH buys random boxers and socks every time he walks past one. I often look at le crueset but am always parked too far away to carry it! Got DD some beautiful Hunter wellies to grow into.
Have been put off gym gear after buying running trousers that fall down after three steps...

toofunny · 04/01/2016 17:47

TKMaxx is increasingly for mugs and losers these days. Mostly they sell tat that hasn't sold elsewhere, there's much less quality than there once was, however hard you look. Also, does anyone fall for those stupid "RRP £150, price £60" labels, when it would be about £30 on eBay?
