Im new so sorry if this has been done before.
Am I the only one that loves this shop?
All of my girlfriends and women work colleagues hate it.
I can spot quality a mile off. And whilst some stuff is not all that I have bought some lovely things in there. Clothes, shoes, home, even Penhaligons perfume, Christy towels, a Chloe coat, Coach shoes down to 40 quid from £145.
The bags I think have gone downhill. I hate labels that show by the way. But I can spend hours in there, luckily the Lakeside Essex branch has a loo and cafe. Do you love it or loathe it?

I love it for fancy flavoured coffee, homewares, scented candles, beauty and shoes.
Kids clothes and toys are fab too.
I cant be arsed going through the clothing racks but the kids clothes are really nice and easier to navigate.

Notso · 04/01/2016 12:14

I do love it there and have had some amazing bargains. I mostly stick to the homeware, toys and kids clothes.
It has gone downhill a little though especially the homeware now that there is a home sense nearby. I think they send most of the good stuff there now.

DirectorFury · 04/01/2016 12:18

I love it though stick to sportswear, homewear, and shoes. My local one has had a few pair of breeches in that were £10 in clearance and I managed to sell each pair on for over £100. Lots of Musto coats for £30-£40 that are warm, waterproof, and high quality. Cheap Le Cruset! I also had a gorgeous Joules tweed that I've been complimented on every time I've worn it for less than £50.

I also managed to find a few pairs of OHs favourite work boots for £25 (Bates M9s, normally bring them over from the USA for ~£150 inc tax) so bought the whole stock in his size Blush.

DyslexicScientist · 04/01/2016 12:26

The homeware section has the most ghastly stuff.

I shit you not there was something that looked like a glass shit in there. If I had more money I'd buy the stuff for family members I don't like.

OnlyLovers · 04/01/2016 12:33

My branch doesn't do homeware, to my eternal sorrow.

I got a nice vase in another branch once and would like to see what other homewares there are, but the place looks like not just a jumble sale but a jumble sale in Mogadishu, so I can't quite get up the motivation to go there again.

jewishprincessofchigwell · 04/01/2016 12:39

I love TK Maxx and Homesense!
I don't care about people saying it is like jumble sale - I always find something which is great quality for nearly nothing...guess I have the ,,TK Maxx radarSmile . Same applies to charity shops.
Don't like their own brands, so I ignore them while there, simple.

PoppySeedRoll · 04/01/2016 12:42

Not really into clothes shopping but love the homewards and beauty. I have a thing for the handwashes and always come home with a coconut and passion fruit one or similar.

nipersvest · 04/01/2016 12:43

i adore tk maxx, my all time favourite shop.

SaggingTits · 04/01/2016 12:47

I'm not keen on it. My mum sometimes insists we have a 'quick look' if we pass one. She then takes anywhere up to an hour to rummage through everything while I stand there twitching and feeling murderous.

cantgonofurther · 04/01/2016 13:03

only like it for beauty stuff.

SheHasAWildHeart · 04/01/2016 13:19

The clothes always look like they've bee worn, washed and hug up without any ironing.

Stillunexpected · 04/01/2016 13:31

Two hours??? Who has time to spend two hours rummaging in one shop these days? In two hours, I would expect to get through a whole list of errands/shopping/rummaging in our nearest town. TK Maxx gets 10 mins at the end!

Katinkka · 04/01/2016 13:32

I love it! Not for clothes though, although maybe I would if I was slimmer. I lovehomewares the best.

SheHasAWildHeart · 04/01/2016 13:59

Is HomeSense owned by TK Maxx?

Hygge · 04/01/2016 14:07

I love TK Maxx.

Not for clothes, because they only sell clothes for thinner people than me. But I love the homewares and sometimes the soaps and smellies bit.

It's always good for gifts I think, especially glass bowls and vases. When DS's teacher left the school last year I found her a beautiful blue and silver bowl there, and I have an Aunt who is difficult to buy for, who always seems very keen on anything I've managed to find for her from there.

We are lucky because we live near a nice one. In neighbouring towns they have rubbish ones that mostly sell broken stuff. Ours must get the best bits and send the broken tat on to the others.

We're not too far away from a Home Sense either, and they are both owned by the same company I think SheHas.

thegiddylimit · 04/01/2016 14:32

We have a nice one that is clean, spacious and well organised. I love the beauty section, always buy nice quality soap (e.g. Arran Aromatics) there. Homewares section is good for basics (knives etc) and I liked the baby section when the kids were smaller, I bought all the kid's Grobags there for half price so can't complain. I have bought clothes there but it's very hit and miss if you find anything, I think it needs a regular but short visit to catch the good stuff. Quite like things being arranged by size TBH.

ChoclolateOrange · 04/01/2016 14:38

I used to LOVE it, but don't any more. I moved to the other end of the country and now my present city centre one is awful. Perhaps it just depends where you live?

I still go in optimistically , but I never buy. I always got my handbags, purses, and bedding there. I also got teenage DS some brilliant clothes, and me great sports gear. Sad

FlatOnTheHill · 04/01/2016 14:54

I think Homesense is owned by T K Maxx.
I love Homesense. Such lovely things. And they are not crap either. I have my radar on full alert when in there too. Bought a beautiful velvet chair recently.

You have to really want to shop there, but prepare to be rewarded for your tenacity Grin.

I love it for exercise gear, amazing merino and cashmere jumpers, lovely toiletries and fabulous homewares.

EBearhug · 04/01/2016 15:01

I've had some good clothes finds over the the years. Never even looked at home wares, I don't think.

cressetmama · 04/01/2016 15:12

Sometimes I leave empty handed; sometimes not. I don't go there with a fixed notion that I need x, but I am open to what I find when I am in the mood. Last time I went in, the homewares were good so I replaced two bath sheets. I also spotted rather swanky Frette bedlinen, sadly not in a size of any use to me.

Tenacity is often rewarded as Potterwolfie says.

MsAlbertine · 04/01/2016 16:15

Orla Kiely bedding and towels in my local one today.

Agree re the bags - all a bit rubbish these days.

Kitchenware heaven for me though and Neom smellies

Hygge · 04/01/2016 16:31

My DH has just sent me a message to say he is in TK Maxx right now.

Just to annoy me, because I'm not. Angry Envy Grin

Hygge · 04/01/2016 16:34

I agree about the bags as well.

I bought a beautiful grey bag in there once, only had it about five weeks, and the stitching around the handles tore really badly. I didn't put that much in it it either, keys, purse, phone, and kindle.

OnlyLovers · 04/01/2016 16:46

Not for clothes, because they only sell clothes for thinner people than me.

I tend to find the opposite. Sometimes they'll have something really special, but only in a size 18 or 20 or XXL.

Still, as others have said, it's about tenacity and regular visits. You WILL be rewarded eventually.

Which is why it's so addictive...
