Fidgeting

Not sure if it's me being critical/sensitive or DH but the thing is that if we're sitting down to watch TV he will constantly be fidgeting. It might be rolling up a sweet wrapper, chewing his nails, rubbing a label on a bottle of beer. The other evening he had his leg up and was twirling the hair on it. We have a sofa each and he isn't in my direct line of vision if I'm looking at the tv but all this is going on in my peripheral line of vision. Getting tired of asking him to stop. It's just not very relaxing being in the room and trying to concentrate on what's happening on the screen.
Anyone else live with a fidgeter or is one?

I am one. Thankfully the husband has a high tolerance to it or he may have throttled me by now I'm a leg jiggler.

DH comes from a family of fidgeters. He is not allowed to do it when there are other people in the room It's only one thing he does - for some weird reason he repeatedly scratches the fabric of his trousers with his fingernails. Not because there is an itch there. Actually not for any reason. You have to take a tough line with it I'm afraid!

I live with a fidgeter. He is currently sitting on a different sofa, waving one knee from side to side. Just in my peripheral vision. He is a clean freak though, so no fidgeting with labels etc.

This is better than him fidgeting in bed. Over 15 years, I have been rubbed, scratched, stroked, rocked, kneaded to death. Although I guess this is less fidgeting and more using me as a blankie!

Since starting this post, he has switched to waggling his toes up and down.

Basically, I just need to keep moving but I don't know why.

I've never met a toe waggler. I didn't even know that was an option. Why would anyone do that?

My DH is a foot jiggler/toe tapper (he is currently tapping his hand on his thigh and jiggling his foot) and it drives me insane!!!

My husband says it's soothing. Repetitive motion = relaxation.

I am a real fidgeter. I find it uncomfortable to sit in the same position for more than about 10 mins so I'm constantly changing positions. Drives DP and the dog crazy. We only have room for one sofa in the living room too so that makes things worse.

DP fidgets all the time, usually accompanied by noise: flicking the clasp on his phone cover, tapping the radiator etc. Drives me round the bend. He also paces when he's bored, wearing his stupid fucking slippers that make him sound like a shod horse. I've started meditating. It doesn't help.

I fidget, I just can't sit still. I either play with my hair, my phone, move around on the sofa, suck my thumb, bite my nails or something. Apparently I've always been the same. I can't sit in one position for longer than a few minutes either, it drives DP and the cat nuts!

God, fidgeting drives me mad. Can't stand it when I'm in a cafe and there's someone juggling their leg in my eye line or just off the the side. I have sometimes moved my chair (sometimes even the table) to position myself to avoid this. I used to think it was mainly men that did the leg jiggling thing but have recently noticed more women doing it. It should be illegal. Just saying.

Someone's doing it now!!! He may have to be punched.

I probably wouldn't notice myself doing it if it wasn't for this thread.

Sorry, but I'm a massive fidget. I jiggle my led/foot/toes etc. I even had a colleage grab hold of my hand once and tell me to calm down as I was doing it in a staff meeting. I don't think about it, I just do it. I often even jiggle one bum cheek or the other (or both) as a less 'visible' (to others) way of still fidgeting.

If I have something in my hands I fold it/roll it/draw on it. And if I go for a walk I pull a leaf off a tree (not in someone's garden) and fold it as I walk.

I must be really annoying!

I'm a terrible fidget. DH often has to ask me to keep my 'crazy feet' still in bed.

I'm a fidget in so far as I can't just sit still and watch TV, I have to be fiddling with something so usually sit and knit or crochet.

DH is a massive bloody fidget and drives me insane. His biggest crime is to shove his feet between the sofa cushions then flick his toes. It jiggles the sofa cushions and makes the most annoying noise. He fidgets and jerks around in bed as well. To be honest, I don't know how I haven't killed him yet. I'm sure no court would convict me

DD2 is a huge fidget too. School gave her a special fiddle stick that she can hold under her desk and fidget with so no one else can see her doing it

My XH was like this. It was very irritating.

You CAN control fidgeting! There's no excuse for it. It's rude, irritating and makes you come across as shifty/nervous/hyped up on caffeine. It's a bad habit, something within conscious control.

It's distracting and stressful sitting next to someone who jiggles, taps fingers or wriggles around constantly. Surely if you're aware you're doing it you learn to control it around other people?

Having said that, I do fidget when I'm alone. I just wouldn't subject others to it, it's really bad manners.

I do this. It's my one form of exercise I would balloon sans the jiggling.

Give him something to fidget with. Like they do in primary - some blue tack or a Rubiks cube or something...

It's a bad habit, something within conscious control.

It can actually be quite a good habit if you are mostly sedentary as it keeps your muscles active and burns a few calories. I have trained myself to fidget in certain situations as it stops my legs cramping and keeps me from sitting too rigidly in one position which I do when engrossed in my work otherwise.

My child, he has ADHD though. He also had plenty of fidget toys!

To have conscious control over it, you have to realise you are doing it in the first place!
